Hi somewhere in this huge thread, someone mentioned a problem with uploaded products not producing a product page. I can't find that particular post but is here.
What happens when I use easy populate to upload new products, the upload works to a point where you can view the new products in the product listing, but when you click the product to open the product page, I get "page not found".
Does anyone have any idea what will cause this??
Help would be appreciated..
I also still have this problem regarding the attributes .txt file as mentioned in post above & below!

I have the purchased version of Easy Populate. I want to know is it possible to define the category meta tages with EP. These are the fields i used for products:
v_metatags_title_en, v_metatags_keywords_en, v_metatags_description_en
Will it work for categories?

Go to the products_attributes table and click the import tab then browse to your saved .csv file, then click the csv option in the format of imported file box and be sure to change the field terminated by ; to , (semi colon to comma) there are other options for 'replace table data with file' this will replace all the data within the table, and ignore duplicate rows. I usually select replace table data.
This has worked fine for me, it worked fine with oscommerce too. Two rules.
1) BACK UP FIRST
2) Never forget rule 1.

I added just 6 products with EP to start with to a sub category and they all uploaded fine to the correct place and all display ok, providing everything is added to the correct columns I wouldn't expect to have a problem (?) adding a lot at one time.Quote:

When you download the DB table and open it with Excel or Calc the format is a little different to what you get from the EP attribute download.
In column A is attributes ID, this (it seems) has to be a different number for every line and the number has no bearing on the product ID in column B. In column B you have your product ID number and that column can have repeats of the ID number due to the same product have several attributes, so the same product with several attributes would look a little like this in column A & B

So product #1 has four separate attributes.
If your store is live it would be prudent to set up a test category with a handful of products and add attributes to these before trying it on live products. BACK UP the table first so if anything goes wrong you can restore the back up and put everything back to how it was.

I do use Calc from Open Office. The file seemed to edit ok but the attributes never got added when I restored the file. Perhaps I did something wrong but it seems a lot of people have trouble getting the attributes side of EP to actually work.

I use OfficeOrg to open the txt file
I search the txt file for "options_id" to see if the attached id # in the header is the same as the option # for the data included in that column. They don't match.
I look at the Option Names in the Admin Panel and notice that certain Option Names have been deleted (by me). Well, those same Option Name Id #'s are the ones that are missing from the data in the downloaded attribute text file - as you would expect. HOWEVER, the column headers STILL INCLUDE THE DELETED OPTION NAMES AND VALUES!!!
I restored my zencart to a recent backup to realign the options but it wasn't enough. I can try restoring to a system backup that was done a few days earlier.
Is it "forbidden" to delete option names??? (no products associated but yes, there are some values.) Maybe I should have deleted the values first and then the Option Name to clear out the db better?
I price by attribute quite a bit so this is so frustrating!!! Any help would be enormously appreciated.

EPA is supposed to support attributes, although I cannot personally verify this. Check langer's site. Attributes do not work in EP 1.2.5.4.
If you are having problems with products not showing then I would check to see that the category relations are correct, you can't add a product to a category that has sub categories, you have to add the product at the 'end of the line' so to speak.

Is the temp folder in your webstore directory? I would check to see that all the folders and files are in the correct place, the error seems to suggest that it's calling for a file/folder that can't be found.
I am new to Zencart and i am coming from OSC. Not to sure if this is the right place to post this.
I am using cherry template and easy populate. I have 4 product descriptions.
Ex. v_products_description_1,v_products_description_2.
Fields are uploading; easypopulate is working great.
I can't seem to figure out how to display product descriptions 2 through 4.
I don't know which php file to go into to define v_products_description_2,3,4 and then how to display them.
I want them in the same box as description 1. Each product description underneath each other.
Hope this helps little more.

My webhost "Upgraded" cPanel (Linux/Apache etc server) and reset everything to default. It's taken us days to work through settings and get everything running again. [And, yes, we're moving hosts. He has been no help at all with this]
The first symptom was that our shopping carts couldn't access the mySQL database: we came in one morning to find all sites down and SQL errors everywhere. Our stores did not have permission to run scripts: there were no permissions set. After that we ran into more permissions probs, more sql errors, file size upload limits, email errors, and more.
Now everything is OK, but EZ Pop can not upload. We also have 1 X-Cart and 1 custom X-Cart-based custom site. None of our sites can take an upload.
There is some permission prob I guess. Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I wondered if anyone would know what cPanel setting is restricting our access. Everything worked fine before.Quote:

If you have ftp access, try to go in and chmod777 on your /temp directory. You can also do that manually through cPanel using the file manager option. Hope that works for you!Quote:

I have moved the admin and temp file to every place on the totem pole, and made the temp folder permissions 777. Still same error. Deleter all files and began fresh, no good.

I still don't succeed with importing products. I tried the same import on one of my other stores and the file imports just fine. So something is wrong on my current site. I suspect my db has a problem. How would I remove ep from the db? I want to try to uninstall and then reinstall the mod. Any help?

actually I have 2x Easy Populate listed. Not right... just checked again, 3x.

I am having one problem with it. When I make my database to upload everything is correct. But some were after uploading the file the data gets changed. All Zeros get changed to Ones.
As we are a liquor store, we have liters at 1.0 and 1800 Tequila gets changed to 1.1 liters and 1811 Tequila. Even the prices change.
I have checked everything and have even re-uploaded with a new datafile.
If you have any ideas it would be much appreciated.
New Post: Attribute File has Mismatched Headers and Data
It was because EPA version 3.03 promised:
"Bugfix: attributes export file header names corrected - caused broken attributes upload."
that I paid for the Advanced version of EP. However, it does not seem to have helped (see below.) The attribute headers are still wrong. the headers are picking up option names/values that have been deleted from the db while the actual data is ok, i think.
I AM DEAD IN THE WATER WITHOUT THIS. my site depends on pricing by attributes so I really, really, really need help!
I copied one piece of the txt file and transposed it to show the mismatch:

using EP 1.2.5.4. for first time. I have downloaded the COMPLETE txt file of the using EP so that I can see the structure in order to upload a some products. each product has a sample of music.
Is there a way of extending the file structure to upload the sample (in the same way I make reference to the image, I want to make reference to the mp3 file)

I was able to get a copy of my merchandise data onto my local drive and view it with Open Office.
But when I attempted to make a small test of 3 items to upload, no luck . I keep getting the error:

if you're trying to get a difficult file to convert in Excel, sometimes this works:
1) open the file in winword (or ultraedit or some other good text editor)
2) edit/replace tab (^t in winword) with ~ or % or $ or some char that isn't in your data file. Don't use the winldcards (* or ?)
3) save the file. Open it in excel. During the convert choose the char you replaced the tabs with as your delimiter.
Hi I have utf problem also.. N it freaks me out..
My whole db runs in unicode, the admin pages are utf8 encoded, when I export, it exports utf txt files.. When I open I can set to utf8 read encoding.. It shows nice.. When I try to save Xcell I can only choose between "tab-delimited" or "unicode".. There is no separate encoding.. That's one thing.. First I tried the "tab-delimited" option.. Result: after uploading and processing it, all öüóőúéáűí became ????????? characters.. Akay, I thought I just can give a sht n try unicode simply, 'cos I compared with the original exported file, and the tabs seemed to be ok.. But It seems like it didn't processed anything cos the last echo is:

I am confused by your post - my db is in utf8 also, but the whole point of EP is to avoid dealing with sql and php and utf8 etc. Did you post to the wrong place? Are you working in PHPMyAdmin? Frankly, I would LOVE to know the answer to your question because of all the trouble I'm having with EP. I wish I knew how to export/import directly into a MySql db!Quote:

What's weird is that both of them report "products updated successfully." but when I go in thru phpmyadmin, nothing has been changed at all whatsoever.
Have I chopped up the file too much? Or does EP's att headers (or EPA's for that matter) JUST NOT WORK???
ALSO, Does anybody know how to export/import safely using PHPMyAdmin? Export as csv? What import options do you use???

I'm assuming that you read the instructions, and you have a /temp folder created and it's permissions are set correctly (it is chmod 777). If that is not the case, try that first, as that is the most likely cause!Quote:

My file is in the "easy populate" format. (I had just thought about changing the extension to .sql, but I do not think that's necessary - after reading a bit more on SSH.)
What I am not clear about is whether I can do a direct import of the easy populate formatted file to the database. Ultimately, I will give it a try with backups, etc...but, will check the forum for any other replies before doing so.
(My host is trying to fix a problem before I can try, but I will update the forum once done...hopefully successfully.

A lot of my products are going to be the same price so i downloaded Easy Populate. When i go Admin/ Tools/ Easy Populate I can only export my current products list as a text document.

Open openoffice calc then file open and choose

Even if i open calc, when i open the file with calc it opens it as a text document in the text editor. It even does this when i rename to file to .cvs
My admin Easy Populate tools will only let me export files as txt, is this normal?

Ive only changed the names of a few products as a test. Do I need to save the open office spread sheet as a txt file? The closest I can find is a .csv file, but that doesn't seem to work.

Hey all, im trying to update my product list using easy populate. Initially i populated with just product name, price and category. I now want to add descriptions.
My suppliers provide the descriptions, i just want to be able to paste them into ep and upload without having to manually tweak the formatting. Is there any way of doing this.
I have tried several ways but the descriptions all end up on 1 line. The supplied descriptions are in a text format on separate lines.

I suggest you format the description in Zen Cart for one product and then export it with EP. Then look at the exported file and see the description column. You should be able to see the br for the line brakes and so forth. Just do it the same way for the text you want to import. You need to keep the html formating stuff. Then it should work.
Can easy populate name categories as well as products? I named some of my categories in zen cart but when i export everything i cant find the text.

I see what you mean about the formatting but with 2000+ products manually inserting the html is going to be a nightmare. Is there no way ep can pick up simple formatting in the description field? I know there are a few advanced options.
A few years back i did the same exercise and im sure i just copied and pasted the mfrs descs into the appropriate field and no further formatting was required. Have i missed something simple?
Yes it can. Just put the formatting tags in the description as well. If you have a source spread sheet where the description has the formatting in it, then you just copy it over to your template file that you created earlier like I suggested. Then import back into Zen.
The source is a spreadsheet with word wrap on. There is no html formatting in the suppliers spreadsheet, there are simply new lines for each part of the description saved in .xls format.
How can i copy this over a template description that has the tags in it? Do you mean manually do it line by line? (bearing in mind i have 2000+ products to add).
Also i tried manually adding a product and downloading the ep file but cant see how you can format the description in the admin tool?
I have the problem that when I try adding a new product, the master_categories_id is not stored, checked the db and it says 0 for the new product. I tried specifying the category per its name and also its ID, none worked.
Do others have this problem when trying to add a new product to an existing category?

Nevermind...
I got confused by an extra line that appears at the end of the report, saying that it didn't add the product because it lacked the category, but it's talking about an empty entry the EP seems to try inserting instead of discarding:
The master category id doesn't get stored, as I had found, but the product gets an entry in the products_to_categories table. I thought that the category value was required in the products table, so I was worried, but it seems to be working without it.Quote:

After spending a weekend editing EP for my use, I didn't see much in the way of editing categories in it. The little bit of category checks and some attempts to create which ends up making trash is about it. I may spend some more time to cleanup that part.Quote:

I'm new here, and new to Zen Cart but not new to web designing in general.
I have downloaded Easy Populate and can't seem to get the format correct in Excel.
I have the entire spreadsheet completed, but when i go to upload it in the admin panel, it uploads one product and not even completely for that one product, when i have 1000's of products that should be uploaded. :(
I am attaching the spreadsheet, and would be really grateful if someone could look at it and change the format quickly (I think i may just be saving it wrong).
I don't have many funds available right now, but i'm willing to give large discounts in my new store or $20 or so to whoever can help me out.

I can't vouch for OO but in Excel, if you put your curser NOT in the cell; but in the Formula MENU line for that cell...it acts more like a text editor. Why am I not able to see my uploaded my datafeed results.
I am using zen 1.3.8a with Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4.
All installed and have NO errors etc . temp folder is cmod 700 and resides -

I have been provided with datafeed from 'sensualmystique.com' as 'new datafeed 051308.xls' file format.
So far so good but what do I need to do to populate my shop. Shop is empty (I have deleted all the previous products and categories)
I have tried opening in Excel then saving as CSV text file then re upload under in admin under 'Upload EP File'
then what? I still can not see the products ..nothing has changed. what am I missing ?

It shouldn't be comma separated values, but tab separated, just making sure cause you said CSV, and the file extension txt.
After placing the file in the temp dir, go to easypopulate in the admin panel and paste the name of the file in the text field to get the file from the temp dir and click the import to db button.

Version 1.2.5.4 from 2005 is the last EP version, is that right? The Froogle feeder doesn't work - Google changed it to Google Products and changed almost all the required fields, and field names, a couple years ago. I modified some of the code last year, but it needs more work. Does anyone plan on working on it?
oavs: I re-read your message and I seem to undertand that the txt file you got wasn't generated with EasyPopulate. If so, you should get one generated by it and then copy the data under the columns it has, that way you make sure you're working with the right format.
How do one get generate by Easy Populate?
As I said I have the new datafeed 051308.xls on my machine locally. What is next? It is tab separated text file saved from Excel.
I am also not interested in The Froogle feeder any any other feeders. I just want my datafeed to work on my own shopping site.

Use EP headings and copy your vendor products under the ones that match.. once done, save as a Tab Delimited text file.. not a CSV file.
Remember... EP wont make categories, use v_status 1 = active, 0 = in-active, 9 = delete product, all lines need an ending word of EOREOR.
davewest, I believe it does create the categories that you mention if they aren't the db already. I think I did a test that showed me that.
oavs, you can do a simple test with a single product first, with a new category, and see what happens.
I am sorry but I am totally lost. I have zipped one of my datafeed and one of the sample datafeed came with the EP. If you can do two lines for me please so I know what to do with the rest.
So close yet so difficult. You think read me would be little more clearer about the most crucial part. Installing running it fine yet I can not use the thingy so little help would be much appreciated.

Ive installed Image Handler 2 and Easy Populate. Both are working fine but now when I go to my Admin/ Categories Products, none are displayed.
If I use Easy Populate I can import products and they appear in my store front, but not in my admin.

oavs, did you look for the txt file in the temp dir? Did you look at the EasyPopulate entry in the Tools menu in the Admin area?
EPA will create, EP wont. There is a difference between the two, I'm using the free one EP. That's what I fond. I'm using it update, add and delete products.Quote:

Ok I found the answer to my question and here it is if anybody else needs it. This worked in ZC 1.3.8 not sure about the older or newer versions coming out.Quote:
