I have these two other sites in my tagline. I have an extensive collection of _LRG and _MED files in their appropriate folders.
Now I would like to install IH for two reasons
Will IH still take advantage of my existing _LRG & _MED files or do I have to go through all my products and re-assign images?
- Watermarking of the currently displayed images
- Future product images

do you mean the hover effect?
In IH you just upload one default image, and set the settings for small, medium and large in the Admin.
If that doesn't work there is some conflict with the imagehover.js script.
Check if there is any other javascript in custom_template/jscript.
If there is, it will override the IH script.

I authored a mod for this, I don't take any credit, it was done with the help of gjh42.
It is in the downloads/templates section, I think it is in second place, the support thread info is in the mod.
Regarding the "medium" image, I already answered, there is no medium image.
Just tweak the settings of product info in Configuration --> Images.
I set it to 100 x 100 but you can do whatever you like within the limits of IH.

Hello, I've started customising a Zen Cart a few weeks ago and just now i installed Image Handler 2 and I get several errors with it, and being only in the beginner area at PHP and JS I am compelled to ask for help here.

and I modified a lot many pages for proper html output.
The errors I get:
In the first screenshot firebug tells me that the JS events aren't defined.
That event is related with the second and third screenshot of errors that I get inside the admin.
And the other problem in the Admin =>Tools => IH2 is that instead of categories I see only *(in fact the categories are showing only in IE with Romanian Language, weirddd), atm that is not a problem, but after a few weeks the shop will have around 1000 products... and that will become a problem, any suggestion on the category displaying issue is very welcome .
Also when I try to see what the Preview menu I get the 2nd screenshot error(which i don't get no more, the only thing i get is the default image, no preview no watermark).
I am making screenshots to be fully comprehended, my english isn't that good at such late hours and after 15 hours of work :).

OK , There's only zoom left... the other issues were related to my stupidity.
EDIT: The zoom related issues i'm 100% sure it's not human error from my side. I read and read and read, and tried different things, I crashed the catalog, I restore the backup, i reinstalled IH2, and the Zoom won't work.

Looking at your source code you are missing this line.

Oh my good, you were right, the hover js file was only in the template_default directory, i copied it in the classic directory and now everything works, AMAZING, and i spent hours reading and looking to the code. I remember checking the html output and seeing the hover js file in the head section but you are right.
Working at night isn't that good :)). Thanks a lot, and I will create a new theme name so at the next release i don't get all my design and settings screwed up. I was thinking on making some designs improvements anyway.

I've just installed IH2 and I have got it working to some extent. It does a really nice job of resizing the images, very nice!
I am having a few problems most probably something to do with the way I have installed it.
I'm running my setup locally using WAMP. And I have my zencart installed in the directory zencart. So under zencart I have admin, images , includes etc...
I've copied all the directories for IH into the zencart directory.
There's a few strange things that are not working but most noticeably When I go to:
Tools->Image handle 2->preview
I cannot see any of the preview images..
when I click to view image my browser tells me:
The requested URL /zencart/zencart/admin/images/ih-test.png was not found on this server.
It seems that somehow IH2 thinks that there is another dir called zencart in my original zencart directory.
I'm sure this is simple to fix but I'm not sure where to look.
Any help would be great.

I've trying to figure out this for a couple of days, i searched the forum but i could not find a problem similar to mine or at least i did not see one.
My problem is: i have this mod installed on a testing site and i am able to add an image from the IH2 under the Admin, the site however is using the Zen Cart mechanism of displaying the same image with different dimensions and the same size, the only thing this mod does is displaying a medium image size when hover with mouse over the small image.
Is there a way to force Zen Cart to use this mod? as i said it is installed and partially working (the hover part).
Other things that is not working:
The Zoom image is not displaying
the images are not resizing

Ok, it is working now and beautifully if i may say.
I think what happened is the following:
I tried to use the admin to clear the cache from bmz_cache the i got an error that the files were not deleted, i checked the permission for that directory and it was 777 however the sub folder with only read/execute permission, i deleted the sub folders manually and wallah, it is working.
Well another thing i did, I cut the grass (usually do that when i get frustrated) maybe it has something to do with it. :lamo:

there's a small image in the left that should give you and idea of what it looks like when it's working.
for me it's not a problem with the number of slashes it's the fact that an extra dir is inserted into the path. So the path to the image is:
/zencart/zencart/admin/images/ih-test.png
whereas it should be something like:
/zencart/admin/images/ih-test.png
so if i remove DIR_WS_CATALOG form the php code it seems to get the correct path.(Since it is defined as /zencart/ i have to replace is with a single / hence '//' (two slashes because you have to escape it first, otherwise php throws an error).

I found the path to the broken images by right clicking on them and clicking on view image (in firefox).
it could be that the string that is returned by $images['pngsource'] is not being formed correctly? i.e. in my case it's adding an extra zencart directory.

Function used:
zen_href_link('', '', 'NONSSL')
This error is to do with the file name itself...I tested it with file names without spaces and it worked. try it and let me know. tested on apache on windows and apache on linux. so basically change your file names so that it doesn't include any spaces and it will work 100%

Well I think you have to make sure that you deleted the original line of text there. And then make sure you are editing it with a plain text editor like notepad or something.Quote:

I too have had numerous problems with IH2, not least of which it seems to me that it is quite difficult to find an 'authoritative' working, up-to-date version. I think that it is about time someone grabbed this mod by the scruff of its neck and rationalised the versions, because, as far as I recall, the version on the Author's web site differs from that in the ZC downloads section!! (Of course, this won't mean that the AUthor's version will correspond with the version in the download section, but, perhaps, if the 'read me' file were to state in no uncertain terms, and truthfully, that the version there is THE definitive, accept no substitutes blah-di-blah...)
I have encountered the absent preview images problem, and have found that reverting to a 'clean' install of Zen Cart, followed by installation of IH2, checking to see that it works as expected - once it is up and working correctly, it can be followed by all the other mods that you require. Of course you need to pay careful attention when and where 'merges' are necessary. This process has fixed the problem for me - I know it's SUCH a pain, but do you really NEED the preview images?
As you know, I have NEVER been able to get the 'hover' to work, but that doesn't particularly bother me!
the original filename must not have any spaces in it or any brackets "(" ")". the problem, in my experience, occurs when the script trries to rename the new file name to the old one and add the varient number on the ed so its all to do with the old file name, ie the filename that the original product image is.

When hovering small image, your medium image is shown. If you have all your images set to the same size under Configuration :: Images you won't notice a difference.Quote:

I am well aware of the discrepancy between the download section and the author's site.
I decided to go with the latter, the downloads section is still very disorganized, maintainers know it but they don't have time to fix it now, this is free software so we have to bear with them.
Regarding your fix, no I don't need the preview images that bad, I might wait for an important upgrade in the software to reload everything.
Regarding the hover effect, you know what the fix is, only you don't want to apply it, with IH2 you have to forget about _MED, _LRG, naming the files, etc. You just upload a base image and let the program do the rest.
