True, I already had doubts about that part of my comments soon after posting.Quote:
You don't understand me. I do not ask "how?".
That appears to be very true :DQuote:
I myself know this very well and know perfectly my own rss feed code.
Thanks a lot for the update! I updated and did some quick tests, and as far as I can see it works great :thumbsup:
First of all: THANK YOU, ANDREW FOR ALL YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS
I have 2 questions:
1) The button "buy now" seems to donīt work for me (lates version of the mod installed)
2) Do you think is convenient to disallow rss_feed for robots to avoid duplicate content?
Another think:
Checkin validation of feed at Feed Validator this is the result:
This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.
- line 23, column 0: description should not contain onmouseover attribute [help]
<input type="hidden" name="cart_quantity" value="1" /><input type="hidden" n ...
- line 23, column 0: description should not contain onmouseout attribute [help]
<input type="hidden" name="cart_quantity" value="1" /><input type="hidden" n ...
- line 36, column 2: Missing atom:link with rel="self" [help]
</channel>

I'm confused... :blink:
I just downloaded the RSS feed and there were two SQL files. One called install and the other called update_2_0_2. I got the first one installed (copy and pasted like the instructions said) but the second one I keep getting errors. I tried copy and past via Zen Cart SQL patch uploader and I even tried to just upload the file.
The error i get is:
ok, second part of my problem...Code:1062 Duplicate entry 'RSS_HOMEPAGE_FEED' for key 2
in:
[INSERT INTO zen_configuration (configuration_id, configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, date_added, use_function, set_function) VALUES (NULL, 'RSS Home Page Feed', 'RSS_HOMEPAGE_FEED', '', 'RSS Home Page Feed', @configuration_group_id, 8, NOW(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array(\'news\', \'new_products\', \'upcoming\', \'featured\', \'specials\', \'products\', \'categories\'),'), (NULL, 'RSS Default Feed', 'RSS_DEFAULT_FEED', '', 'RSS Default Feed', @configuration_group_id, 8, NOW(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array(\'news\', \'new_products\', \'upcoming\', \'featured\', \'specials\', \'products\', \'categories\'),');]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.
I thought I could still get it to work even without the patch, but no such luck. Not sure if my settings are correct but I installed the RSS in my footer, clicked on it and got this error message..
Code:

Location: http://barkandstuff.com/shop/index.php?main_page=rss_feed&feed=categories
Line Number 2, Column 1:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
any help would be much appreciated.

And for the last point, i tried to append echo rss_feed_link to the a href of Google. I supposed that itīs a trouble with the syntaxis, but iīm unable of make it working correctly, doesnīt generate a correct link for thge rss page
XSL
Where I say that you can do it from admin??? I say that you can do it updating script. Write you own update for this script.
echo rss_feed_linkto the a href of Google??????????? I think I don't understand you. May more details?
Yes: For sending rss feed to google reader or igoogle the code for the button is: [FONT=Courier New]<a href="http://fusion.google.com/add?feedurl=[FEED_URL]">

Code:<a href="http://fusion.google.com/add?feedurl=<?php list($feed, ) = rss_feed_current_page(); echo zen_href_link(FILENAME_RSS_FEED, 'feed=' . $feed); ?>">

Thanks a lot, Andrew:I will try it this afternoon and inform of working process.
thank you very much.
Dear developer of this excellent mod,
Just wanna inform you that the included installation sql patch will delete configuration_key with configuration_group_id = 0
The effected keys are
PRODUCTS_OPTIONS_TYPE_SELECT
UPLOAD_PREFIX
TEXT_PREFIX
Deletion of above keys will effect the proper functionality of Zen Cart.
surf7.net
Thanks!
Please execute this sql to restore deleted records:
Code:INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function) VALUES ('Product option type Select', 'PRODUCTS_OPTIONS_TYPE_SELECT', '0', 'The number representing the Select type of product option.', 0, NULL, now(), now(), NULL, NULL);
INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function) VALUES ('Upload prefix', 'UPLOAD_PREFIX', 'upload_', 'Prefix used to differentiate between upload options and other options', 0, NULL, now(), now(), NULL, NULL);
INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function) VALUES ('Text prefix', 'TEXT_PREFIX', 'txt_', 'Prefix used to differentiate between text option values and other option values', 0, NULL, now(), now(), NULL, NULL);
I donīt know which implications it may have, but the mod generates the same url feed for products and for products reviews
Andrew,
Is their a way to have items on the feed broken out in to the same categories as they are in the cart opposed to just seeing "All"?

I added that info to the footer and it works great.
Did someone say that had the code to make the "buy" buttons work in IE?
The google button in the footer. The RSS button is near the description in the item pages.

Andrew,
I'd like to release a small update to your module with your permission. I'll be adding the capability to include Magic SEO URLs, a function that many Zenners have been requesting in other modules. Of all the modules, I believe this would be the most important one to include them in. There was a bug fix you posted for those uninstalling the module, did you want to include that in the next update? If so, please PM me any updated files before I release the update.
I'll just send you the updates by email when I'm finished.
A couple of pages back a user stated that she is having the following issue:
"xml declaration not at start of external entity"
Andrew, this means that a blank line is being printed before the xml declaration.
I've done a fresh install on another website and have run into this error. I'm not sure what could cause this...
numinix,
Thanks.
But I do not use modules that violate the internal structure zen-cart. I use only standard classes and functions. zen-cart created a truly magical tool to increase the capacity of the store, without modifying the kernel code. All changes to the scripts must be transparent for all zen-cart component.
I can advise to issue your own parallel version of rss feeder with support for seo magic, image handler and the like.
Yes. A lot of updates, but I have no time :( May be next week...
Good point. I won't release it publicly then and anyone who needs it can contact me by PM. This is to be able to output Magic SEO URLs (a commercial script). If you have this module installed, this would be an important tool for PageRank as all of your submitted feeds would contain the URLs (SEO) that you are trying to promote rather than the PHP URLs that you are no longer using.
Any idea why there are blank spaces at the beginning of the file causing this parsing error:
Please visit http://www.tiledepot.us/ and click on the RSS icon for an example. When you view source you'll see the spacing that is not found in my website: http://www.numinix.com. It is obviously something external to the RSS contribution, but I would still like to know which files I should be checking in that case...?Quote:
xml declaration not at start of external entity
Really? You can prove it?
What happens with your SEO URLs when you in the name of the product, correct typo? Or just a little bit to change the name of the product in accordance with the recommendations seo?
I can't reproduce this error :( Check rss_feed.php class.

Thank you Misty
Ok let's pretend you just installed SEO URLs. Now whenever you submit your deep links to directories or other sites link to your pages, they are going to use the SEO URLs that are displayed when they browse your site.
When you create an RSS feed and submit it to many feed and blog sites, you've created a large number of links back into your site. It would be optimal to use the same URLs as the ones that are already being promoted rather than a different PHP URL. It goes back to the argument that numinix.com is different than www.numinix.com. Both of these addresses will have a different PageRank. So it is best to stick to one format in all of your links, just the same as with PHP URLs vs SEO URLs.
I am not endorsing SEO URLs at all. I'm merely saying that if youve decided to go this road, you need to stick with it in all of your links.
Since the add-on is based on a commercial script, I've added it as a commercial product on my website. All of my other contributions will still remain free.
Hello there.
Question regarding the problem with duplicate content from two URLs: regular URL and and rss feed generated URL: See the URLs below:
rss feed URL
vs
regular URL
Will Google penalize (or drop) one of the URLs as shown above from their database due to both URLs are indeed with the same content.
And how this module affects the organic search results from the major search engines?
Somebody out there probably did some research regarding this. Please share...
I have a weird problem.
24h after installed this contrib. on my test site and my website I have this msg:
:oops:

like brimsjewelry and misty before but with the latest version (I tried 2.0.7 and 2.0.5).
Of course I cannot perform a full restore of the database (Powweb...) even if you have a full backup but if I know which part of the dadatabase to restore I might be able to fix it ...
I didnīt see any issue with MySQL 5.0.45 and this contrib.
The only info I have is taht just after the installation I have another error:
'SQLPATCH', 'Cannot insert configuration_key "" because it already exists', '2007-11-08 11:31:41', 'INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_id, configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, date_added, use_function, set_function) VALUES'
The RSS is generated and available even after this msg.
If somebody have any idea, well it would be just great.

I think it explains in the readme.txt how to set it up to use Ultimate SEO URLs. Your URLs on your website should be the same as in your feeds. For those using Magic SEO URLs, I've released an add-on on my website that also works for all my feeds as well as Andrew's RSS. I'll be updating it to work with many more modules as well.
@motti:
It looks like you increased the "Default Products Limit" value too much and your thumbnails are about 10x the filesize they should be. It would not suprise me if this combination "kills" the server. Not sure how many products you are showing, but 400 products x 25kb per average image x nr of viewing visitors (for example) is a lot of data to feed.Quote:
My RSS feed got my site down for few minute, few times already today, “This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota “ after calling the hosting the told me I need to fix or remove the RSS feed because it take too much of time allowed
Would installing image handler fix his issue?
I don't use image handler (so I can not be 100% sure if it works for this rss feed), but I am quite sure that would solve the thumbnail filesize issue that motti has.
Of course, if thousands of products + descriptions + thumbnails are "fed" for example (I did not count), alike problems might still occur (and I think that is why Andrew added the limit, and set it a lot lower by default)
(assuming I understood what was exactly meant by "this issue" :-) )
[FONT=Times New Roman]Thank you paulm[/FONT]

[FONT=Times New Roman]That make lots of sense, I have other RSS that has no picture in it, and I never had that issue with that version[/FONT]

Hi,
I've noticed that if you are using IH(Image handler) that the IH_VERSION my have been removed when installing older versions of this mod (cause it has a configuration_group_id = 0)
I think you need to do something like I've outlined below to restore it. Not sure if this is correct though especially the last function in the list of values.
Can someone who knows their SQL verify and correct this.
Also just wanted to ask a SQL question while I'm here. :smile:
Can someone explain, or point me in the direction of an explanation to a few SQL commands I've noticed while looking at this, they are:
SET @configuration_group_id=0;
and
SELECT @configuration_group_id:=configuration_group_id
I'm trying to figure out what the "@" does and the ":=" does in these statements, i can infer their meaning from the commands, but i couldn't find a definitive answer on the web .
Thanks.
AGAIN, DON"T APPLY THIS SQL UNTIL IT IS VERIFIED AND CORRECTED!
PHP Code:
INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function)
VALUES ('Image Handler Version', 'IH_VERSION', '2.0', 'This is used by image handler to check if the data...', 0, 100, now(), now(), NULL, zen_cfg_textarea_small());
v 2.0.8 28.10.2007 16:44
1. Add <atom:link href="xxxx" rel="self" type="application/rss+xml" />
2. Lot of little cosmetic changes, code optimization.
3. Some bugs fixed.
4. Add two functions: rss_feed_href() and rss_feed_name().
5. Bug fix in *.sql.
6. Clear html onmouseout and onmouseover in buynow button.
THANKS A LOT ANDREW!!. :clap:
I WILL INSTALL YOUR NEW VERSION TOMORROW (13 TUESDAY ISNīT A GOOD DAY IN SPAIN)
It Isnīt At Download Area
I have installed v 2.0.7 27.10.2007. Is it necessary to run the update 2_0_2 sql?
Hi,
I was looking at installing this mod, but then I looked in the sql install file and saw these lines:
will this not just delete everything with a configuration_group_id = 0, What is this SQL for? I'm not sure why something needs to be deleted when you are installing from scratch with no previous versions installed.PHP Code:
SET @configuration_group_id=0;
SELECT (@configuration_group_id:=configuration_group_id) FROM configuration_group WHERE configuration_group_title= 'RSS Feed' LIMIT 1;
DELETE FROM configuration WHERE configuration_group_id = @configuration_group_id AND configuration_group_id != 0;
DELETE FROM configuration_group WHERE configuration_group_id = @configuration_group_id AND configuration_group_id != 0;
DELETE FROM configuration WHERE configuration_key = 'RSS_FEED_VERSION';
Thanks for any help. :smile:
:oops: Maybe it doesn't delete things with configuration_group_id = 0
My mistake, still not quite sure what this SQL is for though? Any explanations would be most welcome.PHP Code:
configuration_group_id != 0
Thanks
I'm on a roll tonight so I might as well carry on posting. :smile:
I was just wondering what sites people submit their rss feeds to. I've had a look around but a lot of sites seem to be aimed more at news feeds or blogs.
If some ones got a top 10 that would be great.
Just notification:
Dont put <table></table> in you product descriptions.
THe RSS feeder doesnot support.
And I have installed the This wonderful mod couples of days.
It seems normal.
It can be read by good RSS Reader.
But when i sue the RSS SUBMIT . This software told me the URL i generated via This Mod is not An RSS FeeD URL. I can not promote the webpage from RSS Submit software which is very good for maketing , I think.
Can any boby point a solutions?
Thanks
I've installed everything but all of my feeds are simply blank. Not even an XML declaration. IE gives me this error when I try to view the blank feeds:
"XML document must have a top level element.
Line: 0 Character: 0"
My store has products in it, yes. And I configured the feed settings in the configuration panel. So I'm a little stumped. Any ideas?
Thanks
To partially answer my own question, for some strange reason when I manually enter a feed URL like this:
//localhost/zen-cart/index.php?main_page=rss_feed&feed=categories&cPath=65
..the feed works with the & written as & and this is how the feed link is written in the source of the page. However, when you click on the links to the feeds on the page, the URL isn't escaped...
//localhost/zen-cart/index.php?main_page=rss_feed&feed=categories&cPath=65
And that "normal" link doesn't work.. just a blank page.
This is on IE7. Quite baffled.
Hi,
Forgive me to ask these basic questions as I don't know much about RSS feed. How do we set up the following configuration parameters?
RSS Home Page Feed: (Which one should I use? Where does it appear?)
RSS Default Feed: (Which one should I use? Where does it appear?)
Strip tags: (What is this?)
Categories for Products: (Should I use master or all?)
Use Google NameSpace: (What is this?)
Also, what do we do after installing and setting up this module? How do we make use of it? Thanks in advance.

Hello. We have installed RSS Feed (same as Rss2 ?) http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=733
Its working on all the product pages but not on the shop/index.php page. Should it work there? The images rotate so I have a feeling that it is not designed to work on that page.
Please advise.

Hi All,
Thanks for reading!
I would like to grab rss feeds from the domain that the feed is currently installed on amd display them on index.php under another domain.
I should say that I really dont know much about any of this and at best so far have just gotten errors.
I dont know how to tell my index.php to grab those rss results or how to tell my index.php how to display the rss results.
Please some help here to get me started.
Thnaks,
John
Нou are mistaken thread. You need rss scroller.
Hi.. I recently upgraded to ZC version 1.3.7. This is the first sqlpatch i've tried to run, and when I copy and paste the install.sql contents and hit Send, I get the following error:
406 Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /admin/sqlpatch.php could not be found on this server.
Has anyone had a similar problem with sqlpatch after an upgrade? I have searched the forums but only found the 406 error related to other files and so far cannot find a fix for this. Would really like to install this module!
thanks in advance for any help,
Deanna

I have installed it a re-installed several times. To also notice that on the
Admin->Configuration=RDD Feed

PLEASE HELP I would to work this module
Version: v 2.0.8
Zen Cart 1.3.8 (could be that ????)
Template Cherry Zen
And several other modules that I did not have any major problems. nor do I have. But I am stuck on this one
THANK YOU SO MUCH
For anyone else having this problem. I finally found what was causing it for me was some blank lines at the end of some custom sidebox language define pages. When these files were loaded the blank lines were loaded up to ahead of the doc declaration, the required first line for this rss mod, i.e no space before. this caused all my troubles.
:smile:
Hi... how do you get the price to show?? I've searched the thread, but only found a couple people that got it work, but they didn't say how. I checked out your feed and do see the price at the bottom.
So... how do you get the price to show (my price is set to "true" already in rss admin), and is it possible to put the price next to the description (and if so, how do you do it?)
my feed is here:

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!
It is evident that this is VERY picky when coming to blank lines.
The way I solved it was to overwrite the template files over the old ones and now it works.
BUT after playing so many times I screwed up and can not get the Menu in the adminstration. Each time I want to run the SQL gives me error like its install already.
Is there any way to fix this. Thank you in advance for your help

PS: Buy buttons and Pictures are not showing either in firefox or IE 7.
However only in IE 7 is a link for the pictures.
At my site, you can view images with ie7 feer reader. And thatīs the problem: independant if the "unallow" command for images, ie7 feed reader is feeding the images!!!!
How can this be disallowed?
any support here?

The <xml> declaration appearing below a blank line is a big problem. Basically, any space above the opening <?php and closing ?> in an auto-loaded file will cause this to happen.
Andrew, what do you recommend?
Both of the language files in the contribution have an extra blank line after the closing ?>
Removing that might prevent the blank line you're talking about in the generated xml output.
The closing ?> can be skipped altogether if it's the last line of the file, which prevents the "blank line" issue from happening:
