Hi Conor!

What do people here think?
Should I make the change for the just-about-to-be-released version 3.6.3 or leave things as they are to save a bit of processing time and let people using Raine's AJAX module make use of the excluded files functionality?
That depends on how big the "bit of processing time" is. I wonder if there is a way to quantify? If this change adds 0.1 second, then it is probably not a good idea to add. But if it only adds like 0.001... that is fairly negligible, probably best to include the new code by default.
There is a lot to be said for simplicity and compatibility. Steve Jobs owes much of the last 10 years to those attributes.
That is my 2¢.

My position has been rethunk! :D
I agree with Diva. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If there is a work around that already exists and it is easy to use, then just leave it alone.
Faster is better.
Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)
Hello, i hope you can also help me out in my problem.
I have been running my store since 9 months and using the URI mapping since i installed zen cart 1.3.8a.
Today i'm feeling that my zencart store is quite slower and it gives
Parse Time: 16.755 - Number of Queries: 332 - Query Time: 16.151112522018
to open a page. But today i have realized that if i turn off the URI Mapping then i see this much increased in performance
Parse Time: 0.641 - Number of Queries: 34 - Query Time: 0.22432210540771
Thousands of pages of my website are indexed by google based on the URI mapping. Now i can't turn it off even. So please tell me the solution as what should i do to get the same high performance with uri mapping.

Ceon URI Mapping is written to be as lean as possible. There's nothing that I can do to help you.
16 seconds is a ridiculous amount of time and indicates a problem with your server.. a decent server should be able to carry out 1000s of queries in a second.
The solution to your problem is to use a better web host/package.

lol I don't think Steve Jobs is a shining example of simplicity! I'm still not sure what the primary buttons in the MacOS Finder are for - a case of unintuitive design if ever there was one! And the less said about iTunes the better! :)

Thanks for the feedback Feznizzle and DivaVocals! I've decided to leave things as they are. Zen Cart can be used within other software and so it may not necessarily be running with a script name of index.php.
It would be nice to have things work easier for users of the AJAX module mentioned by yellow1912 but they are provided for with the excluded files functionality and not checking against the script name allows for greater flexibility. The quicker code, while the difference is almost negligble, is an additional benefit.
Version 3.6.3 will be out shortly.
All the best...

Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)
But i'm already hosting my site to a dedicated server to test the performance of the website but it is still very low.

You must have configured the server wrongly then. We have a dedicated server and it builds our Zen Cart store's pages in milliseconds.
Sorry but I can't help you. I wish you luck in sorting this out though. Maybe take a look at your SQL server/connection first? Then check your PHP build/memory limits etc.
One other thing.. if you have large category menus (or some sort of JavaScript menu) then replacing them with a hard-coded menu with hard-coded links so they don't need to be looked up each time a page is built will of course reduce the number of queries used for a page.
All the best...

Re: Ceon URI Mapping (SEO)
I hate to have to ask since I haven't read thru all 100 or so pages of this thread but this is urgent and there's got to be a simple explanation.
When there are pages of products, the next button no longer works. Can't go past the first page of products. Did I miss something?
The link becomes domain.com/gourmet-specialty-coffee?sort=20a&page=2.

Something's up on your site as the module has no known problems.. pagination should still work fine after a category has been assigned a static URI.
I can take a quick look at this for you. Send me FTP and admin details for the site via this link. (For peace of mind you can delete any accounts created for me once we're done but make sure the FTP account has full write access).
All the best..
