Very Strange Database issue

Greetings!
This morning I'm trying to enter new products and getting a very strange problem, in that the data in the Description keeps disappearing, and on most, but not all items...

I can enter the data (tried both text and custom HTML), see it in the Preview, click either Insert or Update ,and when I verify in the browser, the product, photo and all other information are intact, but the description are gone. If I return to the edit screen, sure enough it's gone!

Any ideas on what might be causing this? We do this every month, never had anything like this happen before.

We're 1.3.9d and on GoDaddy Unix server.

It sounds like your site's PHP version was updated to a version > 5.3. That's when the change was introduced to a couple of the PHP functions (htmlentities and htmlspecialchars) making it so that a non-utf8 site (which, since you indicated 1.3.9d) is going to have issues.

You can check that PHP version by viewing the output from your admin's Tools->Server/Version Info.

Thanks! In looking at what has changed, that would be the only one; it was updated to get GoDaddy's new mass mailing system to work properly, so that makes sense...

Fortunately I've been building a new responsive site, but it's not quite ready yet... Here's to a busy weekend...
