Auspost for multiple items
Hey, i have correctly installed the improved AustPost add-on. It works great, but i want the ability to charge more when a customer buys multiple items. At the moment when they buy 1 uniform it charges the correct amount, but when they buy 6 uniforms it still charges the same price for one uniform.
I know about the per item module, but when they get the shipping options they can't choose Express shipping, because its a set fee for per item. I would like each option in Auspost to work on quantity or weight for total order.
Is this possible?

The AP module will automatically quote a higher postage cost depending on the number of items required.

As you probably know, Australia Post charge on a graded scale, eg, $x for 1-2kgs, $y for 3-5kgs etc, etc, so depending on the defined weight of your items it is certainly possible for it to appear to not account for the increased weight.

I guess that is why the author called it a 'per item' module. -)

Just like Australia Post itself, the AP module doesn't really care whether you are posting 10 items at 1kg each, 2 items at 5kgs each, or 1 item weighing 10kgs. The end quotation is always going to be the same, namely, a price based on a single 10kg package.
In short, the AP module does already do what you are asking, namely giving a quote based on the weight of the total order.
Now having said that, I MUST stress that the AP module doesn't do any weight calculations whatsover, these are all performed by the zen-cart core code BEFORE they are passed over to the AP module. The AP module then passes those weights over to the AustPost DRC server for the actual quotations.

Re: Auspost for multiple items
Hi,
I have tried to add different numbers of uniforms into the shopping cart, however the price does not change when the weight is increased. When the weight is 1kg it says:
Quote:
Estimate Shipping Costs
Total Items: 1 Weight: 1.087kgs Amount: $35.00 Dims: 29x25x2.5 Boxes: 1
Ship to:
*******
Available Shipping Methods Rates
Australia Post (Parcel Post - 3 days Estimated Delivery Time)
- Includes $5.00 Packaging & Handling. ) $9.00
Australia Post (Registered Parcel Post - 4 days Estimated Delivery Time)
- Includes $7.00 Packaging & Handling. $2.60 Registered. ) $13.60
Australia Post (Insured Parcel Post - 4 days Estimated Delivery Time)
- Includes $7.00 Packaging & Handling. $1.15 Insurance. ) $12.15
Australia Post (Express Parcel Post (1 days Estimated Delivery Time)
- Includes $10.00 Packaging & Handling. ) $17.40
When the weight is 10kgs it says
Quote:
Estimate Shipping Costs
Total Items: 10 Weight: 10.87kgs Amount: $350.00 Dims: 29x25x25 Boxes: 1
Ship to:
*****
Available Shipping Methods Rates
Australia Post (Parcel Post - 3 days Estimated Delivery Time)
- Includes $5.00 Packaging & Handling. ) $9.00
Australia Post (Registered Parcel Post - 4 days Estimated Delivery Time)
- Includes $7.00 Packaging & Handling. $2.60 Registered. ) $13.60
Australia Post (Insured Parcel Post - 4 days Estimated Delivery Time)
- Includes $7.00 Packaging & Handling. $4.60 Insurance. ) $15.60
Australia Post (Express Parcel Post (1 days Estimated Delivery Time)
- Includes $10.00 Packaging & Handling. ) $17.40
So the price does not change depending on the weight of the goods.
Is there something wrong with my settings maybe?

The Austpost module has a toggle to select between grams and kilo's.
This needs to be set to mach how you have specified the weights of your store items.
Example: If you have a product that weighs 500grams, you can specify this as either '500' (grams) or 0.5 (kgs). Both formats make sense in this instance, but if most of your store items are (say) 1kg or more, you will probably specify the weights in kg, eg, 1kg, 1.5kg, 2kg, etc. because specifying them as 1000gms, 1500gms, 2000gms invloves more typing.
Conversely, if most of your store items are under 1kg, then entering them in grams makes more sense, 100gm, 200gm, 250gm, is a lot simpler than 0.1kg, 0.2kg, 0.250kg, etc.
The toggle in the Austpost module is to ensure the correct weighting scale is used for calculations. I'f you set the toggle to 'kgs' and you have a 1kg item that you have specified as 1000gms you will get an invalid quote becuase the calculation will be for an item weight 1000kgs.
The original posteee had the opposite problem, The items were weighted in kgs, eg, 1kg, 1.5kg, 2kg, but the Austpost toggle was set to 'gms', so he was being quoted for items weiging only 1gm, 1.5gm, 2gm, etc, with such small changes in weight the quotes all came out the same.
Make sense now?

Re: Auspost for multiple items
Hi,
I have been doing some testing with this module, and haveing a similar problem. I entered a test product at 0.4kg it displays at approx $11.35 I then change the product weight to 4 kgs and the price still remains at $11.35.
During check out it does display the weight in "Kg's" so I have the module set to Kilo's also. So that matches up.
Any idea's? I tried ultering the weight to grams, thinking it may be displaying in KG's, but calculating as grams. This shot the shipping cost to over $1000. So I think that is incorrect as well.
Anyone had this problem, or can help.
Thanks
Re: Auspost for multiple items
I am having exactly the same problem. With every product I have added, i individually add to my checkout and check that the postage rates are the same as when i check using aust. posts postage calculator.
For single items, the postage is spot on, when I add multiple items, the postage doesn't change, even thought the weight of the parcel falls into the next postage bracket.
