    Default Problems with XAMPP installation

    Hi there:

I am setting up my own Windows server.

I tried to install Xamp-win32-1.6.6.a without success.
    Problems:
    Problem I:
I unistalled XAMPP 1.6.6.a and I cannot get rid of Mercury mail or MSQL form that newr version.
I uninstalled because I have been suggested that an older XAMPP version will work better.
Does anybody know how can I get rid of those files without damaging my computer system?

    Problem II:
When i was in the process of installation (even when installing an older version) I got the following messages:
"Ports 80 or 443 already in use Install Apache 2.2 service failed"
"Port 3306 already in use Install My SQL service failed"

I have been told I need to change the Mercury mail settings to use por 85 and not port 80 (since Mercury and Apache use both Port 80)
Can anybody tell me how can I make it? From where can I tell a program to stop using a port and use another one?

Hope somebody can help me with these two problems
    Thanks,
    Marlake

    My reply is the same
    Try http://apache2triad.net
XAMP is usually decent, but I've never had problem with apache2triad... also you should remove all other standalone stuff like mercury and mysql. apache2triad (and xampp) have their own stuff so you don't need those other things (as you see now they will conflict)

I recommend using the apache2triad version that uses php5

Ok: I will follow your advice.
But I have tried to remove the remaining of XAMPP files (Mercury and MySQL) and I cannot get rid of them. A message is telling that the files may be in use by another program (??)
    Any suggestion??

    THanks

Reboot PC.. if they are still running you can goto Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services

find the service (Mercury or XAmp Mercury, etc) and stop the service. Also find the executable file for that service. Check Task Manager to see if that process is running. If it is, kill it. then try the uninstall.

    Hi:

I got rid of the remaining of the XAMPP files thanks!!

Then I installed the apache2triad . Everything was going well. They asked me for a password and I gave it.
Now to complete the installation a new black window has shown up and is asking me for "Enter my password." But I am unable to type it!! I cannot write anything on that black window...a cursor is blinking but it is not allowing me to write anything.

    What I have done wrong!!

    Thanks,
    Marlake

It's a simple command window. You should have no problem typing in it.

    Hi:
I do know this is a simple command window. I have a lot of experience typing, but this window is not allowing me to type in.
    Any ideas?
    Should I reinstall again?
    Thanks
    Maritza
