When you successfully upload the easy populate file you compiled, all your products will be added to your catalog. You might then proceed to add attributes. If uploading doesn't work for you, you might want to try importing which is what I am doing. I hope this helps.
I need step by step instructions on how to use easypopulate. I purchased the advanced version and paid for installation, which has been completed. But I have NO IDEA how to use the module.
Any advice appreciated from you wonderful gurus, as always.

There should be a readme.txt file included when you purchased the advanced easy populate. In brief, you go to admin > Tools > Easy Populate to download a data template, for example Store. This file contains all the necessary fields to be filled out. Once your file is ready (saved as tab delimited file), upload or import the file in admin > Tools > Easy Populate.

I can't afford to buy EP advanced so I installed the older version.
Is there a limit to how much data could be moved to db with EP?I have 6500+ products I wish to add.
I tried to do it manually but that won't work with so many products so I got a pricelist in excel, that I've adapted into a products table with all fields Zen Cart uses in the SQLdb of my project, except I haven't had time to order them or do the pictures yet. My table puts all products in 1 category right now. I will build the category structure to get those category_ids sorted in the table for each product, because organizing those 6500+ products is most tideous and inefficient. Also, all products have the same image now, since I haven't had time to make more than a few hundred pics yet.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I use the EP v2_75 and I am making a multilingual site with finnish,german,english and swedish, so my descriptions list goes up to 25000+
My question is basically about the maximum amount of products that can be imported wit EP!?

I am using advanced XML converter to convert xml to csv, works very well.
As far as I am aware No, as in the ep file it states \t at present, could you pm a sample of your xml file ?
Hello, I am trying to import over 2000 items from a distributor. I have formatted the TSV file correctly, however it is only adding about 93 items. Even by splitting the file, it seems only certain items can be added. Are there limitations with Easy Populate Advance2.76d-mod3a Zen-Cart 1.3.x such as unusable characters, description lengths, etc? Thank you for your reply. Not to add confusion, but csv has become an ambiguous term where it originally was for comma separated values and tsv was used for tab separated values. Also, they are unique model numbers and EOREOR is at the end of every column. All columns line up correctly, and I tried easy populate with file split configured at 300 products. I have additional information which might help for those interested. A portion of my file is available at http://www.silverfoxunlimited.com/easy_populate_tsv.txt The first item model 5001 (which appears far down the file with several similar items before it which do not add) adds correctly where the next one does not. This is my first post, and first time I'm working with zen cart software.

But I have a little problem. Although upload of new products and update of the DataBase is completely successful, I always get this massage at the end of the report: No model field in record. This line was not imported.
I'm thinking that maybe easy populate reads one more row after the last product and produces this massage for it.
Should I worry about this massage.

The website for Easy Populate Advanced support seems dead. I have 2 questions hopefully someone is able to give advice.
1. How do we import multiple product images for each product? At the moment, I only know how to insert one image for one product using EPA.
2. I have a product which I want to put in a second category. Usually I do this by copying the product as "Link Product" so that when I make changes to the product in the first category, the same product in the second category will be updated. How do I use EPA to do this?

For additional Images :-
- laptop.jpg
- laptop_backview.jpg ( add '_****' to the image name of the product for additonal Images)
- laptop_sideview.jpg
And ftp these to your server in the right images folder.
2. Not with EP 1.2.5.4, don't know with EP Adanced
Not sure about easy populate advanced but with standard EP if you copy all the information to a new row in the spreadsheet with the exact same model number and change just the catagory, EP will insert it as a linked product making the original entry the master.Quote:

For some reason, my EP tab delimited did create the right categories groups from the list file, but no products were ever added to the DB.
Same file without categories worked earlier, but it crashed every product in the main category, or whatever the category which holds the categories is called.
Once I edited and sorted some products out in the list to see if it would sort them out the right way ( I have categories depth of 3, and I removed the products from DB in between so as not to duplicate them, though EP is supposed to replace them[!?!] ) and uploaded, it created the right product groups and product subcategories under my first categorie (manufacturer/provider), but it didn't add any products.
It looked like it was working properly, but at the last line of my list it says

Anyways, I consulted with my father (whose shop I'm building) and we decided to leave those for later, so now I have added a couple other manufacturers with less than 100 products manually, because of my frustration at EP.
Still the 6500 products are waiting in my lists and backed up lists till I have edited the content and layout. Also, I wonder if the multilinguality of the shop will affect EP, or if it will just add the product description as they are into the default language (my case finnish) without being affected by my having 3 or 4 descriptions for each?
kairen - the usual problem with EP issues is the user is just not importing the right data in the right columns.
If you could attach a file example or an example of a row this would help us...
the most common issue is that the model number/ref has to be unique to that one product.
The best way to test any imports is set up a product in Zencart add attributes etc and then download the complete file and the attribute file and then open them in OO or Excel and see the structure/format. Then just copy the first product row as an example and add additional products ( with unique model ref's) and then import and I would put money on it it would just work great (Version 1.2.5.4 and 3 )

Why am I only seeing two items?

Q. After uploading I find only a few records uploaded correctly, and there are a few others with a number of records all in the last field. What happened?
A. Did you remember to place EOREOR on the end of each row/record?
Tip: You may want to turn off "Text delimited with quotes" in both your spreadsheet (i.e., Excel and Open Office Calc) and the database you are using. May I suggest the tide "~" symbol if you must use something as a text delimiter (i.e, you have a few commas , single or double quotes, in your description, and want to preserve them). The tide symbol can be stripped off and out as needed. If, for example, you import a great amount of data using the LOAD DATA INFILE command in MySQL you can use the option FIELDS OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '~' to remove it.
Tip: See the above post for an updated sql script for installing on systems that use MySQL version 5.x
About me: I have used, and modified, version 2.75 in the past. I have downloaded, but not installed, version 1.2.5.4 If people are interested I can download a copy of 2.75 from my site (computer crashed so I don't have a local copy), and post it here. I have been playing with computers for over two decades. I understand some coding, and can do a bad, yet working, hack if I have to, just don't ask me to re-work Zen Cart for your needs . I will take a fresh look at both EP versions and see what I can do to make them more user friendly, or at least create instructions on how you can do it yourself (a DIY guild if you will). Again, this may not be for a while as I have my daytime job and then my two web sites to worry about.
seems so clear now...thx.... I guess the mistake is that I thougth the v-products_model was like a product number and put the REAL model as model number, but it contains letters so it won't work that way?

Alright - I feel like an idiot. I've looked through all of this information and also AWEV's information. I need/would like to add and upload category to EP free for the product's cost. I have the profit calculator module installed and would like to use EP to populate the DB. I've tried a number of times but can't seem to get it to work. Has anyone done this or can anyone assist me with it? The table is the products table and the field is products_cost.

Is it possible to specify the downloadable file associated with a product via Easy Populate? I've looked through all the csv files Easy Poplulate will download for me and I don't see it. I have 650 mp3 products/files, and if they have to be done one by one I may just have to assume a fetal position for a while.
If this is part of the paid version only, I would definitely upgrade.
As this is my first post, I should have started out by saying thanks very much for Easy Populate. It would be unthinkable for me to be able to start my store without it. Seems like it should be integrated functionality, IMHO.

I got a data base from my vendor he uses the same version of Zencart I do I have version 3.03 advanced of easy populate and everytime I try to upload to zencart I get this error I am having problems with easy populate when I try to import the file to populate my website I get the following error(s)

I've uploaded about 1300 products to the DB using EP, but I just realized that I don't have product SIZE options in EP or in Zen Cart itself.
How can I integrate product Sizes in Zen Cart, and can I upload product sizes by EP ?

goldencountry - It sounds as if your .txt file has not got the right format of 'tabs' just upload one product to see if you get the same message if so check your file format, if you are using the advance version also try the authors forum as this version does work slightly different to 1.2.5.4. (Edit BTW only upload approx. 500 max products at once EP is very happy with this number any more it gets a little upset !)

Another one. My prices uploaded end up being after tax instead of price of the product before tax.
Any ideas? Did an admin switch get changed? I do upload the goods with the field v_tax_class_title = Taxable Goods.

** It is recommended that you download a file 1st and use this as a template for your uploads (install should do this for you..)

I found another problem with ZC and MySQL 5, which is fixed by turning off strict mode in MySQL. Comment out the sql-mode line in your my.ini and restart mysql.

This also fixes the problem with Easy Populate.

Reagarding to the product description.. I tried to upload some product descriptions in HTML language, but easy populate wouldn't accept it until I deleted all the spaces between the HTML codes and text.

Just an update regarding to my second question: I found out that using notepad++ and in the end join lines (so all the HTML is on one line) solve the problem and easy populate is accepting the product.
I just don't understand this error message.....
YairOz - Its the usual test I would start with, if you have products in your zencart, do a complete download, open that in excel or OO (Do not use Notepad as you will not get the right file format to import (which is a TAB sep file )) remove all the products expect the header row and one row (one product) save this and try and upload to zencart via Easypop.
See if this gives you any errors and work from there .
By the looks of your error it is EP is struggling to find the string separater ('Empty delimiter') and it is just seeing the whole file as a string.

One question? which version are you using as the more I think about this it doesn't seem version 1.2.5.4 with the name of the above file, 1.2.5.4 which is the proven version. I know there are some new versions in the download section but I think they a little buggy, search this thread for links to the down of version 1.2.5.4 if you are not using it.

YairOz - My advance would be contact the seller (There is a forum on this Version on the website ) and seek advice from them, as it may be a issue with that version. As this version is a rewrite of the Easypopulate and works different to the free version as the file structure is different.

I'm about to reach for a pistol because I cannot find an answer to something that has been troubling me for several days...
I simply want to be able to populate 'Document General' items under a 'Document General' category with EP.
By this I mean a products_type 3 that are NOT for sale. I have a 'Doc-Gen' category all set up as an image gallery and it works fine as long as I add items manually. When I add them via EP it forces the items as 'Product General' and therefore they all have the 'add to cart', 'sold out', etc verbiage as if they were for sale.
I do not see a field labelled 'v_products_type' in the standard EP spreadsheet. Is it possible to add it and if so does it have to be in any particular place?
I'm sure this has come up before but I am having no luck doing it. Is there a way to do this or can anyone help me think of a way to trick it into working?

Assuming you don't have to many records to modify & you're comfortable with phpMyAdmin (if you have it on your server) you could do something like the following:
In easy poplulate pick a field you don't need or can modify without consequence & put a unique piece of data there as a marker for each record you want to modify (like a quantity of 5555 or unique date in a date field, etc). Then go to phpMyAdmin & in the products table search for all records with the unique item you entered & change the document type for all those records.
Kind of a round-about way but it'll git'er done.

Hi there, thanks for responding. This would work however I need to add just under 500 items initially then add 10-12 here and there. The 10-12 added periodically could be entered manually which bypasses my problem but I wonder about adding the first 500 via EP then running a update query which searchs for all items in category 'My Collection' and changes the products_type from 1 to 3?.Quote:

robinstl - If you have a unique ref to these products yes a sql script would do the job, what you need to do is test it out on your test shop/store first. Then when you are happy with that,as always backup... backup... and then try it on your live store.

I am having a problem. I have downloaded and installed Easy Populate successfully. So here is the problem I am having.
I have some files from the distributors, that were not in Easy Populate format, so what I did is add some categories and then products, then did a complete export so I can see where I needed to cut and paste the things I had from the distributors. In doing so, I noticed my exports had no "Categories" and when I did cut and paste, and imported the products, it was successfull, but no products show up! Any help would be appreciated or if someone can point me to a file I can use as a "template" that would be great!

i have the free version of langer's easypopulate mod installed on my site. I managed to get the products up but for some reason i cant get the attributes file to import properly. When i upload the file, it says that the product is updated. For example,

wickerman - Your problem is that you cannot have different values in the options_names columns - v_attribute_options_name_1_1 they have to be all the same....
See attached example file do not import this as it is not the full file just an example, the best way is download a attributes file and open that and you should see the same stucture. You have to insert a value of +0.000 or higher/lower in v_attribute_values_price columns to make the attribute status live.Quote:

and you set them on or off by giving a value to the v_attribute_values_price column. If you set that column to +0.000 it shows the attribute with the product at the price setup in the product details, and if you set v_attribute_values_price to +1.500 it adds 1.50 to the basic price like wise you can set it to a minus figure as well. I think you haven't got to grips with the attribute concept, and you are using EP to change the settings before you understand how attributes work.
CnTGifts - Don't know anything about EPA Authors situation, usually he is helpful as you can see looking back at this thread, do remember Zencart is fully automatic and works with out human hands so of cause you can still pay for downloads and you get the files even if the author does look at his pc for weeks, whats your issue, we maybe able to help but cannot promise.
PriestB - I think you are talking about merging data supplied by your suppliers to EP format, you would need to write a script to merge it automatically other wise you need to do a little/alot of cutting and pasting in OO or excel.
when you buy the mod your buying 1 years support, hes aprantly to busy to supply 1 day of support

Ok, so i managed to correct the errors you told me about and i uploaded the file, the fields get but updated but not as expected. I am uploading both the file i uploaded(attrib.txt) and the EP generated file after the upload(Attributes-EP2007Dec24-1604.txt). Is this because all the values in v_attribute_values_name have to be the same? Thanks again for all the help.
Hi All I searched High and low for this but found nothing. So here is my problem I added all my items using EPA and as always it went in with no problem, but now I wanted to add a new product and it came back with this ID 2147483647 I know this is the magic number for the end or last product
so when I went to add one more product this popped up

I downloaded my store with EPA and the last Item # was 2147483647
the one before that ID number is 98378 any Ideas how to reset this?
when I go into Tools/EPA/ the Index Mode: products_id it says
Next products table id: 2147483647 how do I reset that back to 98379?

In Answering my own question I did a search for 2147483647 on my sql server and got a bunch of matches the one where I fixed the problem was in 1 match(es) inside table products_to_categories I changed 2147483647 to 1Quote:

tonysebay - instant downloads are set via your Conf->Attribute Settings > Downloads Controller Order Status Value Lower/Higher
You would have to write a SQL query to insert the download file links as EP does not include these...
EP and EPA work slightly different in their file structure so I don't know if file downloads are part of EPA really you should be using EPA forum on the authors website as he/users of that can advise you better!

wickerman - Sorry missed your post
the zip file looks fine and should upload without any problems, your problems you are seeing is because you haven't got your attributes setup properly if you use the attrib.txt file, you are not seeing it in the way they work ( Do not use the attrib.txt file as this is wrong)
Every time you up load a new attributes file and if you have changed any of the attribute entry headings it will change them in the dbase, that why you are struggling, so it is getting conflicking details in the attribute values as they have to be the same for all products as they are unigue to that attribbute not product.
I am thinking you need to look at attributes again set them up in Zencart first and use the download files to edit first and you will win that way.(don't create file yourself use the file supplied and just a the price to the attribute to product)
As far as I am aware you are not limited to the qty of attributes so you can have as many as you like as long as they are unique, the only downside is that you will struggle if you excede 256 columns as excel and OO cannot cope with this, this is a problem I am trying to get around myself but a option is CVSed see earlier posts in this thread for the download links
ok attempted an install. Copied all files and folders, checked permissions. It is now installed.
I have 4 easy populate's under my configuration tab...
How to I get rid of these? is this a database issue and if I restore will I need to run the install again?
Ok final it has been installed and working properly...
Although I attempted to install this numerous times and now have 7 total Easy Populates under my admin configuration tab. Can anyone advise me how to remove these???
On another note the file looks perfect for my needs and even includes the custom tags for my product descriptions!!

You upload content of those folders into equivalent folders
of your zencart install..

cudaboy71 - (Edit - Sorry miss read your post),each product has a unique ref check your database for any errors or products that have not been deleted properly.
Reno - Use version 1.2.5.4 from modhole as this is a proven version the others are new or old versions which are buggy(Unless you are good at php and want to fault find). Install that version and then download the different files and you will see how EP works, its quiet good really:clap:

I'm still having a problem understanding what the above means. does the admin folder (which i renamed to easypopulate) go inside the zen cart admin or inside the admin includes? or am i supposed to break it up and put the easypopulate.php file inside the admin and the easypopulate/includes folder inside the admin/includes folder. and it seems from the directions that the temp folder is supposed to go in the root. If someone could just tell me the to path each file/folder after it's placed in the zen cart that would be great. Thank god for forums!Quote:

admin/easypopulate.php this goes in your Zencart files as => admin/easypopulate.php
admin/includes/boxes/extraboxes/easypopulate_tools_dhtml.php this goes in your Zencart files as => admin/includes/boxes/extraboxes/easypopulate_tools_dhtml.php
etc. etc. etc.
so in your Zencart files you would then have these files in admin/includes/boxes/extraboxes/

Buy e-Start Your Web Store with Zen Cart and you will start to understand this better, and don't try this on your live store, as you need to do a little more work understanding how Zencart and php works.
Scrat you are a life saver! I don't know why I thought the files needed to stay in the configuration they were in. I kept thinking it was like a wordpress plugin. Boy was I wrong. I'm going to buy the book asap. I actually meant to do it last night but all the comments I found on it said it didn't offer any help with easy populate, so I put it off. But I'll do it now. These are not imported via EP, so all the sub cats. will also have to be edited manually as well.
As for products not showing up to edit, thats got me :blink:

When you import them do you get a error or does EP state the product is up dated, new...
We need to know what it is giving as a result of the import, are you giving each product a unique model ref/number as they have to unique
Going on from that if EP says inserted/updated and they still donot appear use myphpadmin to see if they appear in the dbase and report back.
Further usually by default Zencart disables out of stock products so if your stock is set to zero the product will not appear, you can change this in
>Conf.>Stock
Lets us know how you get on...
Personnel note:-
One last thing I would do is turn off your product dated added as you are now showing goods that are a year old, I know they may not change but its not really relievent if they are this old
