Default forcing priority mail not a problem before

We have never had this problem until today and we've been running our store a while. System is allowing customer to choose parcel post, but then changing it to priority every time. It is US destination and priority mail is valid to the ship to areas. We use USPS ship method.

since it has been working fine for months and suddenly stopped, and no one has made any changes in the zen site, not sure what to do.

Assuming you're using v1.3.7.1 or older, do you have the USPS patch update installed?

I will read the thread on the patch.

I'm kind of afraid to update or install any patches because:

This was my first zen site, and I was not very familiar with how to set it up so that when I updated it did not overwrite all of my customizations. Since then I've studied and on my more recent sites have set up custom templates etc. I'm not sure where I am on that issue on this first site.

So before I can update or install the patch, I'm assuming I need to backup my files and such and read up on that TOO, so I don't lose my site customizations.

    Any tips appreciated.

in your zc admin go to modules shipping and write down all the settings in usps,

now use the uninstall button at the top of the right column,

upload the NEW usps file from the patch to
    includes/modules/shipping/
this will totally overwrite the file thats there,

now go back into your ac admin
hit the install button at the top of right column and fill in your information

now your usps will work right, the issue isnt with your store no one did anything to it,
the issue is with usps changing things without notifying anyone....

Ok Merlin, thanks. I am assuming that the button in my admin that says remove is the same button you are referring to as uninstall. In other words, I'm removing my current usps setup, installing the patch, and then reinstalling my usps setup.

I just like to be sure and careful.

and this won't overwrite any of my other zen files or do an overall update on me right?
