On the admin page Configuration>Email, the SMTP Email Account Password setting strips some valid characters from passwords. An example of that would be the password "Q^f=(dOCi)E$". When saved, the password is changed to "Q^dOCi)E$". The "f=(" portion is removed. The similar Newsletter SMTP Email Account Password setting on the page doesn’t remove those characters when saved.
