Credit Card Module Strange behavior.... using Edit Orders module

A client contacted us regarding some inconsistent displays of the credit card number in his back end: sometimes, it displays 5424 xxxx xxxx xxxx 1234, sometimes it displays (last4)1234.

We don't understand how this happens. Appears to be random, and the (last 4 situation is particularly annoying, since only the middle digits are sent to the admin: he cannot see the fist four.

Any feedback on this (besides "don't use this module it's not safe") would be greatly appreciated.)

The same thing is happening to me as well. I do not know where the first 4 digits go to. Is there someplace that stores this information? It is very frustrating and embarassing to have to call the customer up and ask for their information again.

it looks like the culprit is the EDIT ORDER module. If an order is viewed in that mode and an update made, the CC number is truncated and (last 4) is inserted and the 4 digits are lost for ever. Better charge the card BEFORE editing the order.

I altered the code to remove this feature that does not make sense to me...

Thanks for that information. I did click on edit to change the taxes (yet another thing that occasionally messes up) before I wrote down the number.
