Re: Checkout without account
The only reason I am no longer using my mod and have switched to "optional" is because I have wholesale customers and also because I need to be able to save cart contents. Most regular customers choose not to create an account. Even repeat customers tend to not create an account. Its a strange phenomenon that someone doesn't want to enter one extra thing... a password. And I do it to. I've shopped at several sites where I chose guest checkout. I don't really know why. I guess I felt I didn't need to "commit" to those particular sites. But really, its not like we're getting married. (And it only took me 7 years to commit to marriage!)
It's too hard trying to figure out why customers do or don't create accounts. My humble opinion... I think most of them would rather not.

You rock!!
It's not that bad really. Create a test cart and try it out first. That's what I did. I'm okay at installing these things, but I'm too paranoid to try trhem out on my own site first. I'd rather go through the whole bit of installing a test site before I mess with the months of hard work on my live site. If I can do it, you can. I'm no genius.

ha! well i don't know how other people do it, but i do this:
1. my hosting account allows me up to 10 databases. yours probably lets you have more than one too. install another database from your hosting account control panel.
2. download zen again. i download the same version i am currently using, which is 1.3.6.
3. install zen cart all over again like you did the first time, but call it "cart2" or "shop2" or whatever else you want and use the new database. during install, check the box that asks you if you want to install the demo store.
and that's it. from there you can install mods and play around.
Maybe there's an easier way. I tend to do things the long, hard way. Ooooh, that sounded dirty!

don't we all? zenners need to get out our shot glasses and relax for once. i don't know about you, but zen cart gets my panties in a bunch all the time. don't get me wrong, i LOVE zen cart to death. its a love/hate relationship. and i know if i went elsewhere it would be a really bad thing. to me, zencart is like a really cute puppy. you love it to death and its the best thing that ever happened to you... and then it craps on your new carpet and has your slippers for dinner.
Re: Checkout without account

Its the link in my signature that says "make password optional".
Re: Checkout without account
I use a server to test my shopping cart software. You can read up here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_WAMPs
and download the one of your choice.
I downloaded a couple and tried to set each one up with my shopping cart.
Vertrigo Server was the only one that installed the cart without any tweeking, however there isn't an email client so sending emails is out of the question. I did try to install mercery mail but don't know who to set up the php.ini file for mail. For installing mods it works because if something is going to crash it crashes on the home server and not the live server.
If you choose Vertrigo Server you will need to place a shortcut on the desktop yourself and you will want to install the server in program files. Set up the database in phpmyadmin, place the cart in the www folder and run the installer in the browser localhost/cart/zc_install and answer all questions, boom you have a test server.

Re: Checkout without account
Just wanted to stop by and say a big "thank you" to craftzombie and all people involved in the "no account required" work-around mod. I must say that of all the mods I have downloaded, I have never seen anyone like craftzombie, who gave so much detail and so much explanation and was so helpful with her readme's. Too bad all the mods aren't that easy to understand and use.
I downloaded, tweaked it to suit me and have it running smoothly on my 1.3.7 zen site. Thank you, thank you, and thank you for no more login accounts! My customers hated it and whined and complained, so we are all happy campers now!
I've disabled my downloads and gift cert for now. These were not/are not a big part of my site anyway so I will find a work-around for them another day.
BTW craftzombie, I lived in HH many, many years ago, when my DH was stationed at Ft Hood. Small world.........
many thanks again,
Shirley
