We can confirm that DHL works fine out-of-the-box with ZC 1.3.0.1

It connects to their server. That's why you need a DHL account and a shipping key.

does this work for shipping from abroad to the us? or does it only work domestic?

I was reading your thread about the DHL module. Have you downloaded it and if so does it work? I assume you have the 2004 module.
