Getting Rid of "Delivered" Status In Order History

I have been getting notices from my customers who are saying that they have placed orders and then gone back into their order information page, Status History & Comments, Order Status to find that the order is marked "Delivered" when it is just shipped and put in the Post Office bin ready for pick up. I am using stamps.com (latest version), and a template (Genesis). How can I change the status to something less anxiety producing? Can I personalize it, such as "Given to the Post Office" or is there an alternative wording? I did manage to change this once about 7 years ago, and I don't remember how I did it. I have looked in the Admin Panel but have not seen where this can be modified. Thanks for your help on this small but irritating problem.

To change the wording of that particular status, admin panel, localization, orders status, select the particular status, then edit it.. :)

I usually change the wording from DELIVERED to SHIPPED because as a store owner I can only say it was shipped.

I also on occasion have used one called AWAITING CHECK, and perhaps some stores might want BACKORDERED.

Not unless you ran say a pizza delivery business or other store to site delivery. :) or if you use tracking but don't provide to the customer you can claim delivery when they do. But no matter, the information is there to generally allow setup as desired. There are some pitfalls of changing/resequencing some of the status' if using downloads based on purchase of the item(s).

Those both seem like they could be useful to customer's looking at their order history. Not for everyone, but certainly could be helpful.

That's exactly what the default "Pending" status means.
