No Option to Read Reviews

My cart does not have the ability to read customer reviews. I am using a custom template. The Read Review button is not appearing. So far I have confirmed that the Read Review Button .gif is present in my custom template files. I have confirmed that Show Products Review Button and Show Product Reviews Count is enabled in the Product Type Info Page Layout Option in the admin area. I don't know what else I should be looking for. Help?

Switch to the classic template and see if you can read them

I see a Write a Review box in the left-hand column. If I click on the Reviews [More] link in the Reviews box in the left hand column, it says, "There are currently no product reviews".

If I go back to my custom template (as a logged in customer) and click on Write a Review I see a button named "Reviews". If I click on that button I get to the reviews page but it says "There are currently no product reviews."

I know that there is a least one review submitted, which I recently approved. Now what?

Yes, I am.

[edited to add: Probably relevant piece of information--I have upgraded from v1.38a to 1.51 since I received the review.]
