    Ok am stuck. How do I change the following files to read "writable"?

    "File and Folder Permissions
    In order for the installer to store the setup information you provide in the following pages, the configure.php files shown below need to be "writable".

    * includes/configure.php = Writeable
    * admin/includes/configure.php = Writeable

    In order for many Zen Cart™ administrative and day-to-day functions to work properly, You need to mark several files/folders "Writeable". The following is a list of folders which need to be "read-write", along with recommended CHMOD settings. Please correct these settings before continuing installation. "

    To change file permissions in Mac OS X, you can use the following steps if you are not familiar with Unix commands:

    1. Right-click on the desired file and a context menu will appear.
    2. Select Get Info from the context menu and a dialog window opens.
    3. Expand the Ownership & Permissions tab in the dialog window and you will be able to change the permissions of the file.

    Thank you so much for your help, I didn't know the nuances of file info but I'm learning fast.

    Stuck again.

    How do I set up the MYSQL database? The warning I received was

    Database does not exist
    Unknown database 'zencart'

    I've tried accessing the database info as per Dr. Byte's instructions but I seem to have passed that part of the installation as I can't access the info on the MAMP terminal, unless I'm missing something.

    Retrace steps 6 - 9 from DrByte's instructions if you have not done so.

    During installation, you most probably left the database name as the default zencart while DrByte's instructions mentioned creating the database name as zencart138 in step 9.

    Change the database name during Zen Cart installation according to what you have previously entered in phpMyAdmin and that particular error message should disappear.

    I'm almost there!! I set up the "www.example.com" address and changed the Apache Server Name from Localhost.80 to www.example.com:80.

    I type in www.example.com and a screen comes up that says Index of/ and underneath the Zencart/ folder. When I click on that, Zen cart comes up on the screen.

    Is there any way to eliminate the Index of/ screen and go directly to Zencart typing in www.example.com or do I have to put in www.example.com/zencart/

    Please help.

    Just move the contents of your current "/zencart" folder one level up to your Apache's document root (i.e. the IndexOf "/" directory you currently see).

    After that, change both your configure.php files to reflect the new directory structure. You might also need to adjust the path to your session directory under Configuration > Sessions in your Admin Console depending on how you configured sessions to be stored when you installed your Zen Cart.

    Restart your servers and verify the change.

    I can't think of any reason why installing XAMPP would affect your ability to connect to your mail server.

    XAMPP normally uses Ports 80 and 443, whilst POP3 uses Port 25 or 26 and STMP normally uses 110 or a Port Number close to that.
