Nobody says you MUST do it this way, but I find it comes in very useful when doing an upgrade.

RYK,

WHAT DOES THIS MODULE DO?
This module changes the way the dropdown select fields work on the Attributes Controller Page. The content of the second dropdown (option values) is now dependant upon the content of the first dropdown (option names), so you will only see values that apply to the selected option name. Javascript is used to avoid having the page reload when you make that selection in the first box.
THAT is very MISLEADING. I thought that said option dependent ability. That is where all the confusion came from.
Thanks,
Brad
yeah, I found my old zips and files. It's the same help file, and I was confused by it as well. Sorry to get you upset Ryk. I just happened to read this while searching for a mod that did the other. But there is another thread that its directly asked and directly answered no.
However this mod does make things alot easier ;)
I beg to differ. How can "This module changes the way the dropdown select fields work on the Attributes Controller Page" be in the slightest bit misleading?"
I concede that it does offer "option dependent ability" but it works EXACTLY as advertised... on the Attributes Controller Page! Nowhere is there any suggestion that this will allow you to create option dependent attributes on the store side.

Thank you thank you thank you. You are awesome. Just what I needed!
I'm more than happy with it too, and think the description is accurate.
However, I'm still on version 1.1 which is great, but did anyone every figure how to sort the attributes into an order, such as numerical or alphabetical, without messing in the database or manually changing 11,300 options?!?
If you setup your Option Values properly with default sort order set, you can either hit the Update Sort Order at the top of the Attributes Controller ...
Or ... go to the Tools ... Store Manager ... and globally fix all Option Values Sort Order with:
Update All Products' Attribute Sort Orders
to match Option Value Default Sort Orders:

Yes, they're all zero
I'm just not seeing such a thing - I've been to
/admin/options_values_manager.php
/admin/options_name_manager.php
/admin/attributes_controller.php
and whatever I do, whether I have a product up or not, I just don't see that option!
[/QUOTE]Did that two, but my values are still listed as 5,11,9,7,10,6,8 rather that numerically. Where am I going wrong?! Thanks for help.
First ... check the settings in Configuration ... Product Info ...
Set to 0 ...
Set to 1 ...Products Info - Products Option Name Sort Order
Sort order of Option Names for Products Info
0= Sort Order, Option Name
1= Option Name
0
1
Products Info - Product Option Value of Attributes Sort Order
Sort order of Product Option Values of Attributes for Products Info
0= Sort Order, Price
1= Sort Order, Option Value Name
Go to the Catalog ... Options Values Sorter ...
Select the Option Name you want to sort ... click Edit ...
Set all of the Sort Orders for each value ... I recommend setting these by 10s as in 10, 20, 30, 40 ... then hit Update ...
Go to Tools ... Store Manager ...
Find:
Click the Update Button ...Update All Products' Attribute Sort Orders
to match Option Value Default Sort Orders:
NOTE: it is always a good idea to back up your database before making global changes like this ...

Whoah there! I've got loads of options (sizes, colours, styles, adult and child sizes, length, fabric, etc), some with 20 of more values
I just need it to automatically sort by alpha or number, which setting it to default should do....shouldn't it?
I mean, SURELY if I have sizes 10,11,12 and 13, I don't have to go through every single option and tell it that 10 comes before 11...do I?
In which case, it just isn't going to happen, as it would take days! But I'm sure that's not what you meant, is it?
