    Default Installing Test Website

I am trying to install a test website on the same server as my live website. I'm installing the test website in the folder test so when you go to http://www.asseenontvretailstore.com/test it will take you to the test website.

I have followed the instructions located here to move my website to another server. I thought that it was close enough and it should work. However whenever I go to http://www.asseenontvretailstore/test I get redirected to http://www.asseenontvretailstore.com.

Any idea's on how to fix this?
    Ben

The test URL will have to use your IP since you have the domain on a different server.

I don't fully understand your explanation, but it works. Thank you.

I guess I was wrong. It's still not fully working. None of my changes in the test area have any effect.

First thing I changed was I tried to install a new module, but when I went to load my webpage the module wasn't there. It's not that it didn't install correctly it just wasn't installed at all.

Second, I changed my main page to say something along the lines of this is a test page don't buy from this store. When I went to reload the test page the live main page was showing.

All of this is telling me that it is using all of the files from the live webpage not the test webpage. I checked both admin/includes/configure.php and includes/configure.php and they both say that it's installed on test.

    Any ideas?

You have to upload your changed files to the test server, not the "live" server.

    I did.

When I go to the admin area on the test "server" and then go to tools, define page editor, then bring up define_main_page.php this file contains all of my changes.

However when I go to http://74.220.208.253/test/ it still displays the live "server" version of the main page.

Note that the live "server" still displays the live main page as well. Which is a good thing.

okay I fixed the problem. I just created a subdomain called test, then pointed that to public_html/test.
