Screen Resolution Solution?

I want my webpage to have a fixed width.
I don't exactly know what to call it, but the original classic green template had the sides of the pages fixed.

I installed a new template but it is stretched out to fit the whole screen

I just wanna know where I can change this (in the stylesheet??) so that i can "fix" the width of the webpage (so that it will look the same from all different monitors with different settings.

Some custom templates are different, but the stock template can be controlled by changing the
#mainWrapper {width: xxx;)
between a fixed number (like 750px or 96em) and a percent (like 95%).
