    Default Import Database ERROR

I´m in the process of an upgrade and tried to import a copy of my current database in a new database. I did this before without problems.

However now I get a message: FATAL ERROR saying allowed memory size exhausted. In Gzipped size my database is 700 kb. In phpmyadmin the total sum of tables is 8 MB. I also saw that some tables have overhead and the sum of the column with overhead is 4,5 MB.

Does anyone have a solution how to import the database?

    Thanks for your help!

This means your server is not setup to handle the memory requirements that size of an upload takes.

    You can do several things:

    1) If you host allows it, set your memory size to a higher limit using your php.ini file (right now it is set to 8M. Set it to something like 12 MB or more).

    2) Leave the memory limit as is on the server and break the import file into several files. This will take less memory when importing and should work just fine.

I have no access to the php.ini file, so can´t change memory limits...

How should I break the import file into several files?

Found it out already. I exported the tables in 3 different files and uploaded them separately. It worked. Thanks!

However now I bumped into the next problem. All the special characters like €, é, ñ etc. appear in strange code like € for a €.

I also saw the sum of the columns size and overhead are different from the original database.

    Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Not sure what that all means and why it is doing it. Maybe something to do with character coding. I don't know for sure though.
