Session Time Out at Checkout

I've read other threads about this, but they don't seem to be related to mine. My boss installed zen-cart for our 2nd site on a different server using Fantastico(I read that it was bad to install using it). Everything seems to work fine until I enable SSL. Whenever I log in as a customer, and add an item to my cart, then when I click checkout, it takes me to login page with the header "Sesssion Timed Out, please re-login" or something to that effect. I tried messing with all the Sessions settings in the admin, to no avail. I am not sure what to do next, my boss doesn't want to wipe and do a manual install like our 1st store (which runs perfectly). Any files I need to check to fix this? Btw, it is also a custom template too.

I disabled the SSL for now so it runs fine.

Hard to say from your description, but I had similar issues that I solved by spending some time with the tutorial at https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=14

In my case, Zen-cart was setup correctly, but my host SSL was configured incorrectly.
