sql table problems after upgrade

I was using version 3.5 and upgraded to 3.8. I backed up my database and then restored after upgrading. My problem seems to be that the restored tables all have "zen_" in front of the table name..ie zen_customers where are I suddenly have tables named customers -- the new version is directed to the customers table but my customers are actually listed in the zen_customers table. What can I do to correct this? Do I somehow merge the old tables into the new or do I redirect all of the php files? Please be a bit specific in answering.

Edit your includes/configure.php file and admin/includes/configure.php files to change the DB_PREFIX to 'zen_' and the new tables will be ignored in favor of the old ones.

I'm wondering though whether you have completed the upgrade process, since if your new site hasn't accessed the old tables, they probably haven't been upgraded.
