Default Sub Categories in Center Column Home Pg

I am looking for a way to show my Sub Categories in the center column on my home page. I know I can show the Main Top Categories via the "Categories - Always Show On Main Page" option, but that's not quite what i'm looking for.
I have searched the forumns to no avail.
I am using Zencart 1.3.7 with MySQL 5.
I am thinking a work around would be to not have sub categories and put everything at the top, but don't really want to go that route.

Thanks for any input on this

I'm not sure if I have asked a really dumb question, or if there simply just aren't any answers to this.

Did you happen to figure this one out?

I'm trying to do the same thing, and having no luck.

I don't run categories in the sidebox, only in the category tabs area. So I want the subcategories to show up in the center column when someone clicks the main category.

Anyone have any tips? I'm sure I'm just missing something simple, but it's got me stumped.

Leehow, your request as worded would not be a good idea; if you just show the subcategories in the center, there will be no way to associate them with a top cat and having top cats becomes irrelevant at best. You would need to show a complete category tree with subcats grouped under top cats. I think it is yellow1912 who has a mod in his sig to show all categories and products on one page; this could be modified to not show the products.

Valtx, what you want appears to be different, and should be default behavior. When a category is clicked, its subcats should show in a grid in the center. How is your site not doing this, or are you wanting something else? It doesn't make sense to me to have all categories' subcats show up when you click one of the categories...

    gjh42 -

You're right, I was looking for something different than the original poster. After sorting through so many threads trying to find the answer, I confused my question with his.

Anyway, I figured out my problem. Thanks for your post; I think it forced me to comb through everything once again.

It appears that at some point during the site design process, I had commented out the subcategory grid in "tpl_index_categories.php". Probably did it during my design process to just get it out of the way for a bit, and then forgot what I did. - the consequence of spending way too many months on a project that has way too many delays.

So it's back. Now I just have to redesign it.

Thanks for your response. I appreciate your time.
