Have you read the README files that accompany the package?

yes, but we cannot get passed setting the positions after we have renamed the dist-config.php to config.php

I usually change permissions using the CHMOD option in my FTP client.

If you can't do that, you can usually change them with the file manager in your host's control panel.

    Hi

I'm the friend who's trying to help :)

I uploaded the whole caboodle using filezilla, and late last night i managed to change the names and permissions of dist_config to config and 777 (the first two in the instructions).

This morning when I got up the permissions were back to where I started.

I managed it through the filezilla, as the hosting server thingy wouldn't allow me to do it (something about being only able to change permissions through a Unix Server, not windows).

Why have the permissions gone back to as they were? And how come it won't let me change them again?

I'm getting bald spots where I'm tearing my hair out now...

Your web host may not allow CHMOD via FTP.

You must therefore set your permissions using C-PAnel, or ask your host to set them.

(Aha,, your on a windows box - your host will have to set perms for you)

is there any specific reason why you're hosting on a windows box? You will find that you will need a lot of input from your host down the line (unless you get shell access to the box).

Having to involve your host all the time may present challenges - and problems if they don't have zencart knowledge.
