Is it possible to use per item shipping to designate the shipping price for certain items and use table rate for all other items (that don't have a specific per item shipping price)?
Thanks.

I'm looking for the same thing. Most of the items in the store are based on the table rate, but the client has a few large items that require separate shipping...so I want the cart to calculate the shipping for all the regular items PLUS the shipping for the special items.
I look forward to any support!
Thanks,
Leah
Main problem is the mixed order ...
You could customize the table rates to check for various products and add to the price ...
But this could get complicated depending on how your products are setup ...

Hi Linda,
Thanks for the reply.
Is there a way to set it up so that customers are prevented from mixing the two types of orders (ie - they cannot add both a table rate shipping item and a special rate shipping item to the same order)? That would work okay on my end, since they'll ship separately anyway, they'll just come through as separate orders.
How would I customize the table rates to check for various products? That's a new concept for me.
Thanks so much for your help!
Leah
Same test can tell you if any of the products flagged in some manner are in the cart and you can prevent checkout ...
Either way you are into some custom coding here ... you need to decide which way works best for you and then write it or have it written for you ...

How would one go about custom coding? I of course, have no idea how to write codes but someone does. How would I find someone who can?

If you look at the shopping_cart.php class, there is a function in there to identify what is in the cart ...
function get_quantity($products_id)
You could look for the products_id and how many are in the cart ... and test for the 3 to add on to the shipping cost ...
