Help with moving my files

I installed the cart into a folder called Zen. Now I want to put all the files into public-html. I read the tutorial about moving/renaming the folder and changed the path in both configure.php files.......and I made a complete mess! my text and images were there, but none of my template backgrounds showed up and everything looked screwy. Since then, I've put in a redirect to my zen folder and everything is working ok. Is there any drawback to just leaving it this way since I can't figure out how to move everything without messing it up??

When you edited your configure.php file settings, did you make the file on the server writable before attempting to save the changes? If it's read-only, you can't save changes to it.
