    Default Re: drop shipping module

Payments are thru Paypal, When Paypal hands the customer back on payment success is where I need to set the drop ship. There are no offline payments being accepted. I am just a bit confused because I am porting a OsCommerce checkout_success over to Zen Cart and things seem to be handled differently. Where would be the best place to call the drop ship module?

Ok, let me get back to being helpful...

When payment is made on a C-card through a payment gateway, checkout_success means what it says - the payment has been approved and the money's in the bank (unless of course, your gateway provider has somehow authorised payment on a "bad" card.

If you invoke your module when checkout_success is called, all should be OK.

Would I call it from the checkout_success header? What file would you include it in. What stops a refresh from resending the data?

Idea or Suggestion Re: drop shipping module

I've been looking through the forums for a drop shipping module and as many of you are aware there isn't one.there is a purchase orders module but this simply wont do for those of us that drop ship(and I suspect there's alot of us that do)

I've read that the OScommerce cart does and have considered switching to it,but I didn't like any of the sample sites that I seen.(compared to zencart sites)

So I'd like to propose that all who are interested in a proper dropship module pledge to donate some money to the person(s) that create a fully functional module.

For example If I were to pledge $20 to the person(s) who would write the module and the same amount to the zencart project upon completion of it.Then if alot of other people did the same it wouldn't be long before there'd be enough to pay for a proper module to deal with dropshipping. This would help alot alot of us to streamline our business and make zencart one of the best shopping carts around.

Another suggestion is that the zencart team write said module and then charge $20 for the first 1000 downloads and $5 thereafter, this would give people a very important module and create a source of revenue for the zencart project.

There are many ways to do this, point is that zencart NEEDS a drop ship module. And if we act as a group on this we can have one at only a small individual cost.

Here is the closest thing I could find....

The module currently works with a fedex shipping module, but it makes it so that you can figure the shipping for EACH ITEM FROM ITS ORIGIN to the destination, not just the whole order from one origin when there could be several.

To add my comments to the mix...I created my store in 10/2009 using one drop shipper. I later found another drop shipper offering as many products in quality and price as my initial drop shipper did. However, here is where the problem arises for me.

My initial (first) drop shipper charges shipping by total COST of the order, not by weight. The second drop shipper I wanted to add to my supplier list charges shipping (conventionally) by WEIGHT, not by cost. So an obvious problem in trying to use them both.

Also, as it has been mentioned earlier in this thread 1) how would shipping be calculated at order checkout using two totally different methods of determining shipping and 2) if a customer orders products from drop shipper A (shipping calculated by cost) and also from drop shipper B (shipping calculated by weight) how could/would that be intergrated into the checkout process?

For me I've had no choice at this point but to choose one or the other as a drop shipper but not both. The issue I would have trying to use both of these drop shippers is calculating the shipping.

There are many great points made in this thread. While creating such a mod would be a major undertaking it wouldn't be impossible with input from many who were interested.

A generic module for dropshipping is possible, but is extremely complicated.
I was a SAP(a Germany software company) ERP cosultant, Sap has a module for dropshipping which takes months to learn and get start.

I think it's better to provide the specific solution for customers rather than generic module.
