Sorry to bump this, but how would one need to modify the categories_ul_generator.php to limit the categories shown in the dropdown to a specific list of categories.. Since many menus use this same class file to generate categories, I've read a ton of threads which provide general info on doing this, but not enough info for me to figure it out on my own.. this puzzle is a bit over my head, and I could sure use a hand form anyone willing to help a lady out here.. :smile:

I am having the same trouble of a double navigation bar. Ver 1.50, with a Bask Black template. My site is http://progradecabinets.com/ . I tried adding the display:none; to #navMainWrapper in my stylesheet.css file as suggested, but it made no difference. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

try locating this in your templates stylesheet and just add the red part and save

#header_bar{
display: none;
background: url("../images/nav_center.gif") repeat-x;
height: 46px;
line-height: 4em;
width: 100%;
}

no problem, I am still really learning this stuff but with tweaking my own and others codes I am getting a little hang onto it...but not much.

You will have to edit your tpl_header.php file and take the code for the header search out of the div that you added the display:none; to.

So there is a hovermenu over the "Info" tab & there are some things I'd like to edit out, even completely disable one of the two columns & maybe just combine one of the links from the left & put it in the single list.

Say I want to ghost out the entire General Info column, where/what would I put to do so?

I tried both in multiple areas/configurations & I couldn't get any of the code to ghost out.

Has anyone managed to get the categories to work dynamically in a 4 column box? This site has done it nicely with level one as the header and the relevant subs below, but if not sure if it's dynamic or hard-coded (click on dog-shop under the logo):

I think the issue is you are using terminology that doesn't make it clear what you are trying to do.. I assume you mean by "ghost out" is that you want to REMOVE the general info column of the Info tab?? And there's no reason why you can't move on to make other changes/edits while you wait for an answer to your question..

When I said ghost it out I meant "comment out"

I was always just deleting code when I made changes but someone recently in another thread said its better to comment it out than delete it.

But for some reason when I try commenting out the part I have in red it wasn't working. Suggestions?

I know I can move onto other parts, it's really just this menu & the footer pop up menu that I have left to edit really and I can't figure out how to remove links from either for some reason.

I assume form your previous posts that this is the section you want to comment out (the "General Info").. if you comment out EVERYTHING you have in red, you will remove the top level "Info" menu and ALL of the "Info" menu items below it. Simply put the opening comment <!-- at the beginning of this block and the ending comment --> at the end of this block

It should be define_conditions.php (all lowercase letters) , and it sits in "includes\languages\english\html_includes\".

This file comes with a standard ZC install.

"includes\languages\english\html_includes\ has a yorkshire_clean folder & a define_about_us.php file in it. No conditions? It's a new file I just downloaded from the website.

Not the place to post this as it's got nothing to do with the menu.. but if it's not in your template's folder, then simply copy it over from the default_template..

Unless the file was changed for the template package, you will not find it in the override directory. The define_conditions.php file is not in the template package.

The manufacturers links are shifting/re-ordering themselves when you hover over the links. See http://laserdiscvault(dot)com. The manufacturers menu is the one called "Collections". It's driving me crazy to make this behavior stop..

So far I have gotten that the li elements on hover are taking all and possibly more of their available half-box width, which is the proximate cause of the jumpiness. There are so many rules that involve li and hover selectors that I haven't found a more precise cause yet. I really need to have a printout so I can cross-reference and highlight rules easier...

Hmmm ... the Collections item is defined with class dropdown_2columns but then you only have one <div class="col_2a firstcolumn"> defined within that div. I'm pretty sure that the dropdown_2columns is (er) expecting two col_2x class divs within it.

Update: Try defining it with the col_2 class instead of col_2a; that's what's used on the categories ...

Shoot forgot about that.. let me look when I get home form work tonight.. I added that stupid col_2a because I thought it would solve the other problem I was having with the categories.. Forgot it was still there..

Changing the col_2a to col_2 fixes some, but not all of the 'jumps'. Somewhere in the stylesheet, there's a margin-right: 35px that's being added to the col_2 li's on hover.

And finally after making the fix above, I realized that the manufacturers needed to be displayed in 3 columns.. thanks to this post I now have the manufacturers in 3 columns.. Thanks Anne.. That site gave me the hints I needed..

NOW I can FINALLY stop messing with this menu.. WHEW!!!

Hi, I am getting extremely frustrated as I'm not a programmer and apparently over my head. I did a manual install of 1.5.1 using ZC install and about 15 various add-ons. Each add-on was tested after install and worked. onlinewinesale.com is the site under construction. This is my host info:

Server OS: Linux 2.6.32-20130307.60.9.bh6.x86_64 Database: MySQL 5.5.30
HTTP Server: Apache
PHP Version: 5.3.23 (Zend: 2.3.0) PHP Safe Mode: Off

All was going well until I installed mega-menu or so I thought. I have many sub-categories in a few categories and I'm not even done entering them. The columns for the sub's go beyond the bottom of the page and I can't scroll down. Should you be able to just keep on moving the mouse down and the column would grow longer? If not, is there a way to break these long columns up into multiple side-by-side columns? I seem to need something similar to what Aussie Sapphire did which was referenced in post #142.

To make matters worse, I use Firefox and I also just realized that there's a huge formating problem with IE9. I don't know when or what happened and need to troubleshoot that. I've switched to the default Zencart Classic template and get the same results so I don't believe that it's the result of all the changes that I've made to the Avignon template that I'm using. I'm hoping to find the problem in a css file somewhere as I've made changes to all of them. So, if you look at the site, please use Chrome or Firefox which seem to display everything properly. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The css cross browser problem is not related to the mega menu module.

Hi Anne, I have this menu through the london grunge template. i was wondering if anyone had had success with adding a sidebox to the dropdown menu? I was trying to add one (that i modded myself, DVD studios) similar to record companies; i pretty much just copied the code for manufacturers on tpl_mega_menu and changed the calling key to studios_ . It correctly lists the studios i entered, but it doesn't map them properly to the items i have connected to those studios, which the sidebox i made does. I was wondering if there is some coding for manufacturers that wouldn't match studios (or record companies, the included extra) or something. Hey; do you have any more info on how specifically to do this? i installed the centerboxes plugin just to see if i could mess around, but i'm not quite sure what code to put where in the mega menu; (i'm not a super php-er an im not quite sure what a function call is, sorry :P)

I forgot that it's not a function call anymore, but a require(). The readme at the bottom of the Additional Information section says

For some reason in internet explorer the last category "Figures" jumps down to the next row with out any css edits. I am testing it in internet explorer 9.

If you make changes to the menu, you will need to cross browser test again. You can add an IE9 specific style sheet. Do a google search for the specifics of the implementation. You will most likely need to adjust padding or margins.

Your menu looks appropriate for my website. Just one question: Instead of listing all the categories under the category heading, we would like to list our 4 top categories so boys 4-7, boys 8-12, girls 4.7 etc.

Is this an easy tweak using the plugin? Please advise.

I have gone through both forum threads including the Abbington (all 68 pages of it) and where categories are briefly touched on throughout both the one time someone asks the same question that I did, they're told it requires customisation.

I even looked on the Picaflor-Azul forum and the same thing was said to someone else there.

If you want to make changes to the css I would strongly recommend using the firefox web developer tools/firebug. Firebug will tell you which line of the css you need to edit.

I am happy that you like the module. You will need to edit the includes/templates/override/common/tpl_mega_menu.php file. You will make your changes using xhtml and css.

Thank you for this stand alone mod. I have it installed and have been playing around with it for the last couple of days. I am however, stuck and am looking to see if you (or someone else who may know what I am doing wrong) would be kind enough to point me to the right direction. This site is a clean ZC 1.5.1 install with column divider pro, footer menu and Image Handler 4 installed.

I have a large list of manufacturer's that I am trying to display in either 3 or more columns. I changed the tpl_mega_menu.php to say this:

I was playing with the css, as I knew the solution was in the css file. I was able to fix the problem I caused. I had to add .mega-menu .dropdown_3columns under /* bof drop down styles */, then .mega-menu li:hover .dropdown_3columns under/* bof drop down on mouse hover left aligned */. That seemed to have fixed the issue.

After trying it out for quite awhile now I decided that it was best to put our categories back in a sidebox. I now have the extra link above in the mega menu with the drops that will behave as they should. Removing the categories was needed for us because when the menu was there, and then hovered, the links would appear but to actually click on it you needed to go almost midway to the right of listed name to be able the click on it. Otherwise it would just close the hover totally.

Could be cause we have many categories with several subs, it also made for an extremely long listing, hence putting it back to the sidebox.

The mega-menu is great to have as a feature on non drop templates and is still a might different than the clunkier previous version someone else had years ago.

The only problem I have is a slight jerk when going from one menu tab to another. ai fixed it on another store site...LOL...but it did not work on mine so not sure what happened....course I had to do quite a bit of fixing at that site. I can live with the slight jerk. I tried using firebug but it was too confusing so I try using web developer.

Tracking down the "jogs" can be laborous, but it usually has to do with paddings/margins being slightly off in the menu elements ;)

Love the Menu. My buddy found it on the Oxford Dark layout and he loved how it was laid out. I have been able to change colors and all that no problem. He wants to add a menu item and I have looked and searched for 2 days now trying to find this. Where and how do I do this? Thanks Anne!

Hi Anne
I'm looking to add a 'subject' box to the contact us drop down in the menu. I have used http://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=226 and it works fine for the regular contact form but I can't seem to be able to add 'subject' to the mega menu so instead the mini form redirects to the main contact form requesting I fill in the subject there instead.

yup that is for sure...I got a migraine chasing down the jerkiness but all areas concerning the links/hovers all have same settings for margin/padding but will keep trying until I beat it up and it flies right...lol

If you take a look at the original stylesheet_mega_menu.css file you will see that many of the paddings and margins are not the same. This might be your problem.

That's what makes my store a terror at times...mind of its own. There was absolutely no jerking when I had the categories in the menu. the slight jerk started when I removed the categories menu...

Weird is what it is...but I will try it again and again with hopes of it behaving eventually.

I am trying achieve the same effect from the 'information' tab for my category tabs, can someone point me in the direction of creating a 3 or 4 or even 5 column display for the 'shop/category' tab in the header menu? I have read and reread suggested tutorials and threads but can not pin point where or what I need to edit to make it display.

I have managed to split the category tab into 2 columns at the moment, and have started to customise my own links (rather than the auto category links appearing, I am arranging them under their own header).

The only problem I am having is the second column is sitting under the first column? Not side by side. Any idea how I can rectify this??

Hi, I'm having trouble figuring out how to have one of the drop down items in the menu bar link to an external link. Under "Shop Our Products" in the menu bar, I have an item named "Scent Guide" which I would like to link to an external page. Where in the code would I alter that?

The easiest way is to not make this a category and just add the link to the includes/templates/override/common/tpl_header.php file.

I am having a issue with my submenu's on my menu - they are showing as standard parent categories on the drop down, rather than either not displaying or opening to right on hover over.

The new master categories is 'Mk3 Sorted - Temp', with the first submenu 'Interior'. As the screenshot should show, the submenu is showing just like the master which is making the drop down long and appearing unsorted.

So after a long night of messing with it (the sun is starting to rise..).. it looks like everything in the menu is defined as UL CLASS = LEVEL2, where I assume that the subcats should be LEVEL3. I'm not quite sure how or where to make the change though if indeed this is the issue.

Thank you for the quick reply Anne.

I believe that I have not opened or looked at the includes/classes/categories_ul_generator.php , so it should be original.
The /includes/templates/glasgow_neat/common/tpl_mega_menu.php (I assume you meant PHP not CSS, as I do not have any CSS files in that directory) has been modified for content, but I hope nothing relating to specific coding.. I am trying to manually compare it to the original file included in the ZIP pack.

My manual comparison didn't show anything that could be fowling it up in either file unfortunately. I still don't know why the subcats aren't being assigned to level 3..

I would defnitiely start over with a fresh install of the module and then test the menu very carefully after each change you make.

I've installed your Sheffield Blue free theme which includes the mega-menu, I would like to know what must be done to change the font colours?

I managed to change the colour for the top of the menu sections, but now all the menu items are invisible..

I have it in a shade of brown, white background, with blue a:hover applied. Perhaps you could take a look please?

You're right, I do have firebug installed and have attempted to use it to adjust the menu styling. Problem is the menu items require you to hover over, then inspect and by the time I look at the console the information has moved and is therefore invalid. That or I can change some style element in firebug, apply the same change in the css and get a different/unexpected result.

Looking for a little help customising Mega-menu

We’ve made a decision to have 9 new Top level categories along a horizontal navigation marked on the attached image in pink. This has been done by taking the standard megamenu dropdown labelled “shop” and copying that piece of code from the tpl megamenu file 9 times and changing the name at the top of each.

The dropdown, which is marked in blue, is what would usually be Top level cats, and the sub of that, which is marked in green, would be the level 2.

What I’m trying to do is get the green bit where the blue bit should be. I simply need to move everything up a level, and find some way to tie that in to my own pink 9 top categories.

I’ve looked at the megamenu generator and other pieces of code with no joy.

Can anyone give me any starters on how this can be achieved?
