Using Icons to Navigate Categories
Hello,
Sorry if my title was a little cryptic - trying my best to be concise.
I am currently rebuilding my website - both the graphical user interface and the backend. For the backend I would like to use Zen Cart.
My biggest motivation for the redesign is that I would like my visitors to be able to navigate my website using icons rather than searching for text. For example, my website sells water purification equipment and two of my main categories are Water Softeners and Water Filters. I would like to place a graphical icon for each of these categories (and others) on my homepage so that customers could recognize the category by the picture although I would also like to add a very small text-based caption.
I would like to know if anybody is aware of a "Powered by Zen-Cart" site that uses this type of navigation? Any other tips?
Thank you!
Reid

To use Zen Cart both the front end and the backend will need to be Zen Cart. This is due to the sessions used for security. One can not just use pieces that they want as this is a complete web environment

Kobra - I didn't describe my intentions very clearly. I am planning to use Zen for the entire website - both front and back end. I do, however, have a previously existing graphical front end that I am going to try and adapt Zen Cart to. There are some navigational elements of the existing design that are important for me to have in the final product. Basically, I want visitors to "drill down" to a single product page by using icons to navigate rather than the typical text menu on the top left of most pages.

You can turn off the categories sidebox as any other and program your icons to do the navigation but unless you know php fairly well these will be hard coded and obviate much of the serverside benefits
