I have set up my site to collect California taxes. I am selling downloadable products. Tax is being added on California sales. How do I set it up so there is no tax on downloadable products to customers in California?
Thanks,
Lynn

When you add/edit a product, there is a setting for:
Try setting that to: NoneTax Class:

Thank you for the reply.
I set Tax Class to none and it still shows tax.
Here is a bit more information about the way I have things set up.
I am using TaxCloud.
I only have two choices for selecting TAX CLASS which are NONE and Taxable Goods.
I hope this helps and someone will be able to help me.
Thank you,
Lynn

Hi, Linda.
Basis of Product Tax = Shipping
Another thing I tried is I discovered that I believe I need to add a Tax Class of 93101 which is the TIC for downloadable item tax exceptions to override the CA tax. I did this and it still does not work.
Thanks for continuing to look into this. I have been researching ALL day!!

Are you using some sort of addon for your Taxes like Taxcloud?

Yes - TaxCloud as mentioned above
I changed Tax Class "Taxable Goods" to "00000"
All seems to be working fine except for not being able to omit taxes on downloadable items when being purchased by a customer with a CA shipping address.
One other thing - is there a way to not show the Tax Class Description? The customer sees something like this: "Sales Tax + CA Sales Tax + Nontaxable".

I am afraid I really do not know anything about Tax Cloud and how it might be affecting things for you ...
Perhaps someone who actually uses TaxCloud and has non-table products could jump in here and help you out ...

Do you only sell downloadables goods? If so, set the defaul TIC for your website to the appropriate TIC. To determine the correct TIC for your product, log into TaxCloud, go to Taxability Codes, and select the "Explore" tab. Follow the choice options in the computers and digital category, read the descriptions, and find the one that best describes your product. Write down that 5 digit TIC, and set that as your default TIC for your website (Account > Websites).
If you sell lots of different types of products, you will have to set the TIC for you product at your ZenCart product property page.
