I am also trying to make categories and subcategory listing on lext side box...
I have used ur code but im not getting out put..
one thing.... im not clear where to include the simple_categories_tree_generator.php and config.simple_categories_tree_generator.php .
I have place them as u have redirect but still not getting out put...
can u please tell me proper flow of ur code what should i change n what i should add ?

@focus360: 1 of the things you can do, is to explode just at 1 place, then copy that array in to a var so you dont have to explode too many times.
Another thing is to maybe re-think the whole process again, see why you need to do that, is there another way around.
@MOni: I already placed the files in the folders they should be in, just look for those folders in your ZC installation.
@MOni: got your pm. Please list all the package files you currently have on the server, and their locations here. And also where you currently place the out code.

I have installed your mod but can't get it to work/show. Categories display just the same as it was before adding your files. Files are placed exactly as you have it. I even went through your directions like 10 times and made sure all the files are exactly where they should be and overwrites are exact.
Is there somewhere I have to turn this on in admin or something?:lookaroun I can't seem to figure out what I have not done to get it to work.

Kinda weird, check if you are using over-ride file, because if you do you need to edit the over-ride file instead of the default file.

Dohh, lol, if you rename the file header_php_.php Zencart will still load it. (just found out this one)

I have the all products in sub-categories installed, and all is working great. However I have just noticed that, the sort order is not functioning. It always displays the products alphabetically until it reaches the deepest sub-cat when it shows the products as they should be (by sort order).
Is this an error in my installation or are you not able to display via sort order when all products in sub-cats are being displayed?

Yup, create new. This is if you want to create a new sidebox where you can display the tree.
Otherwise, you can just place the code (see readme file sample) anywhere you want to display that tree. You can have multiple trees displayed at various places on one page.
OK, I think I'm starting to get this a little better. I'm going to create the two new files 'my_categories.php' and 'tpl_my_categories.php'.
I want to have the expanded category tree replace the categories tree showing now in my left sidebox.
I'm confused about what code I need to call my new function from so that I get the expanded version and suppress the one that's showing now?

Once you created those files, you can go to admin->tools->layout box controller to disable your current category sidebox and enable the new one.
OK, everything is now in the correct place with the correct file names. It showed in the sidebox layout menu and I was able to turn it on. I have an error somewhere in my code because nothing is showing on my sidebar now.
I haven't had to debug code for anything on my site so far so I'll search through the forums to figure out how to do that and let you know what error I'm getting.

Thank you yellow, I did install that debug module and found my error. A missing ';' in my version of 'my_categories.php'. Everything is working the correct way now, yay:clap:
OK, now for a few more questions: :smile:
1. I did some reading on unordered lists. It seems like the bullets at each of my three levels are defaults. Any easy way for me to customize the look of these? I'd like to remove the bullet completely from Level 1, use the solid bullet for level two and the solid square for level 3.
2. Can I specify the amount of the indent in the stylesheet somehow? For example, I'd like each level to indent just a bit so that the total width of my sidebox footprint is smaller.
3. I did notice that the tree picks up categories that are disabled. I'm just going to remove these categories for now until I am ready to fully populate them for my shop.

Thanks for the links. I think I've reached my limit in being able to make these types of changes. I got the bullet symbols and their colors to change. I've tried to trial and error getting the positioning to change but have failed at that.
I've also noticed that when I click on the top level Category (Cloth, Pattern or Tool) I end up with the following error:
Not Found
The requested URL http:// was not found on this server.
All the sub categories correctly link to where they're going.
Any insights?

to resolve the top level category issue - do the following:

Sorry for the last post, it's not working now. I had a couple of categories made up with 2 products in each and it worked fine. But then I added a third category with a new product, and it didn't find the new products I've added. No matter where I add them it just finds the ones in those original two categories. What's happening?

I have noticed on my test site that if you only go part way down the categories tree and click on the product (as they are showing up in parent categories now :D) the breadcrumbs only show to where you navigated, not where the product is situated.
BUT...
If I click on it through the "New Products" field it comes up with the full path of the product. Is there any way to port the breadcrumbs function from the New Products file so that all products come up with the full breadcrumbs path?

I thing I understand that all the tweaking is to be done in the:

Also observed another problem:
The parent category link is broken. It points to "www.domainname.com/128" where I believe the "128" is the category id.
Is there a way to remove the Parent cat link?

i dowloaded all_sub_cats_products.zip and have it installed.
for each categories i get what i want except the index page.
cause i dont want it shows all products on my index page. for the index page i only want to show one photo, and new products, featured products, special products below the photo.
how to modify it then? thanks.

Thank-you, Yellow1912, the confusion of files is beginning to make sense now and I can now more clearly see the scale of potential visualised by other people posting on this thread.
So my next question is how do I get this working?
I can see that first of all I need to get Simple Catergory Tree working, so I have uploaded the auto_loaders file and the classes file, but am now not sure where to go from here.
I have checked the Layout Boxes Controller but don't see anything there, so is there where I need to create two files of my own? ...and where would they go ...and what should they contain to get me going?
I don't need a precise idiot's guide, here - just some pointers whilst I familiarise myself with the file structure of Zen Cart and apply some of what I have seen already in the posts on this thread.
If I remember correctly, I included in the readme a very short example as how to create a new sidebox that contains the new category tree. Is the instruction included in the package you downloaded? Did you have any problem following the instruction? Or did you follow it yet the sidebox still doesnt show up in admin?

You got it right.
Note that the code just shows you how to create a new sidebox which contains the new category tree.
You can follow the example to create more than 1 sideboxes (say 1 sidebox only show the top categories, while the other one only shows the subcategories of the current visited category)
And nothing can stop you from displaying the tree ANYWHERE on your site:

That code explains where I went wrong when I first tried to use this - blank tpl_my_categories.php...
Then the 0,2 references from the root of the category tree and depth (number of levels), so change according to preference?
Then (for anyone else reading this) the li can be styled through CSS and given a CSS class name.
In case you had not already guessed I am asking some of questions in order to make things perfectly clear not just for myself, but also for anyone else wanting to use your contributions.
Taken from the readme:
This class is very simple to use, you have only a few functions that you can call:

* $divider will be put between children (sub cats same level), so be careful when you use it along with parent_tag and child_tag, you may have invalid html code.
* $categories: the root of the tree, what it to start else where? pass the cat id there.
For instance, here is the code I used to build a tree based on the current Category current visiting:

* $include_root: this is interesting, usually when you build a tree, you dont want to include the root of that tree, however, if you want to, set this to true.
* $strict: this is alsu interesting: the category tree will auto expand when you go into deeper sub cat (even if the max_level is exceeded). However, if you want it to always stick to the max level strictly, set this to true.
b. retrieve_cpath($categories_id)
--> The name said it all, you passed in the cat id, you get the whole cPath back, this will even accept cPath (in case you have part of the cPath and want to get back the complete cPath)
c. retrieve_categories_tree_array()
--> return the whole category tree, in case you want to play with it
d. retrieve_deepest_cats_array($categories_id)
--> Very very useful one, this one will return the deepest level sub cats of any given cat id. Given the way ZC works, you know that these cats are the ones that actually hold products. If you want to retrieve all products of a parent cat, this is the one you need.
This function returns an array of cat id
e. build_deepest_level_children()
--> if you want to use the function above(d), make sure you call this one first, this will build the info needed.

Does this add its functionaliy automatically to an existing tree structure, eg: a successfully implemented my_categories tree once installed?

I am going to try and put all this (the last page or so!) into place now because I have just reinstalled the cart (again).

The tree is in place (using simple_categories_tree only, at the moment).
It seems that you have to design a box and to code it into define_main_page in order to get it to display in the centercolumn area, otherwise use left or right column boxes. - It cannot be placed as a box in center area unless the left column is enabled in admin, when it can be placed using the single column setting in the Layout Boxes Controller (not for those who don't know :D ).
The problem I am having, though, is that it will not retrieve deepest_level_children. In fact it won't even match the default display shown by the default Zen Cart categories box.
I have tried all kinds of variations on the code snippets from the readme file and cannot even get it to generate an error so I know where I am going wrong!
I am fairly certain that the problem is something simple, like nested brackets or full statements that can be appended and don't need to be stated in full, so I was wondering if you could you provide a complete string with all variables or some sample strings, please, so I can check my syntax?
I believe that the function to retrieve deepest levels is only available in the newer version of the module, which is included in the all sub cats products package.Quote:

Which means you have a syntax error on that line :), and since I cant see that line I dont know what it is.

And the code you posted is wrong by the way, what are you trying to do with retrieve_cpath()?
I am just trying to make the tree display as follows:
category1
subcategory1
product1
category2
subcategory2
product2
etc.
If $session needs to define all that is then called on by $content to build the desired tree it is logical to assume that all that needs to be defined, except the layout parameters (which appear to be handled by $content), needs to be defined in the $session, so I need to work out some way of entering more definitions into the $session line or some way of being able to call on multiple $session variables in the $content line.
Note:
This tree does not contain product, you will have to modify it if you want it to do what you want.
I think you may need to read more about php regarding:
1. Class and methods
2. Session
You will also need to know that $content is simply a normal variable, it just happens that the way Zen sidebox works is: you stuff all the content of the sidebox into this variable, and Zen will print it out for you.
You can always do something like

Yes, the tree does not go to product level, you will have to add that if you want to, basically it's not so hard, just traverse the tree and query products id then attach them there.
This type of functionality is not planned for this module in any near future, but you can add if you want to.
There is a module in the download that returns a tree with product level, however.

Right, I've added a 'li' value to accomodate the subcategory line, but cannot get the subcategory to display - I just get li showing where the subcategory should be.
(The first number in the brackets indicates the category ID, so a value of 0 shows all category IDs, but 1 would only show category 1, 2 for category 2 only, etc. whilst the second number controls the subcategories... if you can get them to display, that is).
So, it looks like even with the correct syntax subcategories, like actual products, cannot be displayed either ...and certainly not in any kind of unordered list.

Subcategories can be displayed, if not what is the use of a category tree? products are not supported by this tree tho. You really need to read php document by the way, practice is good but you need a base knowledge first, just hacking around the code will waste you more time.Quote:

All its features along with instructions and such are listed in the readme file. It is the user's responsibility to read and understand how the code works, this module is for to normal users who just want some plug and play feature, this one is for someone who at least has the base knowledge of coding.
From all the sample codes you posted, it shows that you dont even have such knowledge (missing a semicolon when calling function, or not knowing how to call a class method). Such very basic knowledge have to be learned, which is why I suggest you read more about php and its syntax etc... before trying to hack around. (I read a 350 pages book before I started years ago, and I had Java, C and C++ background before working on PHP)
More over, you didn't even try to read the readme file carefully, or maybe you did read it carefully but didnt get it because of my poor English skill?
Anyhow, like I mentioned, there is a module in the add-on that does exactly what you want (list all the cats and products on the tree). It will help you.

Hello, my name is Jamie, I am very new to all of this stuff and I have no knowledge of code. I am looking at two features you have been talking about:
all_subcats_products
and simple category tree
The only thing that I am looking to do, is have my categories all listed to the left. In order to see the sub categories you have to click on the category. I do not like that once you click on the category you will see all the categories, and only pop up new product from the main category. I want it to work that when you click on the main category it will show all products , and you will have the choice to click on any of the subcategories separetly to get more specific.
If I am correct, then you mod of all_subcats_products is the one to use to accomplish this?
If not which is the correct one?
Also, where can I get the newest version of it?
On your page yellow I do see the mod for the trees but not the all_subcats_products

how can i change the indent of subcategories. It seems to be to far from parent category.
i would like it to look like:

I should not call it Simple Tree tho, because seem like many ppl dont think it's that simple, any how, to sum it up:

on a recent project, I have 3 boxes: grand parent, parent, and children. Parent box links depend on which category is currently active on the grandparent box, and children box display links depending on links currently active on parent.
With this module, you can tweak it to anything you want, expanded category, ajax tree type etc....
Well, but again we have people having frustrating time with this module in the past since they dont know php, and you HAVE to know a bit about PHP to well, at least know which parameters you should pass into the function.
