Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
There's something in the read_me about changing some lines in /wp-includes/canonical.php, but the second set of lines referred to does not exist in the file I have. I am wondering if that's why my Wordpress links are not working.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Okay, let me be the first to say I am NOT a coder, nor do I claim to be, but in trying to figure this out, I am confused by this in the templates/tpl_wordpress_default.php file:
print $define_page;
Logic said to me that the $define_page had to be set somewhere so I used the developer's toolkit and saw that in every instance of $define_page being used, there was a matching $define_page in a modules/pages/foldername/header_php.php file...except this one. There is no $define_page in the modules/pages/wordpress/header_php.php file. Could that be the problem?

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Ok, I have my paths set up correctly, I have the side bar displaying the categories and such but when you click on a category to view the postings you get a blank page within Zencart. Any body have this issue? What did you do to resolve it.

Try a different theme in WordPress.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Tried that. It will change no problem, but if you do a preview of any of the themes in WP is shows an error
Fatal error: Call to a member function get_template_dir() on a non-object in /home/attent5/public_html/designs/includes/languages/english/credit_cards.php on line 46

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
I just set up a new install of zen 1.3.8a wordpress 3.8.5 and woz 1.4 and everything seems to work. The woz sidebox shows whatever widgets I assign in the dashboard. The links to posts in the sidebox resolve just fine. Also using a free theme from http://www.zenflavor.com.
So, I would suggest a new install for anyone having issues. This is a first for me using this mod. Welcome back Hira!

Wordpress 3.8.5?? You mean 2.8.5? I'm running 2.8.6, maybe that's the problem. It seems that several of us are experiencing the same thing so I don't think it's us...

I think Hira mentioned a few pages back that he developed this mod on PHP4. Does your host allow you to switch back and forth to PHP 4 or use an .htaccess to assign version?
Is anybody else using this on PHP 5 with no issue?

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Hi RMelick,
I had a similar problem (from memory) when performing my own 'manual' redirects from the root index.php file. I actually fixed it once (no idea how) however a subsequent re-install of ZC meant i could not reproduce my feats of the past.
**An interesting point - I noticed certain WP templates raised the error where others did not. Some in fact raised more errors, however I have yet to understand how I originally fixed it**
Anyway, I simply gave up in the end and stopped trying a full integration, which might sound like a lazy approach, but check out the site to see how i've integrated it first: www.qualityhomebrew.com.au.
the primary reason for 'giving up' was actually conflicting CSS, which I had neither the time or the patience to fix. Instead, I installed wordpress in a subfolder, used a redirect for the variable index.php?main_page=wordpress, and then incorporated wordpress entries manually into my zen-cart layout. i actually learnt quite a lot in the process, and as the whole purpose of wordpress in this site was to improve SEO and make it a 'sub-component' of ZC, i think it works quite well.
last but not least, there is a wealth of information on calling wordpress functions and variables directly from your ZC templates, so in a funny kind of way i have made my implementation a little more robust as no longer is WP relying on ZC or vica-versa.
I'm unfortunately not in a position to test using this site anymore as the one site I implemented it on is now LIVE, and just a tad busy this week to go from scratch again but if I can find a solution i'll post it here.
Good luck!

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
FYI,
Your site loads VERY slow, and though my screen resolution is set to 1152 X 864, the left and right side of your site extends OFF my screen without even a scrollbar to see the far left and far right of the layout..

I don't think what you're doing is lazy.. I too gave up on full integration using WOZ because it was far too aggravating for me trying to work through all these hiccups for every site I tried using this module with.
I posted this earlier in the WOZ support thread: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=693495&postcount=655. These are my down and dirty instructions I came up with for using only the sideboxes from the WOZ module. I have since tweaked this process to include removing quite a bit of the code from the wp-configure.php file which interferes with other Zen Cart mods (Google feeds and SEO mods in particular). The code I removed was not needed for the WOZ sideboxes to work standalone.. I’ve also removed any files that were only used for the WOZ blog embedding, and were also not needed for the WOZ sideboxes to work standalone.
I'm also gonna create a 'wp_posts' sidebox which displays the same content as your WordPress latest posts widget (I'll be creating this sidebox based on these two links: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/get_posts & http://www.dezinashop.com/demo/?p=4) Hira has code in the language files that implies that this sidebox exists, but it is not included in the WOZ files..
I have been giving some thought to packaging this up as an alternate add-on, or as an alternate install option in the WOZ app.. (Giving all credit to Hira of course..:clap:) It's another option that folks might wanna give a try..
Not to take anything away from Hira, but IMO a better method for blog embedding can be found here:
http://www.numinix.com/blog/2009/09/...n-cart-1-3-8a/
As of this writing, I have taken a quick glance at the instructions and supporting files provided by Numinix. Numinix's embedding/integration method would appear to work with my WOZ sidebox only method. However, in order to make this look aesthetically pleasing, I probably should disable the display of the blog sidebar on most of the blog pages while still being able to enable/display the WP widgets elsewhere. I believe some variation of this would work:
I will be editing the following files within my blog’s theme:
- index.php
- page.php
- single.php
- archive.php
- search.php
Within these files I’ll find and delete the following line:
Code:
<?php get_sidebar(); ?>
The sidebar will no longer display, while the WOZ sideboxes will continue to display. I could then continue to activate and use my WP widgets, but they will only display within the WOZ sideboxes.
I’ll be testing this over the weekend of course, but IMO this is a better solution for those who must embed WP content.. Best of both worlds IMO.. Again no disrespect to Hira, but I have never had good success getting the embedding portion of this module to work trouble free..

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
It seems to me that we are getting away from discussing WOZ here.
Most recent posts are instead discussing other methods of using WordPress together with Zen Cart.
That's fine, but really not what this forum topic is about. I don't think it helps the folks having issues with this mod.
Has anybody setup the version 1.4 of WOZ with zen and gotten it to work?

So I am clear, the majority of my recent post IS about using WOZ. I like the WOZ sideboxes, just not the embedding part.. too much work to get it to function, and I've expressed that before.. (and will probably continue to do so since I still feel that way..:smile:) Perhaps the rest was off topic, but there are other posts in this thread that also dance around that fine line as well (for example how to embed recent posts on the front page -- this is an often asked about topic and technically NOT part of WOZ..)
My point is that the posts in this thread really never stray that far from this mod. However, for a variety of reasons, historically it has been difficult and painful for many to resolve issues with this mod.. (a peek through this thread bears that out..) So naturally people look for alternatives and share them with the community.. I think that is helpful.. (It is after all how I figured out how to make a recent posts side box for this module) Pehaps these solutions are not helpful for you, but they might be for those who have decided for whatever reason that this module is not working for them. So I think sharing my WOZ sidebox only solution IS helpful.. If you believe otherwise, we'll have to agree to disagree..:smile:

I actually didn't read your previous post before I made my last post! No disagreement! I certainly was not including you in my general observation.
I was just noticing the trend of the postings of WOZ still not being ready for prime time. Now that v 1.4 is released and (maybe) the developer will stick around, we can make some progress on it.
I'm excited because I installed the new version and everything seems to work as advertised. But, apparently not for anybody else!
I have yet to see a zen site that leads to a separate install and template of WordPress that looks seamless. Gotta keep that "Checkout" link in view...

Not for nothing, but as cool as this module is, there has never been anyone to take the reigns of this project over for Hira.. In Hira's own words he cannot offer much in the way of support here or on his own site since there is a serious language barrier.. Unless we get a Japanese translator in here, those of use who use this app will continue struggling through supporting each other..

I share your excitement, but based on the posts since the release, alas I see this version is also suffering from issues as did the last version.. I'll do my own testing this weekend to form a better opinion on this, but the issue for me with this module has always been in the fact that this module doesn't install consistently.. The sideboxes have ALWAYS worked perfectly though (hence my posted sidebox only solution..)

Ahhhh IMO, seemless only comes from taking the time to make it seemless.. Not everyone will put in that extra effort.. It starts with styling the WordPress template to match the store's look and feel. and you have to get downright anal about it.. Look and feel aside, the MOST important aspect is tying the navigation between the store and the blog together.. The top and bottom nave should match as well as most other navigational elements.. I always include links back not just to the store's home page, but to the products, contact page, forms, and any other content that should be used to tie the store and the blog together to create a seemless experience..

The other WOZ sideboxes are not needed if the WP_sidbox displays WHATEVER* you assign in the widgets section of the Dashboard.
*OK OK (maybe)

Understood, but WOZ is doing some sort of re-writing to the links as they are not formatted the way the old WOZ links used to be formatted.
For example this: http : //berkautoguide . com/zen/index.php?main_page=wordpress
becomes this: http : //berkautoguide . com/zen/?main_page=wordpress
and this is different than the previous version of WOZ which did not re-write blog links like this..

I realize the other sideboxes are not needed if you are using the 'wp_sidebar' sidebox, but when I test software I test EVERYTHING even if I won't be using it to make sure everything works as expected.. So I was suggesting testing ALL the sideboxes to make sure they all work..

All boxes are now on, and using Classic template.
Only thing I'm seeing is that EZ-pages links will not show. I'm not quite getting your url example, do you mean the links are broken in wordpress?
OK. If I manually enter the url to an EZ page, I am seeing the title and breadcrumb links but a blank content area others mentioned in earlier posts.
http://berkautoguide.com/zen/index.p...id=1&chapter=0
So looks like a conflict there...

i had thought about doing the same, i just don't know if a sidebox does it justice. i also think many people would like to have pics visible for a more "seamless" integration, which also wouldn't squeeze into a sidebox in many instances. might keep a track of this thread if you're going to post updates as i believe what you are trying to do would be EXTREMELY beneficial for many users.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
tried to edit, but took too long.
that last bit sounded silly - wasn't really what i was trying to say. should have read like this:
i had thought about doing the same, i just don't know if sideboxes and the discrepancy between styles does it any justice. i had so much trouble dealing with conflicts in the stylesheets that i simply figured WP wasn't that hard to learn from the ground up and it was probably going to suit the customer better with the implementation we finished up with. i also think many people would like to see less of WP in their WOZ implementation and more of ZC in their WP implementation, as the money maker is ZC, while the traffic maker is WP, so looks aint necessarily that important with WP for a "seamless" integration.
will keep a track of this thread if you're going to post updates as i believe what you are trying to do would be EXTREMELY beneficial for many users, and i am now wondering about whether i should give it a crack.

At the risk of being blunt here, your client is more than stubborn, they are foolish :censored:.. It is preposterous to suggest to people that a 1280 wide resolution is the solution to THEIR site display problem.. The solution to their site display issue is to fix the sitee.. You are much better than me.. I would have let the client go before putting out a site that cannot be viewed across all browsers and resolutions.. Between the site performance and the screen resolution, they will LOSE customers.. Too bad they don't get that..

I found that it was WAAAAAY easier making my WordPress site look like my Zen Cart store than it was trying to get the embedding features of WOZ working.. So between the WOZ sidebox only implementation, and the addition of Zen Cart product links and navigational elements to my WordPress blog, I believe that I have been able to achieve a seemless transition between Zen Cart and WordPress. I'll share what I learn with the community as I make new discoveries..:D

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Wanted to share this for anyone who is thinking about trying this themselves. Using the Word Press Theme Generator, I created this theme: http://tinyurl.com/y8o95lo. I think this template will serve well for this embedding method. This template is fairly generic, and is configured so that the widgets are positioned below the main content section versus to the right or left of it. This is means that once the sidebar code is removed (as per the instructions below), you won't have to resize the center content to fill the page. (Since this template already does that..)
Also it should be noted that for the same reasons, this template (with the sidebar code removed) might be useful for those who are using WOZ to embed their blog.

"Recent Posts" Sidebox for WOZ
So after a little trial and error I managed to create a "Recent Posts" sidebox for WOZ. Hira's code has always eluded to this sidebox being there. (there were definitions in the language files for a "Recent Posts" sidebox). Seemed logical that this should be one of the included sideboxes.
I have attached the "Recent Posts" sidebox I created in case anyone else finds this useful. I may update the latest WOZ install files to include it and upload it to the downloads section..
At first I tried using the WordPress "get_posts" tag (http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/get_posts). Turns out that this code didn't work:
Code:
get_posts('arguments');
I ended up with a blank sidebox. So after a quick Google search I found these two sites:
The Easy Way To Display Recent Posts in WordPress
How to Display Recent Posts in WordPress
Both of these sites included instructions for two essentially idential methods to display recent posts. I often see folks asking about how to display recent posts on their store main pages.. So I thought these links might also be useful for this purpose.
However, for the "Recent Posts" sidebox, these posts were the hint I was looking for.. I chose the first method because.. well because I found it 1st..:laugh: However, I have tested both methods, and they both work. I included code for both in the "Recent Posts" sidebox code (one is active the other commented out) just in case someone (for whatever reason) decided they liked the other method better..
Hope someone else finds this WOZ sidebox useful..

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
So I bundled up my WOZ "sidebox only" solution. I've submitted it to the downloads section (as a seperate mod) and hopefully it will be approved and made available as an add-on. In the meantime, I'm uploading it here in case anyone else wants to use this WOZ "sidebox only" solution instead of the embedded WOZ solution.
I take no credit for the code.. This is Hira's code with a few tweaks (as outlined below), and any files/code that are only needed for embedding stripped out.
I found that using this WOZ "sidebox only" method eliminates the compatibility issues with WOZ and a number of other plugins (particularly SEO mods, XML sitemap mods, and the Google Merchant mods). Using the WOZ sideboxes alone resolved these compatibility issues for me.
Hope there are others who will find this useful..

I confirmed that I can indeed use the sideboxes from this mod if I run the blog as a seperate entity.. :clap: Wasn't a fluke at all.. Here's how (in BRIEF)
- Install WordPress (v2.7.x) in it's OWN directory -- you can use the same database where you have your Zen tables installed; just make sure that you use a table pre-fix to distinguish your WordPress tables from your Zen Cart tables
- Follow all of the install instructions for this mod with the exception of "Step 2" in the WOZ instructions. -- you may skip this step in it's entirety.. since you won't be embedding the blog, this step will cause problems later on. If you want, you can also choose to skip using Kiddo's change for v2.7.x since you won't be embedding the blog
Also since you will be running the blog as a seperate entity, you do not HAVE to use the default Word Press template that comes with WOZ. Therefore, you will not need the modified default template files included in this mod. So you can also skip the 2nd step of Step 3 in the WOZ instructions - Go to "includes/templates/template_default/sideboxes". Open all of the WOZ sidebox files and look for this line $content .= '<ul>'.$out.'</ul>';
Just above this line add this: $content .= '<div id="' . str_replace('_', '-', $box_id . 'Content') . '" class="sideBoxContent">';
This will format the WOZ sideboxes to look like your store's other sideboxes - Go to includes/modules/sideboxes. Modify the "wp_sidebar.php" sidebox as follows: Comment out this line "$title_link = 'wordpress';" (should be line 27, this is the code that creates the sidebox header link to the main blog page) -- again since you are not embedding the blog you won't need this link.
- Activate which ever WOZ sideboxes you want to use.
You'll of course need to skin your blog to match your ZenCart template. Some other suggestions for tying your WordPress blog to ZenCart include: (these are only a FEW suggestions, with a little imagination you can do a lot more)
- Using the WordPress "Links" widget and create links back to specific products or product categories
- Add links to your "Contact Us" forms, policies, & other Zen content.
- Create a menu identical to your EZ Pages menu in the header or footer of your Blog
Hope someone else finds any of my ramblings helpful..:laugh: Here's a link to a real working version of this in case anyone wants to see an example of this in action.. http://www.lanikshair.com

I get this.. but as a startup business myself, my only calling card is the work I have done.. So I want to make sure the work I do is work I can show to potential clients.. Please dont' take this wrong, but this site in it's current form isn't anything I would be able to show to a potential client.

Yep.. Styling a WordPress blog is pretty easy peezy..:smile:

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
you are so right regarding "examples of previous work". guess i hadn't given that side of things much thought (from a consumers point of view - i had thought about it from a developers point of view and was initially more worried about what my peers might say!).
fortunately (or unfortunately) the only clients i've dealt with since have not realised it due to their higher screen res, i guess it's the ones i haven't heard from that might be the silent majority.
anyway, thanks for your input : )

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Welcome back, Hira!
I hope to try integrating the new WOZ code by year-end 2009. I am especially excited about the new WP template since that will make the frequent WP updates a little simpler!
Thanks for the code update! Karen

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
ok, i have been at this for about 24 hours straight now, i finally have no errors, but not much is showing up ether.
here is the site
http://extendmydesign.com/zencart-pp/
just a very rough test by the way.
the info in the sideboxes is showing up, but when you click on the links, nothing loads, the same with the blog posts as well, nothing.
im thinking it is a setting or something i missed, could someone take a look at it and let me know?
your time and effort is much appreciated, thank you
Great mod by the way, just hope to get it working.

I think WOZ was developed on PHP 4 and as far as I know everyone having this issue is on php 5.

this looks like the same issue rewriting links does it not?
i'm no expert on this topic, but i noticed all your links include the the filename (/index.php?main_page=wordpress&...), but the resulting page i landed on does not (/?main_page=wordpress&...)

Some hosts allow 4 or 5 to be switched off/on in the site control panel. Might be worth a try ...on a test site...
Another quirk I noticed about the new version of WOZ is that in order to create EZ pages, you have to turn off the WOZ sidebox then create your EZ page. Only then did the page and the EZ page menu itself appear...After that you can turn on the WOZ sidebox

Apps developed in PHP4 should run in PHP5.. I haven't had a chance to test WOZ, but using only the sideboxes from this version, I don't have any issues..

has anyone else ran into this problem? i looked through about 40 pages yestarday. didnt find anything. ill keep looking today though, but if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
well, if both zen cart and blog install in the same directory, it works. and even i can quote wp front page in zen cart home page.(but have problem with www prefix, has to redirect).
i think this is not a working mod. please try numix solution which confirmed working.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Hello:
Zen Cart version : 1.3.8a
Word Press version is the current update
I've searched for an answer to my problem but found nothing.
I have Zen Cart installed in the root directory, Word Press is installed in ./blog/
I followed these installation directions to the letter despite Zen cart being in a /shop/ directory:
http://www.geraelindsey.com/zencart-...on-development
I changed the Blog URL (in Wordpress) to my Zen Cart installation in the root directory (ackleysrocks.com/). The side boxes are configured through Zen Cart administration and they function correctly, the breadcrumbs seem to work fine, but the blog post doesn't show up at all. We're using Wordpress as a "newsletter" with the archive listed on the right under Information. My intent was that the most recent blog post would load when the Newsletter link (EZ Pages) was clicked.
In EZ Pages I set the internal link as "?main_page=wordpress"
here's the site:
http://ackleysrocks.com
and the direct link to the blog
http://ackleysrocks.com/blog/
Any guidance in rectifying this configuration dilemma I have would be greatly appreciated. :)

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
If you are using the latest version of WOZ, you might need to check your install against the new install instructions. They are VERY different than the instructions in the blog you quoted which is almost a year old. (which means they pre-date the current version of WOZ)
I personally think that there is an issue with the latest version of WOZ that has little to do with the PHP version and more to do with there just being an issue with this mod.. Unfortunately Hira doesn't post here often and there is (by his OWN admission) a language issue with him being able to support this mod..

That's good advice about following the install instructions, however i have installed the mod on two servers running PHP 4 and I have a suspicion that php version may have something to do with :blank: posts.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
PHP version 5
I'll try the install directions in the readme file of the mod.
Those directions I followed were excerpted from the Zen Cart book by Suhreed Sarkar.
back to the drawing board, I guess....

Have you tested it using PHP5??? Respectfully I disagree with your assessment.. I really do not think that the (continuing) issues with this mod are as simple as PHP4 versus PHP5. The OLD version of WOZ ran under PHP4 or PHP5. However (as always) the embedding portion of this mod does not work as it should. IMO the issues with the new version are the SAME as the issues with the previous version..
- Does NOT work out the box as described
- Cannot be fully supported by the mod author (due to language issues).
I think the mod author is willing to work through the issues, but the language barrier prevents this from happening. Thus short of members of this community being able to get to the bottom of the issues, this mod will continue to be plagued with the same issues it has always suffered from. To be clear, the sideboxes for this mod work just fine.. It's the embedding functions that have never worked..
-

That's great that you've not had any issues installing this mod.. But clearly there is some sort of issue going on when there is one post after another where folks are reporting issues with this mod.. (and I have no doubt that the issue is not as simple as PHP4 versus PHP5) Based on the posts here it sounds like there is a consistent issue being reported with the new version (blank pages).
I long ago decided that the only thing I wanted from this mod is the sideboxes (they work all the time with no issues) so I have only tested those from the new version.. If I ever need an embedded blog, I'll probably use Numinix's method.. Maybe I'll load up the full mod this weekend on one of my test stores and see what's what..

Yes, and I am not seeing this error on the two installs I have done on PHP4 servers, and so far this seems to be the only clue as to "whats different" from my vantage point.
I'm trying to see if somebody out there can say "I have installed the new version of WOZ on a php5 server and I don't see this blank post issue".
Its possible that this is not the cause, but I don't know enough about the code to tell. There is always hope that someone in the community will take a look at the code and help us pinpoint THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE with the WOZ mod.

Logic says that this is likely not the issue since the PREVIOUS version of WOZ did not have any issues related to a specific version of PHP. So it is only logical that this would NOT be the issue with the never version. In fact it is MORE likely that IF the issue was related to the version of PHP running, that folks running this under PHP4 would be the ones with the issues..
For the record, Misty has already confirmed for you that he/she is running WOZ and has no issues with with it on a PHP5 server.

For the record, Misty said "never had problem installing WOZ". I don't know if that includes the blank posts issue or not.
I have mentioned several times that I have installed WOZ and it is working reasonably well on two different php4 servers except for the EZ pages conflict AND a conflict with the Shipping Estimator. Have not done a php5 install, hence my questions to the community.
I realize that this makes this mod not quite ready for prime time, but I'm hoping to continue testing and discussion on WOZ. Any Wordpress integration with Zen that takes a visitor to a site page that does NOT display their cart contents is unacceptable.
cheers!

We'll have to agree to disagree.. I'm pretty sure we can assume that when Misty said "never had problem installing WOZ when using either PHP4 or PHP5" it means the same as "never had problem with WOZ WORKING when using either PHP4 or PHP5"
Perhaps this was not enough confirmation for you, but it was for me..

Understood NOW.. Wasn't clear before (hence my question) Again, we'll have to agree to disagree.. Given that PHP compatibility issues have not historically been a part of this mod, and the likelyhood that IF the PHP version were the issue, I would think that it would be more likely a problem for PHP4 moreso than PHP5 installs. Therefore, I still do not think that this is the issue..

It may be unacceptable for you, but not everyone feels the same way.. So this isn't really an absolute as much as it is a different point of view..
Cart contents aside, it is plenty simple enough to include Zen Cart content within a standalone WordPress blog.. And there are other viable options for blog embedding for those who simply MUST have an embedded blog..
So while the sideboxes work fine using my WOZ sidebox only method, I'm gonna install the full module and test on one of my test stores.. I'll probably also test the Numinix embedding method too so I can compare the two..

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Hi,
Have upgraded to new version of wordpress with little idea of how the old one worked as I have just taken over a website that already had been integrated with it. Broke a few things which I have fixed BUT when clicking on the RSS Feed link in:
http://www.noahsark.co.uk/pages/2009...opening-times/
I get this which I am unable to fix:
http://www.noahsark.co.uk/pages/2009...ng-times/feed/
I have read all the obvious stuff about deleting white space etc
Your thoughts/help would be appreciated please?
Cheers

I used the numinix method, and was able to embed the blog into my zen cart. That's a relief!

I can't seem to access the admin login of Wordpress now however. Once I can do that I'll be game to give DivaVocals' tweak a try because the archives sidebox is a nice option to use.

At any rate, thank you all for your discussion on this. :)

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
I'm having a problem where after the standard install, I have everything integrated, but when I click on a wordpresss post or page, that opens by itself, NOT in a zen cart frame.
I'm using the newest installs of zen cart and wordpress. I threw it together quickly and installed them using fantastico, but I don't think that would make much of a difference.
I used this tutorial: http://www.joshdavisblog.com/2009/03...1/#comment-146
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
-
Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Ok, I fixed my problem from before, I had forgotten to change the blog URL.
Now that I have that fixed, I'm getting the blank page problem when I click on posts or pages from the sidebar.
-
Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
I tried the current version as well as the older version of the WOZ plugin, I tried it on my test host, as well as my bluehost accounts.
All tests result in the same results. I can get nothing but blank wordpress pages inside zen cart. I have seen others in the forum with this problem, but I didn't see a solution (maybe I missed it.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Two questions - are these accounts on PHP 5 and are you able to switch one of these accounts to use PHP 4?

Due to the language constraints, Hira's install instructions for this module are A LOT confusing (IMO). In reading them over though, here's what I found that I would double check:
1. Make sure your ABSPATH settings are correct.
In Hira's instructions he states:
Quote:
* Please access [URL to your WordPress]/check_path.php when you never understand a pass.
Dunno what this "check_path.php" file is, but it's NOT included in the WOZ files or in the WordPress files that I can see. The easiest way to check that your ABSPATH is correct is to find the absolute path in your Zen Cart includes/configure.php file. If your blog is in it's own directory, you simply append that directory to the end of the absolute path of your Zen Cart store. This is the path that you should have in your "ZC_ROOT/includes/extra_configures/wordpress-config.php" file.
2. Make sure you have re-named the "MY_TEMP" directory in the WOZ Zen Cart files to match your site's template directory name "ZC_ROOT/includes/templates/MY_TEMP/"
3. Make sure that the changes to your includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/html_header.php are correct. If your template does not have a common/html_header.php file, copy the one from the default template over to your template and make the changes.. DO NOT make these changes to the common/html_header.php file in the default template folder.
Lastly I noted one thing.. This section of the install instructions appears includes code which cannot be found in any version of WordPress from version 2.8.6 through present (2.9). I highlighted the questionable part of the instructions in red.
Quote:
--------------------------------
Adjustment after the installation
--------------------------------
Installation is completion, but I recommend that you adjust it as follows by the above.
In addition, it is a procedure in case of WordPress 2.8.6 as follows. Because there is the case that a point, methods are different in the other versions, please understand it beforehand.
a.[Root Directory of WordPress/wp-includes/canonical.php]
// trailing /index.php
$redirect['path'] = preg_replace('|/index.php/*?$|', '/', $redirect['path']);
TO
// trailing /index.php
//$redirect['path'] = preg_replace('|/index.php/*?$|', '/', $redirect['path']); // hack for woz
b.[Root Directory of WordPress/wp-includes/canonical.php] (* There are two lines)
return apply_filters('post_link', $permalink, $post, $leavename);
TO
return apply_filters('post_link', str_replace('/?', '/index.php?main_page=wordpress&', $permalink), $post, $leavename); // hack for woz
Not sure if you made these changes or if they are required changes or not (Hira's instructions aren't very clear on this..)

I'm using the newest installs of zen cart and wordpress. I threw it together quickly and installed them using fantastico, but I don't think that would make much of a difference.
I used this tutorial:
http://www.joshdavisblog.com/2009/03...1/#comment-146
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Josh's instructions are based on the previous version of WOZ.. Try reviewing the instructions for the current version of WOZ (they are different..), and compare your install to that..

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
So I've done some testing.. v1.3 of WOZ works fine with WordPress v 2.9 and Kiddo's fix on a vanilla Zen Cart install. (and for the record my host server is running PHP5)
Version 1.4 yields the same results everyone else has reported (blank posts). I am fairly certain that this issue has NOTHING to do with the PHP version and more to do with the nature of the code changes between the two versions of WOZ. In other words even IF the error only occurs on PHP5 (and some have reported that they do indeed have this running on PHP5), this is merely an unintended consequence.. I am fairly certain the author did not intend for this app to ONLY be run under PHP4. A logical conclusion since v1.3 runs fine on PHP4 or PHP5. Also more webhosts are migrating user accounts from PHP4 to PHP5 so it would make little to no sense to develop an app that woul not run on PHP5.
There are also unclear instructions in the readme: most notably the "Adjustment after the installation" section which contains instructions that requires code replacements for code that does not appear to exist. So I'm not completely sure whether or not this would make a difference in the modules performance..
I haven't done a full file by file comparison of the differences between the two WOZ versions. Two things that stand out between the two versions are the configuration file and the addition of a WOZ function file. Also the modifications to the /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/html_header.php is new. Don't know what would be causing the blank posts, but clearly it is in the parts of the code that changed in v1.4. Perhaps this weekend I'll do a file by file comparison between the two versions and post the full results here.. In the meantime I'm moving on to test other blog integration methods..
My suggestion for those having issues with the latest version of WOZ (v1.4) is to try uninstalling it and installing the 1.3 version.. You only need to uninstall the Zen Cart files.. Keep the WordPress files because the WOZ template for WordPress Hira created fro v 1.4 is PERFECT for an embedded blog (the WOZ template strips out all of the WordPress default template garbage)

Version 1.3 had problems as well, such as the posts links in the WP Sidebar not resolving correctly ('Post not found' error). I have an example install of zen 1.3.8a, wordpress 2.8.5, and woz 1.4 that works (http://berkautoguide.com/zen/) even though it does display some odd behavior, post links drop the index.php part of the url (but still resolve) , WOZ install interferes with EZ page display unless WOZ sidebox is turned off & on (EZ Pages create just fine), and the shipping estimator does not update (it does display correctly after you proceed to checkout then go back to Shopping Cart).
I do not have the blank posts issue. My thought is that PHP version might be the difference, but I don't know. I have not heard from anyone else getting some success on a php4 server, and as Diva mentions, hosts are moving to php5, but not without some softwares experiencing problems with their scripts.
I hope this gives somebody a clue as to what the solutions might be!
cheers!

As you can see this is not an issue on my test store..
Actually if you read through this support thread, I believe that I was the only one who reported the "Posts not found" issue. Because I could not resolve it on my two client sites I opted to use my sideboxes only solution.
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=639
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=640
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=643
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=644
So far I have not been able to replicate this particular issue on my vanilla Zen Cart/WOZ install.
I have also discovered since then that other mods may interfere with this module. (regardless of version) In the case of my two clients, I never fully resolved which modules interfered. The sidebox only solution was working just fine, so I stopped testing the source of the issue with embedding the blog.
I also know that regardless of which version of WOZ you use, WOZ does not work correctly using Simple SEO or Ceon SEO. I know this issue is related to some of the code in the WOZ configuration file.
All of this leads me to look for a better embedding solution. I like the WOZ sideboxes, but I think the rest of WOZ leaves much to be desired.. On to testing the Numinix solution..

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
I don't see Recent Posts in your Blog Sidebar, just Pages Archives & Categories.

Because I don't have that widget activated in WordPress.. The Blog sidebar as you are aware displays all of your active sidebar widgets.. In fact I don't have any widgets active, so WordPress displays a default sidebar. (which is what you see..)

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Then I don't see how you can say it is not an issue in this installation.

Because it's NOT an installation issue.. This isn't an issue at all.. THIS is how WordPress works..
The WOZ Blog sidebar only displays the contents of the WordPress sidebar. When you install WordPress and do not activate any widgets in the sidebar, WordPress by default displays a generic sidebar (which is what you see on my test site). If I were to activate widgets in Wordpress, the default WOrdPress sidebar would be replaced by the widgets I activated, and as a result the WOZ blog sidebox would display those widgets..
You don't see the recent posts in the blog sidebox because I haven't activated the recent posts widget in WordPress.. Like I said this is NOT an installation issue.. I simply haven't configured WordPress to display any widgets so the default sidebar is displayed instead.

I understand that.
What I am addressing is the "Post not found" issue that occurs when you click on a link to a POST in the WOZ WP-sidebar. You don't have any links to posts in your sidebar!

Your previous posts weren't clear on what you were asking..
I added some widgets to the sidebar.. As you can see the there are no "Post not found" errors..

Agree totally with Diva's post at

Tested extensively today, latest zencart with Woz 1.4 and Word Press 2.9, using PHP 5.29.
This mix does not integrate correctly with zencart.
Using Latest zencart/WordPress 2.9 with WOZ 1.301 does...

Sorry for my lack of clarity.
This is a test install is WOZ 1.3 and zen 1.3.8?
I think you said that you tried WOZ 1.4 and Zen 1.3.8 and was getting the blank post issue, that is, the breadcrumb links would appear, but not the post content below them?

Yes and yes.. Also as I stated in my earlier post (http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...postcount=1076) I am using the latest version of WordPress (v2.9)
My conclusion is this:
WOZ v1.4 is buggy and simply does not work. NO ONE should be using this module unless you are ready and able to troubleshoot and correct the issues with this module yourself
MY Recommendations???:
Here's a thread that discusses all the various blog embedding options. http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144224
Frankly the only thing I will probably continue to use from this module are the sideboxes. Even if v1.3 works, it falls to hell in a handbasket when I apply any SEO module to it.. I know that the key to the conflicts with WOZ and SEO modules lies in the code that is in the WOZ configuration file. (I'm just not sure what the correction to the code should be)
I will continue to monitor this thread, and try testing things here and there, but frankly IMO there are BETTER methods for embedding blogs that don't require this much hammering to work. I wish Hira could help, but sadly that doesn't seem to be a reality.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Posting additional testing results from my test WOZ store. As before ANY blog posts dated AFTER the initial blog posts will throw the "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria." error.
So here's the full description of the behavior:
Day 1:
Admin A adds 2 posts to the blog
Admin B adds 2 posts to the blog
All posts appear in recent posts, the blog front page, the category listings
Day 2:
Admin A adds posts to the blog
Admin B adds posts to the blog
While these posts will appear in the recent posts list, they will not appear in the archives, main blog page, or in the category listings. If you click the link to any of these posts from recent posts, you will get the "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria." error.
Examples:
Posts from Day 1 (12/29/2009)
Posts from Day 2 (12/30/2009)
Conclusion:
There are still issues with v1.3 of WOZ. If I were to change the settings in Wordpress to set the "Blog address (URL)" to match the actual blog location versus my Zen Cart folder (as is required to get the posts to embed in Zen Cart versus opening in their own window), then all the links work as they should. This leads me to conclude that this issue is ALSO related to something being incorrect with the WOZ configuration file.
This issue in particular is WHY I came up with a method to use ONLY the sideboxes from this module. So again for me, I will continue to use the WOZ sideboxes (they DO work without embedding the blog), but the embedding features of WOZ do not work consistently.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
Diva....so to clarify you have never been able to successfully install/embed WOZ into zencart as per test site at
http://www.dezinashop.co.uk/?
which uses only woz install and sideboxes included in woz zip?
-
Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
If this is a stock install of WOZ 1.3 or 1.4 and Zen 1.3.8 at dezinashop.co.uk I wonder if PLACEMENT of the WP Sidebar makes a difference, i.e right sidebar as opposed to left sidebar, and having WP links to posts below pages links?

Should not make any difference at all...install is latest zencart
with Woz 1.301 'cos woz 1.4 just does not work correctly.

Yes that is exactly what I am saying.. I NEVER had any success embedding a blog using WOZ. I no longer use the blog embedding for my two clients which is why I put up the test site to demonstrate clearly the issue that I was having..

I'm not clear on what you are asking/saying here.. If you are asking if the placement of the sidebox (left side versus right) makes a difference. Then the answer is yes it appears that when the blog sidebox is placed on the right side (versus the left) ALL posts in my test store will display versus the Day 2 posts throwing the "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria." error.
I wonder if the blank posts error present in v1.4 would be affected by the sidebox placement..
Misty.. can you try this on your store and see if you get the "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria." errors that I was getting in my test store..
Conclusion: This is not acceptable behavior. Not all site designs use both left and righ columns and some do not use the right column at all.. This means there is STILL a number of issues with this mod that will cause errors. Couple that with the SEO compatibility issues, and this module is only PARTIALLY viable IMO..

Tested..sideboxes tried both right and left sides...no problems
encountered...
The only time had problems with woz was when installing WordPress into
different directory to zencart, so since then
always use following method...
Install zencart first, with own seperate database...TEST...
then install
Wordpress into same root/directory as zencart, uploading all WP files.
Temporarily RENAME ZENCART INDEX.PHP file FIRST
or it will be overwritten by wordpress index.php file.
WordPress has seperate database to zencart...
Get wordpress working on its own, testing admin functions/posting functions...
Rename WordPress index.php file and reinstate zencart index.php
Then add WOZ 1.301...following Hira's instructions..
Suggestion.. always have ZenCart using Classic Template when installing
wordpress/woz ...

If you take a look at my test store, you can see that (oddly) everything is working as it should once I moved the sidebox to the right side..

In all of my previous testing it never mattered whether WordPress was installed in it's own directory or a seperate directory, had it's own database or shared a database, the result was ALWAYS the same as I posted in my previous posts.. (which is why for this round of testing I didn't try any of these alternate installs..)
I'll try what you suggest later today on this test store, and post my results here..
However, I'm also gonna test the Numinix embedding this weekend too to compare.. (which IMO seems like a better less troublesome solution) All this head banging to get THIS module to work may be for nothing IMO. There are still compatibility issues with this module and other modules (SEO, and Google Feeder modules come to mind)

Code:
RewriteRule . index\.php?main_page=wordpress&%{QUERY_STRING} [L]

OK, had to make one more change...
HACK ALERT!:unsure:
WordPress kept overwriting my .htaccess file regardless of what write permissions I set. So I had to go into the blog/wp-includes/rewrite.php file and comment out a couple of lines. Here they are:
Code:
} else {
//$rules .= "RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f\n" .
// "RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d\n" .
//"RewriteRule . {$home_root}{$this->index} [L]\n";
}
This prevented Wordpress from printing out the incorrect ReWriteRule to my .htaccess file. Not pretty, but it worked.

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
I am using Zencart 1.3.8a and trying to get mod working for WordPress.
I am ok with sideboxes linking to my Wordpress site. As long as I can link from WordPress back to my site.
I am following WordPress 1.4 hira.
*I installed WordPress via my host control panel to zen-cart root where admin and includes reside. WP 2.9
*Uploaded all WP_ROOT files to WordPress root directory on server.
*Changed settings in WordPress Admin
*Looked at another post for ABSPATH to work
*Uploaded ZC_ROOT files to Zencart root.
*I am having problems with includes/templates/MYTEMP/common/html_header.php
When I insert code into end of file before </head> my site main page has WordPress on it and messes up page. I can see part of Wordpress behind site.
<!-- for woz BOF -->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php bloginfo('stylesheet_url'); ?>" type="text/css" media="screen" />
<link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo('pingback_url'); ?>" />
<?php if ( is_singular() ) wp_enqueue_script( 'comment-reply' ); ?>
<?php woz_wp_head(); ?>
<!-- for woz EOF -->
</head>
Then when I go to http://www.burnerbooks.com/index.php...page=wordpress I just get home page without main column.:frusty:
site is www.burnerbooks.com
I see WordPress in http://www.burnerbooks.com/blog/
WordPress 2.9

Re: Wordpress On Zencart / Released
I'm about to attempt integrating the Wordpress Mod with Zencart. Have read through many of these posts and saw that some moderators said some of the install guides people used were out of date and to use the latest install guide. But there was no link to it. Can someone provide me a link to the latest install guide please?
Also, saw some posts about Kiddo's fixes or mod to install after WordPress? Where could I find information about his fixes? Is it just in this forum that I missed? And, as of today, maybe those fixes our in the latest WordPress Mod?!?
Thanks in advance!
