Local Option Sales Tax

How does Zencart allow for handling local option sales tax? I have to charge tax in about 4 states and have the government provided list of zip codes with tax. How can I have Zencart use these percentages? Right now I end up being a percentage off in, some cases, from the local option sales tax.

I'm having difficulty getting it to work. I have imported all the zip codes we charge for (4 states) but don't see it showing up on the bill for the purchases. My zip code is not on the local option sales tax list so I have a blank entry. How exactly does this get handled? Is there a readymade source to get this data from and import it for 4 states so I don't have to manually updated everything? It would save a lot of time and for an average user, this work is tedious considering tons of people have to do it--manipulate the government provided data to work with this mod (Zencart)...etc.

Doesn't everyone have to be aware of local option sales tax? Aren't you required to pay it? Or do businesses just write off the extra percent or two?

Any info and background would be appreciated. I'm trying to understand the issue here.

The local sales tax is not showing up anywhere. Any suggestions?

It appears to be showing up on the order total screen but it does not fill in as the Sub-Total, Shipping, and Total lines do. It is inconsistent. Is there a way to have it match as it should?

I have a list of zip codes but some states where all not listed or simply every zip code gets the same tax rate. How do I handle this?
