Default PayPal Instant Payment Notification Warning

Good morning, Zenners ... Not sure what's going on here, got an email this morning with that title from [email protected] telling me this:

Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing:

    https://www.creektree.net/index.php?...eckout_process

If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information. If this problem continues, IPNs may be disabled for your account.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.

The email seemed in the proper format, and doesn't specifically say to click on the URL.

The PayPal Live Status doesn't show any problems.

I tried to call PayPal, finally got thru to someone after holding for a long time, but she "had to check something" and disconnected me.

I tried a test case on one of the shops and it seemed to work fine, order was placed and emails were delivered, checkout_success was accomplished.

Running ZC 1.3.7, running IPN only, not Paypal Express.

Before trying to call PayPal again, thought I'd check here and see if anyone knows what it's for, any input gratefully accepted.

PayPal's system will send those kinds of emails if it encounters failures when attempting to send IPN updates of transactions to your store. If the problems continue, they will turn off IPN notices in your account profile. If that happens, you'll have to turn them on again.

When they first started doing that a couple months ago, many people got the notices and the switch got flipped off. I don't know whether they fixed the bugs in the process. Keep an eye on it just in case.

You should still report it so that they know you're getting the notices even though the transactions are working properly. (Be sure to confirm that you *are* actually getting IPN updates before making those claims.)

    Update:
Finally got through to someone at PayPal, who said he checked our account and could find nothing that indicated we should have received the email, and says it must have been sent "in error".
Checked our IPN switch in our profile, and it shows "on".
Guess there's nothing more to do except "keep and eye on it".
Thanks again for the info, Dr. Byte.

Yeah, that's the same thing I saw them do last time. You'll likely get another similar email in a couple days warning you that if it's not fixed in a certain time they'll turn it off ... and they will.
Just watch for it, fix it when it happens, and call and tell them about it. If they don't get regular reminders of the problems, they don't prioritize it with enough importance.
Better yet, log the problem in their ticket system ... esp since they told you you shouldn't have gotten the email. http://www.paypal.com/mts
