Hi Clark, why do you want to remove these features?
I will be adding a switch in the admin to turn on, off and change the effects of these features soon.

It will be another few hours before I can take a proper look, so I will post a fix then. I see you also need it for the extra product images, I'll post a fix for that as well.

Try setting your small images to 100 X 100, and your product info image sizes to 250 X 250. See if it will zoom in on 'em then.

Also, my apologies to Ant. I wasn't trying to change the thread topic, just resolve this issue, because I really don't think it's anything wrong with the template. I think it's just the image sizing that's the issue, as 90% of the time when IH shows the images, but won't zoom, that's the problem.
