Google Base Feeder v.1.7.0 09.019.2008 17:38:59 started 2009/02/05 21:10:06
Feed file - /home/poppy/public_html/fed/GOOGLE_FROOGLE_OUTPUT_FILENAME_products.xml
Processing: Feed - No, Upload – No
and there is no feed created.
any ideas as to what my issue. i seemed the remember when i first added base, i got the same message, but i cant remember how i get the feed to create.
thanks in advance
I upgraded to 1.7.3 but the feed now generates errors.
Processed: 232
Inserted: 173
Before, with 1.7 it worked just fine. What changed so it gives me now encoding errors?
For now I restored db and uploaded 1.7 files again and resubmit the feed. We will see now....
Yep, 1.7 works without errors. No encoding errors anymore and all products are accepted. Sorry to say but 173 seems to have some issues, at least for me. Great mod otherwise, very important for business...
Hi, first I would like to Thank Numinix for his excellent work and contribution to the zencart community!
Here comes my question. I've installed google base feeder and it works great! I'm wondering, since I've downloaded your ebay and amazon exporter too, do I need to run the SQL patch again if I want to install ebay and amazon exporter?
Many thanks again!
Can anyone recommend someone to tell me what I am doing wrong?
I have not received any feedback for what is probably a really simple problem, so I guess I need to bring money into the equation.

All of the admin files are intact
I need to get this working by tomorrow afternoon, so whatever it takes..
Rastabloke: you must be missing some files. Did you check if every one of them is up on your server? Maybe one of them failed?
Do you have the googlefroogle.php in your root folder? This one gets overlooked if you just upload the directories. Happend to me before when I upgraded. Just check everything. If all files are in the right place, it should show up under tools.
I appreciate the response, but I have re-downloaded GBF and re-uploaded the files many times.
Here is a screen shot. As you can see, the googlefroogle.php file that was in the root of the GBF files, is now in the root directory... And all of the files are there.
I am about ready to throw in the towel, the amount of times I have posted the same question makes me feel that I am spaming the forum.:lamo:
I understand your frustration. Sometimes there is no common solution. I found when I have a problem that nobody else seems to know about, I start with a fresh zen cart test installation. Then add the mod in question and see if the same problem persists. Then go from there...step by step.
Are permissions on your output folder (/feed) set to to 777?
You might also try deleting the feed file from that folder and then generate a new one after correct permissions are set on output folder.
Hello,
We are using the Google Base Feeder and we are receiving the following from Google regarding our feed.
**Keep in mind that when we were using the previous feeder before upgrading to this newest version - we did not have these errors from Google. The following is the discussion we had with Google**

Hello,
Thank you for your email. I've reviewed your data feed and noticed the following errors:
Some of the items in your data feed have expiration date values that are too large. Currently, the expiration date attribute may not contain a value that exceeds the default expiration date for your item type. For example, product listings will expire 30 days from the posting date, even if the expiration date is set farther in the future. To ensure that your items remain active, we recommend updating your feed at least once per week. Please visit http://base.google.com/support/bin/a...er=30013&hl=en for a full list of item type expiration limits.
Further, some of the items in your file are failing because your feed contains unsupported characters. For example, certain white space characters, such as tabs, may not process correctly and will result in a feed failure. To correct this error, please remove all unsupported characters from your feed and upload your file again.
Additionally, any items that are missing required attributes will no longer process successfully. Items missing recommended attributes will still process successfully, however, we strongly suggest you include information about those attributes if possible. For example, you haven't included descriptions for some of your items. If your items don't contain a description, please include the title of the item in the description field for the item to process successfully.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Brighty

Hi there,
Last time I took a look at the feed it showed that it processed but many items were not included due to errors. We did not ever have any errors in the past except one time. We wrote to Google and they told us they changed something in what "encoding" would be accepted and it worked from that point on ...... until now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Any thoughts?Quote:
Hello,
Thank you for your email. As informed earlier, the reason a few items from your file are failing is because your feed contains unsupported characters. For example, in the description for the item titled 'Iomega 1GB JAZ Drive (External SCSI) for PC & MAC' there are certain white space characters, such as tabs and symbols such as '™' which may not process correctly. These will result in a feed failure. To correct this error, please remove all unsupported characters from your feed and upload your file again.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

JLA: I had the same problem after I upgraded to 1.7.3
Processed: 232
Inserted: 173
My solution was to revert to 1.7 and now I do not have any errors.
What version are you using?
Per one of our last posts - this is what Google wrote to us why the items were unable to be processed. We did not have this problem before and these item descriptions have not changed.

Sure, I had problems with my feed with special characters just like this. When You edit an item with a WYSIWYG editor like FCK or htmlarea all special characters are saved as the character itself. Like the copyright symbol © or a superscript TM
You will need to edit your item with the TEXT only option and use the ascii code equivalent and save it.
Unfortunately every time you edit these items with a wysiwyg editor it will replace the ascii codes with the special character. I opted to NOT use them at all and saved the hassle.

You do Not upload the "google_base_froogle_feeder_1-7-0a" folder, just the stuff in the "google_base_feeder" folder like:
admin
feeds
includes
numinix_version
googlefroogle.php
into your sites Zen Cart root folder.
Make sure that the file googlefroogle.php is in the same folder that your root index.php is in.
You do NOT need to upload the sql_updates folder or any of the .sql .txt or .html files.

Hey Thanks for all of your hard work. I read through the first 20 or 30 posts, looked at the mod description and all the files in the zip and didn't see an answer for this quick question.
Does this mod upload the Sale Price, Specials Price or only the base Retail Price?
Thanks, I told you it was quick.

Judging from this:
You haven't patched your database...PHP Code:
GOOGLE_FROOGLE_OUTPUT_FILENAME_products.xml
Here is the detailed information from Google on the errors with the feed. Keep in mind, none of these item description have had ANY changes made from when they were working before with the uploaded. It has only been since this upgrade does google have a problem with the feed.
This is the error log they provided

By "Patching" your database they mean to install the SQL required in the instructions.
Open the file googlefroogle.sql in a text editor like Windows notepad.exe
In your ZenCart admin open Tools/Install SQL Patches
Copy the contents of googlefroogle.sql and paste into the box in your ZenCart Admin
Click Send
wagnerguy: did you have to merge any documents? Somehow I remember empty characters at the end screwed things up before... just a thought.
Anyone that is receiving data feed errors after upgrading to 1.7.1 please read:
As best I can tell, there was a shift in how special characters are handled in the includes/classes/googlebase.php file. Around line 169 there is a function called "google_base_xml_sanitizer".
I copied over some of the older scripting that did work for me and now my function looks like this:
It's a little bit of a hack job but it works for me. I hope the author will see this and look into it because I love this addon! :clap:Code:function google_base_xml_sanitizer($str, $cdata = false) {
$_strip_search = array("![\t ]+$|^[\t ]+!m",'%[\r\n]+%m'); // remove CRs and newlines
$_strip_replace = array('',' ');
$_cleaner_array = array(">" => "> ", "®" => "", "®" => "", "™" => "", "™" => "", "\t" => "", " " => "");
$str = html_entity_decode($str);
$str = strtr($str, $_cleaner_array);
$str = preg_replace($_strip_search, $_strip_replace, $str);
$str = strip_tags($str);
$str = eregi_replace("[^[:alnum:][:space:].,!()'-_/+=?äÂÄöÖüÜß]", "", $str);
$str = utf8_encode(htmlentities($str));
$str = str_replace('&amp;', '&', $str);
$str = str_replace(array("®", "©", "™"), array('(r)', '(c)', '(tm)'), $str);
$out = "";
$length = strlen($str);
for ($i = 0; $i < $length; $i++) {
$current = ord($str{$i});
if (($current == 0x9) || ($current == 0xA) || ($current == 0xD) || (($current >= 0x20) && ($current <= 0xD7FF)) || (($current >= 0xE000) && ($current <= 0xFFFD)) || (($current >= 0x10000) && ($current <= 0x10FFFF))) {
$out .= chr($current);
} else {
$out .= " ";
}
}
$str = trim($out);
$str = str_replace(array("<", ">"), array("<", ">"), $str);
if ($cdata) {
$str = '<![CDATA[' . $str . ']]>';
}
return $str;
}
Remember to make a copy before you make any changes to googlebase.php. And well, if it doesn't work .. I don't know what to tell you since I didn't write the script! :huh:
Note: One thing I noticed is that after making this change, my rss feeds seem to lose their HTML formatting. It's not crucial for me, and I'm not 100% certain that Base even allows it. So I may just be confusing myself here. :blush:
Greetings...
ZC1.3.8a
Google Feeder 1.7.0a
I got this installed and I think its all right..but..
Out of about 30,000 products in my store, the XML file is only ending up with about 4400 products.
Thank You for the reply. Question - how would you suggest one go about removing this character?
The bigger issue here is this. Prior to this upgrade, the upload worked FINE with NO ERRORS and none of the item descriptions have changed since the upgrade. So it seems the issue now is why did this upgrade all of a sudden cause some of our items to have reported errors with Google base when they didn't before the upgrade?
Thanks
The next version will include a revamp, AGAIN, of the sanitization. It is important that this function is optimized as it will be the difference of whether or not websites with more than 10,000 products will timeout while populating the feed.
Simply combining the two functions is overkill, but an optimized solution will be included in the next release.
The next version...
Good god...thats great news. :)
I will have well over 100,000 products online pretty soon in the new store, I had about 356k in the old one, but have optimized product categories a lot since then..let me know if I can beta test, anything..
Not sure what that is supposed to mean? It comes down to this (and only stating this in an attempt to help)
1. The previous version of this mod worked and submitted all of our products without error.
2. After upgrade - several of our products were returned by Google Base with errors. The description had not changed - this was caused by the new version of this mod.
3. Something in the code of this new version is causing this mod to submit products with errors where it did not before. This is a bug that should be corrected.
4. The previous poster suggested a code change which corrected the problem and all products are once again submitted without errors.
Hopefully this helps but would be more than glad to provide any additional information requested.
Am I basically screwed at this point? It seems like I'm going to have to go back and fix every item to get rid of these characters.
Here's an example of one of my listings.
http://www.automotivepartssuperstore...r755gggjc2st83
I have a few hundred items, so Im not sure what my act of recourse is. Should I just reload the backup of my products and try to figure out what this bug is?
No, just use the older 1.7.0 for now. Worked fine for me once I re-uploaded it over the 1.7.1.
The module didn't create the weird character in just the feed file. It actually added the strange character all over my ACTUAL website. Is this some sort of major error on the installation?
http://www.automotivepartssuperstore...084uhvq2nilba1
This link is to a product on my live website. The character has been added everywhere in all the descriptions
Help!
I don't know the specifics since I'm not doing the actual ftp transfer. I asked my web developer to install the the module. Everything looked good as far as installation into the admin. When I went to create the feedfile it wasn't working. The module said to chmod the directory, which we did and then it worked. It created the feed file, I went to view it in another tab, and it was then that the character was everywhere on the site as well as the feed file.
:(
I'm not aware of anything els being done
I suspect they were there before. Do a db backup and restore an older one and see if it was there. You can restore the newest backup after this test. Do I have to say it? Maybe, DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
numinix, did you ever find the solution to this? I have bullets all through my descriptions and str_replace doesn't work (as you noted). I tried applying the function html_translate to see if one of these would strip it out:
$value = preg_replace("/¿/", "À", $value);
and I tried to find a hexidecimal entity(like 0xD7FF ??) for the bullet without success.
My problem was related to google failing most of my products due to bullets in the descriptions. I ended up reverted to the previous version as mentioned here
It strips all the html from the description. Google strips it anyway so it shouldn't matter. We'll see -- I just resubmitted the feed and am awaiting confirmation.
Google did accept all of my products after I reverted to the prev. version. It's not as pretty as before but good enough for today. I just wanted to replace bullets with an asterisk. It also strips out the ampersand html entity (and probably others).
Had the same character issue with 1.7.1a which I upgraded from 1.6.2, using zen 1.3.8.
I downloaded a new version on Numinix' site (1.7.3a) and all products upload without error.
Looks like this version has not been posted on the Zen download section, but it is here:
v1.7.3a
Numinix, thanks for the quick fix... and great mod!:clap:
Hi, I'm trying to list my products on Google Base, and they seem to be approved each time once the file is uploaded to Base.
But, I would really like to include the Products Model information from each product. Is there some adjustment I can make to any of the files included with the feeder program so that it will extract that information too?
I have searched for "model" in this thread and haven't had much luck. If someone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Or if Numinix can lend a hand that'd be splendid also!
Matt

Actually to clarify about my s/w. I have never installed the Base Feeder before so it's a new install. I am using ZC v1.3.8a, and installed google base feeder 1.7.1 . I found on the first post in this thread that MPN was added, but I cannot find that in my Base Feeder Configuration. :(
MPN isn't an option, it is automatically included in the feed as it is a requirement by Google Base. Remember, viewing the feed in a browser is different than viewing the feed in an xml editor as in a browser only elements that are defined will show up. g:mpn is not a standard element, therefore the browser ignored this element.
See line 271 to 273 of v1.7.3a:
PHP Code:
if ($products->fields['products_model'] != '') {
$content["mpn"] = '<g:mpn>' . $google_base->google_base_sanita($products->fields['products_model'], true) . '</g:mpn>';
}
Oh crummy. Thank you for clearing that up. I checked the specifics of my items online after your post, and figured out I'm the "bug" in the system. I was wanting to be able to have customers search by the mfr product number and I've been entering product models with the manufacturer name included in that cell. So when I look at the mfr model number on Base, it says "AEM21-XXX" instead of just "21-XXX". In my site there's a space between the mfr name and product model number that I entered in to the cell. And the space is displayed on my product listing. But google scrunches them together when it gets the data feed file.
Well I certainly appreciate you pointing out the issue for me, thank you and have a great day!
I posted this in another area and got no answer, so here it is again.
After uploading to Google Base, I can search for a specific item by using very specific search terms. My items show in the results.
However, when I use a little more generic search, none of my products are returned.
For example, searching for "4 aces poker chip $500" will return my product listing, but "4 aces poker chip" does not.
So, what am I doing wrong? Or, what do I need to do to get the products listed correctly?
Thanks.
Hello again,
Wondering about an issue on my google base item listings.
When I go edit any of the items uploaded by my last feed, the Product Type shows the manufacturer of the vehicle that the part is for. For example if my item description says "03-05 Accord DX/LX/EX L4 w/o MAF AEM Short Ram Intake", google automatically enters "Honda" in the Product Type field of my Base item.
I'm unsure whether google doing this is beneficial to my listing. Before when I would manually enter a product, I would enter "Automotive" in the Product Type field of my Base item.
Everything on my website is to do with Automotive products. Is there any way I can make Google Base not assume what to put in there? Or is there something about the feed that I need to change to get the Product Type field to show "Automotive"?
Thank you in advance! :D
I just had that same issue not long ago. It cleared up when I started using the datafeeds instead. I believe Base choked on something like an illegal character. The quotation mark was the baddie that was causing all the grief with google.
Have you already compared a sample item against the Editorial Guidelines?
http://base.google.com/support/bin/a...S&answer=59466
All I can locate for the bit about having "illegal characters" in your text is a forum post here:
http://groups.google.com/group/base-...64c6c8af?pli=1
Hope that helps!:smile:
I have zencart 1.3.8a loaded and have 1.7.3a google base feeder loaded. Is there a reason why the google base feeder is not processing all of my products? I have 17,000 products on my site, but the feeder is only processing 5099 of them.
Hi, I am having same issue with + or - 14,000 products. It only puts out roughly 5000+ of them.. I am a newbie and would like to know how to fix this issue.. Any help would be great.. Thanks in advance.. Jim

just noticed today that all feeds that I upload fail.
I manually uploaded yesterday as I added new products and it was successful. Today my cron run automatically and feed failed. Now I just repeated manually and google reports failed again.
Here is the message:
Outcome: Data feed upload failure
Number of items processed: 0
Number of inserted items: 0

Not sure what is going on. This happens from all my stores. Maybe google base has a problem? Does anybody else see the same today? I will try tomorrow and report back...
All of my feeds to Google Base failed today...that includes cron jobs and manual. Perhaps something is broken over at Google. I got the same information (which is really no info):
Outcome: Data feed upload failure
Number of items processed: 0
Number of inserted items: 0
Thanks, this is what I was thinking too... maybe we just have to wait until tomorrow and we shall see.
Hi,
I'm really sorry, I'm new to this. I have zen cart version 1.3.8 an installed Google Base Feeder Version: 1.7.1a fallowing your instructions. As a result I have fallowing notice: 8 statements processed. Now I can find Google Base Feeder in "CONFIGURATIONS" but not in "TOOLS".... Please help....
Hello All,
I just Installed the google base feeder 1.7.1a with Zen cart 1.3.8a. I installed every sql file that was in the SQL updates directory, then Installed the update_1_7_1.sql file all with no problem. Then tried to install the googlefroogle.sql and get dupplicate error. The Admin->Configuration->Google Base Configuration exist and I set the ftp. The Admin->Tools>Google Base Feeder exist and I ran it, but the products were blank. Been reading for couple hours and have not found solution. Do I need to unistall? Please help!:frusty:
The Duplicate error was:
1062 Duplicate entry 'GOOGLE_BASE_PASV' for key 2
in: (Then there was a long list)
Was the feed directory blank? If yes, you might need to set the write permissions for the feed directory.
Thank you for your reply. I just verified the feed directory is 777.When I select product feed this link opens: http://peaceful-planet.com/googlefro...?feed=fy_un_tp but it is just a blank page.
I take it you got this error while trying to copy and paste the SQL updates?? If so, the field that the script is trying to create was already there. I think it'd be safest for you to either A: Perform the uninstall as completely as you can or B: Recover to the backup that you made before you installed this module. Then Try the install again from the beginning.
Also hopefully Mr. Numinix has an ear open about this thread so I can pick his brain again... When I upload my feed file to Google Base, for some reason I get some extra fields in the product details. I view my active items, click edit next to one of them, and under the Details section, I have anywhere from 2 to 5 instances of a custom field titled "c_condition". I can click "click to remove" next to the item to get those extra detail fields to go away, but doing this for 450 items is no small task! Ha.
I don't see the "c_condition" field anywhere in the xml feed file that is generated by your script. Should I be looking to Google for the answer to this one?
:frusty:
And is there a way that I can modify the script to always enter "Automotive" for the product_type such as below? Im sure you know this already but currently it grabs the manufacturer category (i.e. Ford or Honda or GMC) from the top level parent folder.
Code:<g:product_type><![CDATA[Automotive]]></g:product_type>
The feed directory is empty except the index file that I put in there. Is it possible that the google sitmap install that I installed a while back is casue issue? I ran all 13 updates in the sql updates directory, then ran the update_1_7_1.sql update that was in main directory. Then I had error when I tryied to run the googlefroogle.sql. Was this the correct procedure?
Thanks for any help I can get!
Actually I believe there may have been a misinterpretation of the directions here. If you had begun this installation with no previous installation of the google feed, then you should only have copied and pasted the contents of the googlefroogle.sql file to your "SQL Updates" window so that only those commands are run on your database. The other update files are for those users wishing to upgrade their previous installation to version 1.7.1 . I would recommend (as long as this is a new installation for you) that you follow the uninstallation directions included with this release, and start over again.
If you have data already in your database, this might not be easy, or maybe you'd like to have someone familiar with MySQL databases look at the files you installed, and see if they can create a custom backup for you so that the tables can be re populated once the uninstall and reinstall is finished.
I did backup the database before I ran all the updates. But I did not switch back to the backup once I got the error. Now I have a bunch of sales that I would lose the information on. Database seems to work okay still but doesn't look like I will have google feeds. Is there any other methods to send products over to google base?

I think the version v.1.7.0A is the one you want. You can still get it here:
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=473
just scroll down a bit.
This version works for me best. Newer ones gave me troubles. Some older 1.6x ones gave me strange results in the past.
Give it a shot...
If it works fine, feel free to upgrade to the latest version and try again. My results were just the most predictable for my sites with 1.7.
I am hoping someone can really help me install google feed. I have read the instructions and forum posts but it's a little above me. Please email me if you can help. I'm totally lost how to install and get it working. My email address is microbelift###################### my site is www.microbelift.net
I really need the help and thanks to anyone that can help really walk me through how to get this going. Again my email address is microbelift######################
Yes, there are other methods to list your products on google base, but either they are too time consuming if you have a lot of products, or they are more technically advanced. If you'd like me to help you do the uninstall, I'd try my best to re-word the instructions, or possibly use msn messenger to let me remotely view your screen or something like that. I could point out to you where to perform what measures to go through the uninstall process, and then try to get a clean installation. just PM me with your email address or msn login and we can set up a time to meet online.
This person needs to remove the Google Base configuration keys with a group_id of 0 from the database. Then run the uninstall.sql file and then re-patch with googlefroogle.sql.
I don't think anything should be using configuration_group_id=0. So a quick method could be to simply do something like this:
Don't do this unless the Zen Cart developer's have confirmed that nothing should be using that id.PHP Code:
DELETE FROM `configuration` WHERE `configuration_group_id` = 0;
Hi, I am in need of help.. I am not getting any errors when creating the file nor any errors when uploading the file.. But I have 13,000 products and only about 5,000 are getting into google base.. I just installed this mod and was carefully working through the 7 step configuration process.
Everyting was going well until I hit step 7. Go to Admin->Tools>Google Base Feeder and follow instructions to create, view, and upload feed file.
I am running Zen Cart v1.3.8 and having installed this mod correctly, the Admin->Tools>Google Base Feeder menu item does not exist..
Anyone heard this before? What can I have possibly done wrong?
I have checked each file, one by one and all files are uploaded correctly and to the correct location. this is not a case of missing files unless I have a corrupted download?
It's not a corrupt download as I've downloaded it twice from the download area of Zen Cart and I've uninstalled it and re-installed it twice..... still missing that menu.
Been reading this thread and I know you say this has been answered here about a dozen times but it's a long, long thread and I can't find the answer.
It's mentioned that I must not have uploaded all the files but I definitely have that's not what's wrong...
If someone could advise then I'd really appreciate it as this looks like a brilliant mod... don't know why I've not noticed it before.
I just uninstalled this mod and installed froogle_0.1-beta1 mod instead.... this is a very similar contribution but I have found the exact same problem!!
It's also supposed to install a Tools>Submenu item but again, it installs the Configuration menu and NO TOOLS MENU.
Does anyone have any idea why both of these mods is not installing the TOOLS>SUBMENU?
More to the point, does anyone know which exact files it is that create the Tools menu??
I'm thinking that maybe I have an Admin OverRide folder somewhere that's overriding the installation of this mod...
windows_live_product_search_feeder_1-11a mod...........same problem.... will not install the TOOLS menus.
It seems therefore that when you said this question had been answered dozens of times already in this thread, the truth is it's not been answered.
There's something wrong with a lot of users admin files as these three mods do not generate the additional TOOLS menu for some reason.
Anyone have any idea why this can be?
Doooooohhhh!! Figured this out finally!! I forgot that I'd renamed my ADMIN folder some time ago for security purposes :-)
so, I have woz and base mods, and they are somehow preventing the feed from working properly. is there a way I can go into my site database and import my product info into excel to create a feed manually?
