hello
for some reason , my background in the central column and bottom navigation bar is not consistent in the IE and firefox.
I want it to look the way it is in IE, but with firefox , it doesn't . the grey background in flowing in between my header and central box.
can you please help me find out what exactly is wrong?

Not sure what you are trying to do, but you have some serious Validation Errors going on.

That's just not right.
Until you correct the problems you will continue to have problems.

I suggest you contact the person who created the Template or did the Template changes for you.

Does the Template work properly to begin with? Minus your changes of course.
Can you reinstall your Template and start over?
May seem like the long way but that's how we all learned.
Seem my Slogan on next line.

In general, Firefox shows the page styling correctly according to standards, while IE (especially IE6 & older) has many bugs and quirks. IE sometimes tries to cover up your errors by guessing at what you meant while Firefox does exactly what you told it to do.
If it displays as you intended in IE but not in Firefox, that often indicates an error in your CSS.
If it displays as you intended in Firefox but not in IE, that is often due to a bug in IE (which are mostly known and have workarounds published).
