    Default IE problem

    http://clearmagicgems.co.uk
    This site looks fine in firefox and safari but the layout all goes wrong in IE.

    The first two divs in the menu have float left, clear none css and the last item has float right, clear none.

    Ive used css_horizontal_dynamic_menu_pauls_edition_1-1 for the fly out menu.
    Any ideas whats going on?

    Ive installed a new site to;

    Im still having the same problem. Ive made all divs 'clear:none' and either float right or left, but some stuff is moved to the next line down with Internet Explorer.

    I seem to have fixed this problem by commenting out all of navMainWrapper in the CSS. the values it had were margin: 0em; and height: 1%;. I dont know what the height value if for so i hope this wont cause any problems down the line or with different browsers.

    Often times, the problem is that IE does not translate as well as FireFox. This causes IE to strictly interpret the code sent to it.

    Try using the W3C Validator to fix problems with xhtml that might help with your problem.

    Its working fine now but ill keep checking.

    Do you know what the 'height: 1%' is there for? I cant see a difference when I remove it but it must be there for some reason!

    I believe it is to account for an IE bug or structural characteristic. IE (6 anyway) in some circumstances doesn't know how to handle an element that doesn't have a specified height.

    thanks, i better do some testing in IE 6 then.
    Is there a program where you switch between different versions of IE rather than have multiple installs?

    Try googling "browser switcher" to see if any will work for you.
