homepage sidebox banner

I need to display a banner in the left sidebox on the homepage and a different banner in the same position on all other pages.

I think I need to make a change in my tpl_main_page.php, but the banner references are confusing to me between that file and the banner manager.... Help......

OK, that is helpful...but I am still stumped since I need one banner to show up on the homepage and a different one to show up on all other pages..is that possible?
