Default Can't get XAMPP Apache and Mysql to run

I have installed XAMPP for windows on my local office computer. Firewall is enabled BUT it allows XAMPP to run and have opened up the ports necessary for Apache, MySQL and mail servers to run (80,3306,25,110)

When I open the control panel. Only Filezilla is working, all the rest when I click on it it says busy. I don't have any old copies of Mysql or Apache.

When I click on port checking, it shows that the ports are free.

Our office has a main server but I didnot install it there. I have installed it in my own computer c:\.

Anybody has any idea how to fix this? Help is much appreciated THanks!

Which version of XAMPP are you using and what directory did you install XAMPP into?

Yes I am. I wanted to install it in our office c drive so that we can experiment on it before moving the files to a live site.

I seem to think that you can't install it on a computer that has some network system becuase I was able to successfully install it on my home computer which is stand alone. Is that correct?

You would have to ask your sys admin about this as it does take control of a few ports

    1. If you have Skype installed then be aware that Skype uses Port 80, unless you set it not to use that port.

    2. If this is a Windows PC then is it using XP Pro? If it is then Windows (IIS) Server will be pre-installed and you'll either need to get rid of it or else configure XAMPP to use a different port (8080).

    3. Have you set MySQL and Apache to run as services on the PC (meaning they'll start automatically when the PC is booted)? You do this from the apache and myql folders by clicking on the relevant _installservice.bat file.

Try disabling the default Windows firewall besides your third-party firewall and see if your Apache/MySQL is able to start properly. This will make sure its not the firewall (or some misconfiguration) that is causing the problem.

As a security measure, you might want to temporarily disconnect your network cable while your antivirus and firewalls are disabled.

You might also ask your office tech support staff, esp since they may have an idea of what's special about your office computer vs your home computer as it relates to what you're trying to do.

Default Re: Can't get XAMPP Apache and Mysql to run [SOLVED]

Thank you guys for all your advice. I found my answer on a forum for Apache Forum. Thread is here in case someone else has the same installation problems like me:

    http://www.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?t=29581

Essentially, these are the steps I took before it started to run:

    1. Disconnect from the network server
    2. Disable AVGFree
    3. Do what the lady at the forum said:

so here is a quick work around that may help you out... 1.. make sure that the services for all the apps are un-installed by de-selecting them using the controller. 2...rename your xampp folder to say xampp1 and run the setup.bat in the folder... this should trigger a screen with the 'do you want to do this' and tell it to go ahead... then try to run apache (without services) from the controller... let me know...

Apache then started for me and reinstalled for Windows NT!

    Now everything runs!!
