Where is the install??????

Okay, I am trying to have patience.............Here is the scoop.

I bought the "book" on Zen Cart.

It refers to XP I run 2000.
It refers to XAMPP 1.4.16 only version will work.....XAMPP 1.6.6a only version I can find.

I installed anyway and was rocking along until I tried to install Zen. I can not find the ZC_install file anywhere.

Could someone please give me some direction.

zc_install is a folder, contained in the Zen Cart distribution zip file.
When you unzip it, be sure to retain the folder structure.

I've not had any problems using the newer versions of XAMPP.
There may be a few differences in terms of exact content, but the concepts will be unchanged.

You could always skip the "local server" setup , and do all the setup on a live website on a public webserver -- this would be a more real-world experience.
The local-server concept was used in the book just for convenience.
In reality, the actual live use of Zen Cart should never run on XAMPP ... for the security reasons mentioned in the book and on the XAMPP website.

XAMPP 1.4.16 should work on Win2K. It can be found on this SourceForge page.
Just scroll down the page and look for 1.4.16.

Okay, I am going to take your advice. Scrap the book for the install part of it. Please let me know if these steps are correct.

1. Download ZenCart to my system.
2. Unzip files to ZenCart folder
3. Import Folder to my publishing software.
4. Publish to my server
5. Go to IE and type in www.(my site).com/zencar/zc_install
6. Follow onscreen directions from there?

My server is windows based and has all the requirements other than Apache which I understand is not required if I install live. Is that right as well.

The steps you listed are about right.

Alternatively, you can skip step 3 and just use an FTP client to upload the uncompressed Zen Cart files to your server's document root directory.

For me, personally, I skip steps 2 and 3 and just upload the entire Zen Cart ZIP file to the server and then perform the unzip on the server via CPanel's File Manager. This method reduces the likelihood of file corruption while the files are being uploaded. However, my method depends on the said File Manager software being present for your hosting plan.
