What size were your images (before you resized them)?

Straight from the camera. Big - 1-2meg
I've used 1-2 meg files on my localhost with IH2 before and had no problems. At first the GD2 libraries were not enabled on my localhost, so that meant that IH2 did not work and all the images on my website took a long time to load and looked very 'jagged' around the edges!
I verified through godaddy that my GD2 libraries were current and running... still I get ()imagedestroy.
I've just installed IH2 and got it working. Seems good - but I'm curious about a couple of things.
1 - The main reason I installed it was to get the benefit of reduced image space on the server. It seems, to me, that loading only the large image and not the medium and small ones (in my case 1/4 and 1/16 the sizes of the large) would buy me some time before I need to find another host (or another solution). The cache will offset this - my first thought is that once all the images have been cached I'll end up using the same as I would have without IH2.
I see there's an admin option to clear the cache. Could this be called from a cron job - once a week, say, flipping the site into maintenance mode (if necessary), clearing the cache, then flipping it back to normal?
I seem to recall there's an option to set expiry dates on UNIX files. Or maybe that was an old ICL mainframe thing .... If it exists can this be used to give the cached files a shelf life after which they're automatically removed? If I'm thinking about a real feature would the hosts have to set anything up, or would I need to set up a cron job to do the housekeeping?
2 - With image security in mind - can IH2 pull its source images from a directory away from public access?
This error is to do with the file name itself...I tested it with file names without spaces and it worked. try it and let me know. tested on apache on windows and apache on linux. so basically change your file names so that it doesn't include any spaces and it will work 100%
Hope this helps you all
Sorry if this question has been asked lately, I searched and read about 20 pages of this thread and did not find an answer.
I installed IH on www.stuff4toys.com and it works GREAT, THANKS for all your hard work.
Now my question...
I have these two other sites in my tagline. I have an extensive collection of _LRG and _MED files in their appropriate folders.
Now I would like to install IH for two reasons
Will IH still take advantage of my existing _LRG & _MED files or do I have to go through all my products and re-assign images?
- Watermarking of the currently displayed images
- Future product images
Thanks
