Spanish Language Pack (complete and UTF8) for Zen Cart 1.39b

In the interests of people not duplicating effort, I am currently updating the spanish Admin language defines before doing the Catalog ones.

Este pack es la primera versión completa (incluidos todos los archivos y botones) en castellano para Zen Cart.
¿Por qué? Para ampliar el uso de Zen Cart en la comunidad en castellano, y por ello espero que la comunidad contribuya con mejoras y correcciones al pack.

Formato de la Fecha
Las versiones “ dd_mm_aaaa spanish.php” (para Admin y el
Catálogo) tienen el código alterado para mostrar las fechas en el formato dd_mm_aaaa en vez de mm_dd_aaaa de las versiones originales.
Para usarlas, borre spanish.php y renombre dd_mm_aaa spanish.php a spanish.php.

Los botones se han creado con el Zen Button Construction Kit:

No sé si me he perdido, pero creo que no está todo traducido porque falta los elementos del menú "Configuración" y las provincias españolas siguen mal escritas (se mantienen las de inglés).

Soy de Coru(ñ)a, por lo que me interesaría saber si eso se puede incluir en el paquete sin tener que tocar la BD (ya lo hice, pero no quisiera tener que hacerlo para cada nuevo sitio).

Intentaría colaborar, pero no conozco ningún sistema tipo Subversion... ¿es necesario?

Las palabras de los menus de configuración, provincias y países vienen de la base de datos en vez de archivos externos. Están instaladas así al principio.
Escribí un post hace unos días sobre la posibilidad de ampliar el programa de instalación para que use otro idioma, pero no me contestaron los devs, entonces nada por ahora.

Lo que puedes hacer es corregir los nombres de las provincias y después exportar la tabla para usar en otras bases de datos.
Incluso creo que se puede cambiar todas las palabras de las menus de configuración directamente en la BD y hacer la misma exportación.
De hecho, si lo haces, podré incluirlos en la traducción.

Me gustaría hacer disponible una versión del Zen Cart en español completo, listo para usar con campo para DNI y otros modificaciones comunes y montar otro foro (los que hay en castellano no valen para mucho) pero simplemente no tengo el tiempo ni colaboradores.

No hay duda que Zen Cart es uno de los mejores carts que
hay, y cuando sale la versión 2.0, no habrá nada para tocarlo. Debería tener una presencia más profesional ya, pero tendrá que venir de los usuarios y no del equipo Zen Cart.

I just said the config menus are hard-coded and I have asked in the wish-list about a multi-language installer for 2.0. but no reply, guess that impacts too much on admin and may be done later

He mirado el código de la pagina y los tildes están en formato iso 8859-1 no utf-8. Espero que estas utilizando algo como Notepad++ para hacer cambios y no Notepad de windows. Notepad++ muestra el encoding en uso.
A continuacion la base de datos y su contenido tiene que estar en formato utf-8 tambien.

Estoy intentando instalar el spanish pack, subi los archivos de INCLUDES y ADMIN a sus lugares... me quedo la duda de donde se sube aquella que dice SU_PLANTILLA, querra decir CLASSIC o DEFAULT... si la carpeta BUTTONS no esta creada habra que crearla?

Intente varias veces pero sigo obteniendo un error que dice que faltan carpetas y directorios....

agradezco la ayuda...

Tendrás que buscar, y prepárate para aprender mucho, pero a largo plazo merece la pena, Zen Cart 2.0 será el mejor cart disponible, no hay duda.
Hay mucha ayuda en este foro pero solamente si haces algo de trabajo primero; no hagas preguntas que se puede solucionar en dos clicks en Google. Te recomiendo que no uses el buscador del foro, no va bien.

1) Este language pack está en UTF-8, no el charset por defecto del Zen Cart actual. Es mejor para mostrar las tildes correctamente pero tu base de datos tiene que almacenar los datos en este formato y usar el collation utf-8 general.
Google es tu amigo.

2) CLASSIC es un ejemplo de una plantilla.
No deberías tocarla.
Es muy fea pero funciona como una herramienta muy útil porque sirve para comprobar si los personalizaciones que hayas hecho que han “jodido” la página están en tu plantilla o en el código central.

DEFAULT TEMPLATE no es una plantilla, es un almacén de todas las páginas que la tienda usa.
No deberías tocarla.
Cuando quieras modificar algo, tienes que hacer una copia un tu plantilla y editar esa.

3) Deberías crear tu nueva propia plantilla con un nombre distinto. Puedes copiar los archivos de CLASSIC pero hay que cambiar los nombres de las carpetas al nombre de tu plantilla.
¿Cómo hacerlo? - Google es tu amigo.

4) Language files. Una vez que tienes todo bien en inglés en tu nueva plantilla, puedes añadir el segundo idioma.
Hay que meter el contenido de las carpetas nombradas "SU_PLANTILLA" en las carpetas equivalentes de tu nueva plantilla.

I cannot seem to get the spanish language version of the site to work. I have copied the necessary files to the site, i have gone to admin > localisation > language , and added spanish / es and made it default.

what else do i need to do? i cant find any decent help pages to tell people how to have multi language zencarts :(

i want the visitors of the site to be able to choose between english and spanish. but have spanish as the default.

im using the latest zencart 139d.

ok , ignore some of my previous post. I have got the site to work in both english and spanish...i think.

I can swap betwen the two using the language/flag option on the sidebar.

however, how do i make spanish the default? i have set it as default in the admin section but it still seems to be english when you first visit the site.

I assume you have renamed the SU_PLANTILLA folders to match your new template/the contents are in your new template folders?

Do you have the languages sidebox visible to be able to select between languages?
If so, what does it show?
Does the admin have a define language pull-down select option on the top left of the menu bar?
If so, what happens when you select spanish?

yes i have the site displaying ok now in spanish, but i cant seem to have the spanish version as the default.

I have to click on the spanish flag in the sidebox to swap it to spanish very time i visit the site.

any idea how i get it to default to spanish?

I think it detects the browser settings, you will have to have the default content set to spanish and maybe even the browser language.

I think i have managed to set the default language to spanish, you set it in the admin > language section as default.

I did notice that one of your buttons is still in english?

Ive also just had a very strange thing happen to my site.

If i make any change to the spanish.php file in "includes > languages" the site loses some of its layout settings.

It displays fine in english, but if i swap to the spanish version some of the CSS isnt working properly.

If i overwrite the file with the original spanish.php file in your pack it reverts back and looks ok again.

All I am changing is the

define('TEXT_PRODUCT_WEIGHT_UNIT','kgs');

//Shipping
define('TEXT_SHIPPING_WEIGHT','kgs');

from lbs to kgs.

anyone else had this issue where making any change to this file makes the whole site look wrong?

Hi again :)

i have solved this problem. it was because when I save the document in notepad i need to change the coding to ANSI. it was saving it in utf-8 and therefore breaking the coding so presumably my web host couldnt read it properly, even though the spanish.php is set to utf-8 coding.

anyway, if anyone else has any css layout issues after making changes to any php files in this spanish language pack, or probably any other language pack, always check what coding the file is being saved as.

He cambiado invitado a visitante.
He puesto todo a cesta.
He añadido un botón "Detalles del Producto" que no era traducido.
He actualizado todos los botones a un tamaño menor.
He corregido un error en linea 58 de includes/modules/payment/paypal.php.
Los archivos nuevos están en sourceforge.

Carro/Cesta -> Cesta (both terms were previously in use)
The "Product Details" button was not translated.
The button sizes have been reduced and the big/small buttons now correspond to the sizes as used in the english default.
There was an error on line 58 of includes/modules/payment/paypal.php.
The new files are in sourceforge and will be uploaded presently to the forum downloads.

The name of the Seur carrier is used in these four shipping modules:

\includes\languages\spanish\modules\shipping\table.php
\includes\languages\spanish\modules\shipping\perweightunit.php
\includes\languages\spanish\modules\shipping\item.php
\includes\languages\spanish\modules\shipping\flat.php

So you have to edit the one you are using.
If you are using Windows I recommend you try Windows GREP, you would have found these references very easily.

Hi to participants, and thanks to Torvista for updating this mod and the Zen Button Construction Kit which is recommended to be installed along with this module.

I have posted a question in one of the button construction threads relating to how to get that module installed, as the module's instructions are aimed at someone more knowledgeable than myself.

Regarding this mod, I think the box headings may fall into a different category than the buttons. I am seeing box headings in English in the form of Return_Customer_Text, or Box-Heading_Authorize.Net, or Heading_Shop_Confidence, etc., which appear on the main page and login page.

What are my options to change these? Have I missed a step in installing this mod?

This also occurs on my main page for the Authorize.net sidebox, which at the top says BOX_HEADING_AUTHORIZENET.

I do know how to attach a screenshot to an email. If that would help, I will try to email the screenshot(s) to you. At the moment they are saved as .png files.

I may be able to locate these with the developer's toolbox and fix one-by-one, but wanted to see if the headings were due to some install step I missed. Thanks.

Those UPPERCASE_THINGS are called constants. They are placeholders for the text that would normally appear in those spots. Those constants are defined using "define" statements in language files.
When you're seeing the constants showing up instead of the text that should be in their place, then that means you're missing one or more files from your server that would normally contain those definitions, or you've just plain skipped defining them.

Find the files that you skipped uploading (or which failed to upload fully), and upload them to your site, and the problem will go away.

Are you using a template you have added to zen cart?
ie You have not copied "classic" and created your own template using "classic" as a base?

I am using Clyde Jones' Zencart_Zen template.

Do a file compare on the english language files included in your template and those of the default zen cart, I think there are extra language defines used in your template. These will not have spanish equivalents defined- you'll have to add those yourself in the corresponding files.

Pursuant to the comments of Dr. Byte and Torvista:

1. I checked out the reference/tutorial on Constants, and then searched for them in the Developer's Toolkit, but the toolkit seemed to ignore such language and returned no results. For example, a search for "BILLING_INFO_TEXT" under "All language files for ENGLISH - Catalog/Admin" results in:

2. I compared the includes/languages/english.php default with the includes/languages/MYTEMPLATE/english.php, made the changes to includes/languages/spanish.php using Google Translate, and saved to includes/languages/MYTEMPLATE/spanish.php.

Since the Developer's Toolbox is not returning files for Constants, it looks like I will need to compare the includes/languages/english.php for each module I added with my includes/languages/MYTEMPLATE/english.php file, one-by-one, and add the Spanish translations where needed.

3. I obtained translations from Google Translate, and they are exact translations in the spanish.php file. However, the ? is replacing letters in the translated text on the login page. For example, on the Login page I see the following text:

I did change over my cart to UTF8 by the SQL export, search and replace latin1 with UTF8, and import changed SQL file into PHPMyAdmin.

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot the stray ? problem. The spanish.php file does not contain the stray characters.

4. I see that some of my products have text in both the Spanish and English product boxes, but others do not. I am guessing this might be due to my having added certain products through Easy Populate after installing the Spanish language module, but I am not sure.

Does Easy Populate automatically place product descriptions in both the Spanish and English boxes, or is there a particular technique for getting the text into both the Spanish and English boxes for product descriptions?

I assume you are developing on windows and hosting on linux - I could never get the php-generated-text-with-accents (the days and months) to display correctly on windows but on linux yes.

In substituting ISO_8859-1 for utf-8 for the email and web page, the ? goes away, but of course I get such things as "¿Olvidó su contraseña?" on my Windows environment WAMP server.

Looking at the includes/languages/spanish.php text more carefully, I see that it shows the coding for the accents:

So I am going to guess that the text from Google Translator that appears correctly in the html editor is showing the accented characters in ANSI in the HTML editor.

If correct, I need to search for a method to translate Google Translate ANSI letters into letters with accents and apply that process to any further translations I attempt.

If the above is correct, would you have a recommendation as to the best way to translate the ANSI letters into the code which shows correctly on the web page?

What TEXT editor are you using to look at these language files?

I use notepad++ which shows the encoding of the file at the bottom of the screen - it is important that this is utf-8 (without BOM) not ANSI.
If it is utf-8, then the accented characters should be represented correctly with no strange characters, if they are not, re-type them so they are correct.

If the file is not utf-8 (without BOM), then ctrl-X everything, change the encoding to utf-8 and paste it back into the file.
Correct any wrong characters.

Now how does it look?

Thanks for pointing out my omission of the override in identifying the spanish.php directory. My active spanish.php file is indeed in includes/languages/MYTEMPLATE/spanish.php.

I use a free HTML editor, Coffee Cup, for lots of php file editing because it is pretty user friendly, sometimes lets me see a preview, and will save a file that is already in .php, although it does not give me that election in the "save as" bottom-of-file box.

I also use Notepad++, generally for editing .sql or Excel files. I checked on the web how to save in utf-8 because I do not have that option at the bottom in a "save as" format, and came upon the following which applies to my version of Notepad++:

I made the above 2 changes from the "Format" and "Settings" tabs in the header location. I opened a fresh spanish.php file from includes/languages/MYTEMPLATE/spanish.php, and re-saved, but got the ? in place of o and e with accents.

I searched the web for some sort of chart of characters with accents, but found nothing so far, so I copied some accents in the spanish.php file, from the words Información and términos, so the verbiage from my Zencart_Zen template is changed thus:

Notepad++
Although it shows the encoding in use at the bottom of the page, there is no "save as." option related to encoding.
Encoding changes are done via
Encoding->Encode in UTF-8 without BOM.

I think your questions about encoding are not really necessary, I have not had so many problems getting it to work.

These are my checksteps:
1) the file is now encoded as utf-8 as indicated in notepad++.

2) the offending phrase is written correctly in the file with the accents and no odd characters.

To be completely idiot-proof regarding overrides, I put a marker in the offending phrase, like "here" at the start, to have no doubt the file I have open is the one providing the text I have a problem with.

3) View the page in the browser and check the encoding as delivered to the browser is utf-8: this should be in the head section

If the characters are still corrupted, then I don't know, and someone else needs to input something here.
(I have deliberately not mentioned the connection to the database requires defining as utf-8 as I don't think it matters in relation to the language defines.)

I read your response as saying "crédito" should look like "crédito" in Notepad++.

However, those odd codes are in every place where there should be an accented letter in my override file.

I asked myself: Have I changed things by saving spanish.php from Coffee Cup which is an HTML editor?

That appears possible. I checked the default file which is the original spanish.php file, and it has the correct appearance you describe, with no odd codes.

So, I recreated my override file in Notepad++.

My "? in lieu of accented letter" problems disappeared and all text renders correctly now. The web page source code reads utf-8.

I so much appreciate your helping me to work this out.

If I discover the remedy to the box_heading problem, I will let you know.

If you have a file that looks correct (Notepad++) and change the encoding, you will see the accented characters change and you`ll have to retype/correct them.
If however you copy or cut all the text, then change the encoding, then paste the text back it, it will all look the same but be in the new encoding, requiring no changes on your part.

So, if there is any other characters being rendered incorrectly, it must be the encoding of that particular language file.

Regarding your BOX_HEADING, if there are CONSTANT_NAMES being shown instead of text, then there is no spanish language defined for that CONSTANT_NAME.

You need to search (I use Windows GREP) for that constant define (assuming an english one exists) and create a spanish equivalent, ensuring that the source file is utf-8.

As everyone who replies here, the hope is that you only have to describe a solution once, then its there for anyone else.

I have had no success using GREP or the Developer's Tool Kit to find terms on my WAMP test site. My searches continually find nothing, and searching on the bottom box in the Developer's Tool Kit times out.

I did solve the BOX_HEADING problem by copying all the files from the following directories to the corresponding spanish directory and translating those files:

includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/MYTEMPLATE/

includes/languages/english/extra_definitions

includes/languages/english/MYTEMPLATE

I copied language from the templates provided with the Spanish Language Pack where I could, and used Google Translate for the material unique to my site.

Since Notepad++ defaults to ANSI, many times I had to redo files and cut and save again in UTF-8 without BOM, but in the end the Login page is fine and the box headings are correct, and the cut and re-paste procedure works when question marks turn up in the text.

Hi. I'm seeing a ? wherever an accented letter should appear in my category names.

Does anyone know where or how to correct this? My PHPMyAdmin lists the names correctly in the categories_description table.

The category name as stored in the database is not the same, or not being passed as the same charset as that expected by the browser.

1) Just to be sure, you HAVE defined the db_charset as utf-8 as explained here..?

4) in phpmyadmin - select the database - what collation are the tables?

I created the /includes/extra_configures/my_db_charset.php and admin/includes/extra_configures/my_db_charset.php files as instructed in the link above, and wrote in utf8 as the character set.

This solved my category name problems which now show the accents correctly.

Just a footnote, I spoke too soon being happy that the accented letters displayed correctly in my category list. However, on checking the Admin, they did display with the odd characters and I did need to delete those and replace them with new translations. At that point, the Admin was also correct.

My tables are in utf8 collation.

since you had not changed the charset previously, you will probably find everything accented will require re-entering..

New problem: Except for a one-product category which displays correctly, the category names will not save. Saving text translated in Google leaves a single capital letter where the product name should be.

The category names displayed with correct accents until I changed the odd characters (ANSI?) to appear correctly in the Admin>Categories.

English category names still show as intended.

Somehow I thought version 1.3.9 of Zen Cart had incorporated the utf-8 and did not need the original tutorial from 4/2/08 here
forum/showthread.php?t=93439&highlight=utf8+collation+change.

I solved all but one of the category name problems by going to that tutorial's .pdf instructions at http://www.srw2d.com/sites/default/f...cartV1.3.8.pdf and entering in the utf-8 and utf8 as directed into the includes/languages/english.php and admin/includes/languages/english.php files.

(Why must we use sometimes utf-8 and sometimes utf8?)

So I have several categories which now show properly with accents.

However, one of the category names did not previously save in Spanish, and still does not. It's nearly identical to 4 other categories.

One category with no accents has always saved properly in Spanish.

I do not know how to enter accented characters manually, so I try to find a similar character to paste if I am entering by typing. Generally, I copy and paste from Google Translate.

I should mention, as it now occurs to me, that the missing category does have a blank square where the category icon should be, but no title and no icon, although both title and icon show up in English. This particular category has always displayed in that manner, unlike the other categories which at least displayed their icons.

I will try to reload the category and products.

Regarding the .pdf tutorial just mentioned, it should be noted that the thread discusses that the .pdf instructions regarding alteration of the query file are no longer valid.

its a pain using ALT+a-number-on-the-numeric-keypad if you are using a laptop, in that case it's maybe worthwhile getting an external keyboard with accents/setting it as a spanish layout.

category icon - if ZC cant find the image and the alt text is wrongly encoded, you may get this.

I'm out of ideas for troubleshooting why the Spanish catergory and subcategory titles do not save in Admin.

At first, some did, and a few self-populated the Spanish category titles.

I checked PHPMyAdmin and found 2 categories that were saved with blank titles but actually had category numbers and were identified as "Language 2." I therefore typed the names directly into those categories and they now show up in Admin.

I also found 6 subcategories with the exact same name of CD+G, as in my early attempts at making categories I had several categories with CD+G as a subcategory. I renamed these so each subcategory name was more descriptive. That had no effect whatsoever on the not-saving problem. Those sub-categories do show up in my store and did save.

I might like to try creating my categories in PHPMyAdmin but am uncertain if this is a sound approach. I would rather know what is happening. Also, I am not sure of which tables to change.

I also could try going live with the Spanish Language Pack and see if that corrects the problem and, if so, I could exchange the online database and cart for the current WAMP cart.

I had a small success in using Easy Populate, once I had downloaded my products and seen the file structure with the added 3 columns for the Spanish v_product_name_2, v_product_description_2, and v_product_url_2. I added those fields to my products_description table in PHPMyAdmin using language 1 fields as a model, and successfully uploaded the Spanish descriptions along with the English descriptions.

Maybe one approach would be to try to modify the Easy Populate file to incorporate the Spanish category, or purchase Easy Populate Advanced 1.2.5.4, to see if this makes the category names become accepted and saved.

I thought of re-uploading the Spanish Language Pack. I could save the modified language files elsewhere and start fresh and see if the titles save again. If I do this file-by-file, perhaps the erroneous file could be identified.

Do any of the above possible approaches seem appropriate? Does one seem more promising than another?

I think you started to create categories before you added the second language.
You can see in the database table categories_description that there is no field assigned for the second language for the problem categories. You would expect the admin to give you an error message when you try and save the text to the non-existent field but it does not.

You can insert the missing fields in the database manually or use the admin to create a new category, move the products and delete the old category.

To do it in Admin:
1) Note down the number of the problem category.

2) Create a new version of the problem category (eg: same name with “new” on the end) and note down the number.

3) Go to one of the products in the problem category and click on copy

4) Open Multiple Categories Link Manager

5) Use this option:
Copy ALL Products in a Category as LINKED Products to another Category ...
and link the products in the problem category to the new category using the numbers you noted down.

6) Now use this option so the linked products in the new category become the master ones
Reset ALL Products in the selected Category to use the selected Category as the new Master Categories ID ...
They are now all linked to the old category

7) Now use this option to break the link and so remove the linked products from the old category
Remove ALL Products in a Category that are LINKED Products to another Category ...

8) Now you can delete the problem category

I checked PHPMyAdmin to make a list of the needed versus existing categories.

I was able in PHPMyAdmin to compare the 2nd language titles with the 1st language titles, so I could have a checkoff list of the categories I need to create. There are 50 subcategories without Spanish category names and 1 category without a Spanish category name.

In considering whether it might be just as easy to add the categories by way of PHPMyAdmin, I had to consider the question of how Zen Cart would identify subcategories with identical names, if they exist (such as my 5 CD+G categories that I renamed with unique names, mentioned above).

This led me to look at the products_to_categories table, which has 20 pages, and it became apparent that, if I were to make changes via PHPMyAdmin, I would have to match categories and subcategories in that table, which would be a huge task.

So, with that realization, I will give the changes a try as you recommend, through Admin.

I will let you know how things turn out when I tackle this soon.

My mistake: Regarding the above post, the products_to_categories table does not relate subcategories to categories.

If there is no subcategories_to_categories table, how does Zen Cart know under which category to place a subcategory?

Perhaps it's an academic question in the case of a language pack, because the category numbers are identical, and only the language number changes. But that does not seem right.

I probably will try making a subcategory or two in PHPMyAdmin, as well as trying the Admin method, since this is a test cart.

Perhaps I will find out by experience whether or not just adding to the categories_description table in PHPMyAdmin would be an incomplete MySQL process. I have a feeling that it might be. Otherwise, it seems a simpler and faster way to go.

I would agree on both counts, maybe someone higher up the Zen Cart-knowledge-chain could confirm that adding a missing category language_id field and entry directly in phpmyadmin is all that is required or that doing it in admin adds other mysqlical (sic) stuff we know nothing about...

You will be pleased to hear that the simplest solution worked, and then a simpler solution magically appeared.

First, I found the link between categories and subcategories in the PHPMyAdmin categories table, which contains a categories_id plus a parent_id for the category.

Since all categories appeared in that table for Language 1 (English), no entry was needed for Language 2. Therefore, entering a category in the categories_description table was indeed all that was needed to correct the display in the Zen Cart second language category name that wouldn't previously save.

But before making all the additions, I purchased Easy Populate Advanced 3.03, which I read in another thread would upload second language files: zencartbuilder.com

Identifying the path for the uploads file was tricky (found in admin/includes/configure.php at DIR_FS_CATALOG), but after installing, and then downloading the example Easy Populate template and data files, my single main category and 50 sub-categories magically appeared in the Spanish display along with icons which had been missing. There was an incongruity in the top category's missing file name, a capitalization error.

When I had used Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 for my original upload, I had not originally created any of the categories by hand, because 1.2.5.4 usually creates the categories. I now believe that, had I added the Spanish category names by hand, either in PHPMyAdmin or through Admin, version 1.2.5.4 would have been sufficient for uploading products and categories.

In Post 66, I mentioned I had added language 2 capacity to the products_description table in PHPMyAdmin, and now it appears the Spanish category names are easily added to the categories_description table.

Once I had added the language pack and downloaded a sample template, the Spanish descriptions appeared in the downloaded sample file. But so far, the Spanish category name has not appeared in a template download in either version of Easy Populate.

The Advanced program states one must add a column to get the Spanish translation into the second language category name, so in that respect the Advanced version really isn't different from 1.2.5.4. That will take some research to accomplish.

The missing and unsavable Spanish categories seemed a difficult problem. The stunning performance of Easy Populate Advanced 3.03 is really something to shout about. But so is your and Dr. Byte's help which led to the manual solution of this problem and the propagation of other new ideas that have come my way since delving into the Spanish Language Pack. So I am in awe once again.

I have examined my data in more detail and it appears my guesses about how the language pack works with PHPMyAdmin are incorrect. Although I had the great results with my categories and images appearing in the cart, and although the Spanish descriptions are all filled in, I can't explain why.

I checked the products_name_2, products_description_2 and Products_url_2 fields I had manually placed into the products_description table and those are empty. I do not know where the Spanish product description is placing itself in the database.

Also, the Store download with Easy Populate Advanced 3.0.3 shows many entries that are missing the Spanish translation or an English product description in the Spanish box. Yet the product shows as expected with both translations in the cart. One example is the product FXMIC, which downloads no Spanish description but has one in the cart. This occurs with lots of hardware products (not all) but no software products.

I am thinking that 1.2.5.4 is still needed for stability of uploads and spreadsheet downloads. I have retained 1.2.5.4 on my WAMP server.

I would really like to know why the Spanish descriptions appear in the cart but are missing from many many hardware products in the download, and would also like to know where the descriptions appear in PHPMyAdmin.

(As far as I know, Easypopulate Advanced has long been dormant and unsupported, despite being for sale. Simply from reading about complaints from long ago, I do not get the impression it is to be trusted 100%.
I recommend you try Apsona for an up-to-date import-export experience. They are very responsive in their support too.)

All product and descriptions are in the database, you should be able to search for a snippet of text in there?

I located the Spanish description in PHPMyAdmin. It appears in the same table as the English description, next to the Language 2 title. I can therefore safely delete the columns I added that were parallel to the Language 1 entry.

It pays to look at things afresh.

Hi. I am experiencing problems with Notepad++ not correctly saving Spanish words with accents.

I had to go back to using MS Excel 2007 when I discovered Open Office does not do well with accents; I am reading that, with Open Office, you really have to type accented letters in one by one, and that is not feasible if one has many products.

I open my files in MS Excel using UTF-8; then save.

When I pull them up into Notepad++, the files saved with MS Excel (this also happened with Open Office) will be opened as ANSI files. This will happen whether or not I check to make sure Notepad still is set to default to UTF-8 without BOM.

I will then cut the file, change the Notepad++ to UTF-8 without BOM, and paste the file back into Notepad, and save as UTF-8 without BOM. It might look normal, or it might have all the accented characters missing from the file. Sometimes it is correct for a while, and sometimes it is missing the letters right away.

If I save and reopen the file saved with Notepad++ with UTF-8 without BOM, it definitely has all the accented characters deleted from the file.

However, if I open it in MS Excel again, I can see the accented characters in MS Excel.

Does anyone know what is happening? I have been correcting files for a few weeks now, and just lately returned to MS Excel. I was able to compensate for the missing letters with search and replace, for simpler files. But with more complicated descriptions, that is a losing battle.

Have you tried these sort of manipulations using a CSV generated from another source, ie Apsona?

I must admit all my CSV import/export is for pricing and stock, I never touch the descriptions.

Thanks for responding. These are tab-delimited files generated by Open Office and MS Excel 2007.

I think this question is starting to go off topic from the Spanish Language Pack, in that it is more related to possible incompatibility of Notepad++ and MS Excel/Open Office.

Thank you for advising of Apsona. Perhaps I will try that once my site is up and running. I believe that, as Apsona is menu-driven, it won't advance my knowledge of Zen Cart, which is my current focus.

Just to set the record straight on my Post #76, on going through the process described in Paragraphs 1-3, that process works and is correctly described. Excel files, even when opened in Excel with UTF-8, always save as ANSI and always need to be cut from Notepad++, and pasted after changing Notepad++ format to UTF-8 without BOM. Then the file will be compatible with a UTF-8 site.

I somehow must have deviated from that process to come up with my errors. Not to give Open Office a bad report, my problems there may have related to the unknown erroneous process, so my discouraging report on Open Office given above may be unreliable.

también instalé el Spanish Language Pack, y ahí comienza mi problema.

Cuando cambio al idioma español no se ven los links del footer ni tampoco el link "About us" de la columna izquierda.

Este constante BOX_INFORMATION ABOUT_US es un constante de la plantilla: no existe en los archivos originales de zen cart entonces no esta definido en spanish.

Búsque el constante en los archivos inglés de la plantilla y créalo uno igual, en el mismo archivo correspondiente dentro de los archivos spanish.

Es todo relacionado con las cosas adicionales que tiene la plantilla.

Primero hay que comparar (con Beyond Compare o Winmerge) los archivos originales de zen cart en inglés con los de la plantilla (en inglés) para encontrar nuevos archivos y nuevos constantes. Hay que replicar las cosas nuevas en todos los archivos spanish.

Aunque es laboroso, deberías hacerlo 100%, si no siempre saldrá algún error en alguna página.

I am having a slight issue with the module. When I am using it I cannot change the currency to another currency type. When I select a new currency other than Euros it goes to a blank page. Have you ever run into this issue? Any ideas would be great.

No, I don't have multiple currencies in use.

If I enable the currencies sidebox and change to another currency I don't have any problems, have you checked the debug logs in the cache folder?

Debug log has nothing related to it sadly. And other languages work fine.. Only the spanish.

If there are are two characters missing in a file my shop does not use, I wont see the error.
That`s why we use community-based software isn't it, so other people can contribute?

The catalog side should be complete, we are gradually improving the admin side for native spanish-speakers so the sourceforge SVN version is always kept up-to-the minute: I don't upload a new version here every time we change something in the admin.

My issue was a not closed tag in one of the files as well... I forgot where though :( If I figure it out I will let you know so you can update the files. Thank you for the updates by the way. Ok, today was my first time with ZenCart. I have installed V1.3.9h

Everything seems to be ok when I uploaded the files (admin includes and just includes..)

But now I am trying to get in to Herramientas>Editor de paginas (from admin page) but Im not able to see any HTML code.. in the other hand when I change the language to english I can see the code and modify everything without problems.. but the Zen cart page does not being modified because it is in spanish! :frusty:

I tried to find the .php file in to the server but I cant find it.. I have like 3 Main_page.php in different routes but any of them is the correct.

I supposed the file were be at /public_html/shop/includes/languages/spanish/html_includes/define_main_page.php but the file does not macht with the info displayed in the shop...
then i tryed in this route
/public_html/shop/includes/languages/spanish/html_includes/classic/define_main_page.php
but the file does not have any code :shocking: Im using dreamweaver to edit the files.

Do you have any idea what the problem might be? thank you very much in advance..

If
1) admin is set to spanish AND
2) you are using the classic template AND
3) an override of define_main_page.php exists at
/public_html/shop/includes/languages/spanish/html_includes/classic/define_main_page.php

then that should be the file you see in Herramientas->Editor de Páginas->define_main_page.php
and the file path should prove that.

If you are not sure, put some identifying text in each of the define_main_page.php's (like "this file is at ../..../path") to see more clearly what is happening.

Although you can use Dreamweaver to create and edit the html used in these files note that the files should not have any <header> section nor <body> tags around the code as they are not "complete" html pages but only the content within a page created by Zen Cart.
Dreamweaver CS5 is now also useful for editing the php files as it does realtime syntax checking for php.

ps You should create your own template from a copy of classic and leave classic untouched. This is essential when you are bug-fixing your template and you need to prove the fault is in your new template and not somewhere else - you can switch between the templates.

Hi there, thanks for this pack - I'm sure it will be great once I sort it out! I'm having an issue with the the Spanish version of the site I'm trying to make. My css in the English version isn't used, Spanish page names aren't used and there are sideboxes present that are isn't used in the English version. I've copied the files over and added the language in the directory 'spanish'. I get the flag icon and everything else seems to be there such as 'buscar' etc. but it's clearly not setup right yet?

Can anyone pointme in the right direction? Much appreciated if you can
