Download Sales not processing

HI There
I have this module installed and on physical goods it works fine:
1) it goes through paypal, returns me to the site and says thanks and gives an order number
2) the order appears in Admin>customers>orders>
3) the order appears in admin>customers>paypalIPN

BUT

for downloadable products its not working

1) it sends a user to PAYPAL after processing stage 2, then returns the user back to stage 2, then stage 3 then says thanks for the order
2) it gives an order number - but on the payer side and the admin side no payment is shown as being received (either manually by logging into paypal) OR through admin>customers>paypalIPN

This is ONLY for downloadable products, so any idea kind people on how i could fix this?

HI sorry just to add:
my problem is the same as the one detailed here:

but it ONLY makes them go through things twice with a "download" not a physical product. If its a download it doesn't even take the payment properly! With a physical product it takes the payment and records the information correctly through the admin
