    Default Footer Link's The Manual and ME!

    Me again, greetings. I've ordered the book, once arrived do I still have to have the zen cart link?

    Just a question, no biggie if so. I am proud of the wares I use, however the more "Professional Sites" do not have the powered by on them.

    In "net user terms" it is a sign of cheap, inexperienced webmaster; having to get help else where ppffsstt ,and that of a "young" site. However, we are in this for ONE reason. $ And if the "price" I pay to use this fine software; best I've used in 10 years, then so be it.

    I did try to take it out to see what it looked like. However, that made the board inoperable.

    I had about 30 questions I was searching the forum for, so I figured I'd get the book. It DID say it was for an older version though on check out, I am sure it'll do fine.

    You can remove the "Powered by Zen Cart" link if you want to, regardless of whether you buy the book or not.

    You're not "allowed" to change it to "Powered by Someone Else". Also, you won't be able to list your site in the Showcase for this site.

    Yes, Steven300's correct... you aren't obliged to have this in your footer, but you also can't "pass off" yourselves as the one with the "power" !

    Anyway, to remove it

    Find the following file:-

    includes\languages\english.php

    (You will see two FOLDERS above this file - one called CLASSIC, and one called ENGLISH - and if you installed a custom template, a folder for that too)

    Open this file for editing in a PLAIN TEXT editor (such as notepad++)

    Near the top of the code is:-

    PHP Code:
      define('FOOTER_TEXT_BODY''Copyright &copy; ' date('Y') . ' <a href="http://www.zen-cart.com" target="_blank">Zen Cart</a>. Powered by <a href="http://www.zen-cart.com" target="_blank">Zen Cart</a>');
    If you want ALL of it removed, then delete everything in red

    define('FOOTER_TEXT_BODY', 'Copyright &copy; ' . date('Y') . ' <a href="http://www.zen-cart.com" target="_blank">Zen Cart</a>. Powered by <a href="http://www.zen-cart.com" target="_blank">Zen Cart</a>');

    so THIS is left behind:-

    define('FOOTER_TEXT_BODY', '');

    where the two '' (single quotes) are left intact.

    Save the file and FTP it back to:-

    includes\languages\classic\english.php

    If you are using another custom template, then change \classic\ to the name of your custom template.

    No, no, no. I was; nor would I, put "me" as the Powered By. I bought the book for the information, not to brag or otherwise be rewarded. I was asking if I was violating copywrite is all.

    However, I was editing this code in english.php

    Code:
    define('FOOTER_TEXT_BODY', 'Copyright &copy; 2008 The Rhino Files.Com <br />Design by: <a href="http://www.ideasphotoprints.com" target="_blank">IDEAS</a> & Powered by <a href="http://www.zen-cart.com" target="_blank">Zen Cart</a>');
    I removed
    Code:
    Design by: <a href="http://www.ideasphotoprints.com" target="_blank">IDEAS</a> & Powered by <a href="http://www.zen-cart.com" target="_blank">Zen Cart</a>'
    And the store "blank Paged" me. as in a blank white page. I put it back, and all is kewl. Thought maybe a sub routine checked for the presence of the "zen.com" link to let it activate.

    I have used such forum/store wares before that would disable themselves if the copywrite was removed. So, I was asking if I could get sued.

    p.s. Sophy, if you read this, design is spelled wrong, it's spelled desing. Just a letting ya know.

    target="_blank">Zen Cart</a>');

    I was going one comma past. Anyhoo, no biggie, I left the footer in tact for now. When I get big as Best Buy Online, the I suppose I will take it out. HA!!!!!!

    Still, I am looking forward to the book. I thought it was a digital download, however it seems the order needs "approval"..

    Good practice with PayPal BTW guys/gals. 'Cause people can charge back after they get the goods. had it happen to a bud of mine in the US for about 3 grand of camera PDF manuals. People can be nasty.

    I did warn you about the single quotes...

    The tiniest thing left off (a single quote), can render a blank screen... be careful when editing code!

    I think that's a good idea for all of us. Seems a small enough 'price' to pay for software this good.

    Agreed. I am a paid member of my forum softwares site, however I still have their stamp at the bottom. I've no boggle with letting people know what I use. Hell, if they are worth anything they can tell by the layout what software you use.

    There are several BIG names that use wares that I do, however they remove the stamp in the footer. Not saying any names, but his initials are "Bill Gates the Pirate of Silicone Valley". Let's just say that the aspx forum that M$ uses, is not written my M$. Licensed by, hacked by, modified by, but not written by.

    Anyrate, the book is here, and I finished my Canada tax tables; night-bleeping-mare, so I am off to conquer the world. Or at least slap it around a tad.

    I often bless the devs for writing this in PHP as it forces good discipline when tinkering with code - and, as I said, the tiniest error can result in a blank screen... It kinda MAKES you do it properly!
