Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I'm almost at my wits end so to speak trying to get this plugin to work especialiy consider we have a 5 figure ppc spend monthly and have lost all ability to track conversions. We had a 1.3x version of zen and it worked perfectly for conversion tracking of our ppc. Then we upgraded to the latest zen, very carefully. at the time we also upgraded our template from "black_pure_free" to "westminster new responsive".
now the ppc tracking doesnt work at all. I mean nothing. analytics seems to be working to an extent although it is not perfectly tracking but we are more concerned about ppc. I don't even know where to look I've installed, uninstalled this more than a few times and went thru it file by file trying to figure out why it is not working but am at a loss.

If you apply the appropriate basic Zen Cart upgrades to your older template (ie: apply all the changes of the new version onto the files in your old template), does that template then handle your analytics correctly? If so, then your new template is suspect.

Wondering if the OP doesn't have the CSS/JS Loader installed?? I have found that even on WordPress, caching/compressing/minimizing modules are usual culprits to look at when jScript driven code suddenly STOPS working..

Yet another reason why I've never liked that thing.

yes, perhaps good question not sure how to find the answer to it. As to the first question with regard to one template versus another, man I'm a little overwhelmed by the perceived complexity of following that course to find the answer. First I think I'd have to figure out a way to make a version that is upgraded and using the older template and the module. Then I'd have to be able to use a live PPC link to pass thru to the old template so probably would need to make a unique campaign url to go to the address where the old template is working. just thinking out loud. seems complicated and risky. because this is a production site that is the sole income for alot of people and relies heavily on ppc so on the one hand need to figure this out on the other hand cannot disrupt anything in the process.
I might be able to simply switch over to the old template on the production site since the files are all still there in the template folder but hasn't been upgraded itself during an off time like late night on the weekend when the impact will be minimal and running some tests then and see if it is passing the info to ppc. Maybe the easier solution there as far as trying to troubleshoot. Then if we see it still isnt working we might think it is something else altogether and not the template necessarily.
any ideas about how M ight be able to debug the problem using the living site?

PM me info on your site and I'll take a look at it. I've got this running still on many sites (hundreds) with PPC tracking (I manage PPC campaigns with over $10,000 budgets all day long) and it works flawlessly. Something had to have occured during your upgrade causing it not to work.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Here is the fix to get Google PPC conversion tracking working without using the simple google analytics module, for anyone perhaps ever facing an issue similar to mine. The background on it is since we upgrade to zen 1.5x series our tracking stopped working. Haven't been able to figure out why. econcepts was going to look into it for us but simply doesn't appear to have the time as we've been waiting for about a month now. But since our site is a production site that relies heavily on Google PPC having the tracking data is critical to us. SO I dug back into our files for code we'd manually used in the past that had worked and found this and modified it for current use and voila it is working correctly. Basically it is the exact code provided by google (replace the "x's" in my code with your id provided by google or better yet simply copy the code google gives you and replace the order value information)
It may or may not work for you were using it on latest version of zen cart, eg, 1.5x series.
always backup your files before making any changes, you've been warned, :)
simply put this is the code provided by google. what makes it work is replacing the var google conversion value part with this: var google_conversion_value = <?php echo $order_summary['order_total']; ?>; - also will not track properly if you don't have in the noscript area this part as shown below: value=<?php echo $order_summary['order_total']; ?>
I placed it at the bottom of my tpl_checkout_success_default.php file.
code:

<img height="1" width="1" style="border-style:none;" alt="" src="//www.googleadservices.com/pagead/conversion/xxxxxxxxxx/?value=<?php echo $order_summary['order_total']; ?>&currency_code=USD&label=FDn3COeWQxCbr7__Aw&guid=ON&script=0"/>

Thomas, this will potentially only work for your site. Reason being, it has a tracking label in it that is set to your conversion id. The other thing to note here is that the "xxxxxxxx" spot should be dynamically filled in by the program itself (already) so manually filling that in might have potential problems at some point. That field is controlled by the Admin section of the plugin.
I just finished the updated version of this mod (a long time in the making as work here has been busy) and installed on a few sites. It works with all versions of zen cart (forward and backward compatible) It has completely been updated to adhere to all new Google features including a good number of features that many are not aware of within Google Analytics (but that are very important to increasing sales.)
I'll make a link available for the new version here to download shortly. Likewise, I'll be uploading the package after providing the link to the Zen cart plugin section.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Hi I am looking for a plug-in for Google Analytics but was getting confused.
I am running on ZC1.5.4 is Simple Google Analytics ok to install as only says upto v1.5.3 or should I be installing Easy Google Analytics as that has v1.5.4? Or should I wait until Simple v1.5.4 is available?
Many thanks.

You can use Google Analytics. The current version will work fine.

Many thanks Jeking (I assume you meant Google Simple Analytics?).
What I don't understand is it not easier just to add the analytics code to the html_header.php file in common?

I would hope not. Simple Analytics has had many years development behind it. EC analytics is barely a month old.

Stay with what you know/love. EC Analytics isn't intended to replicate or compete with Simple Analytics and I've no plans to make it so.
I suggested EC Analytics to hols.club based on the comment "I am looking for a plug-in for Google Analytics but was getting confused", and the one thing that EC Analytics *isn't*, and that is "confusing". :-)

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I'm having an issue with GA reporting all payments made via Paypal Express Checkout as having the referrer "paypal.com" instead of the true referrer. This is because the user is redirect to paypal for payment and GA counts paypal as the new referrer when they complete payment.
The solution I found was to add the parameter "utm_nooverride=1" to the return page to prevent the GA code on my return page from counting whatever new referrer is given. So what is the return page? Is it ipn_main_handler.php? And where can I add this parameter? The only thing I found was in includes/modules/payment/paypalwpp.php there is code with $return_url. Should I add it to the string? Are there already parameters on the return url? Should I add "&utm_nooverride=1" or "?utm_nooverride=1" ?
That doesn't even seem like the right file though. I assume paypalwpp is Website Payments Pro, which keeps the user on my site to enter a credit card, unlike Express Checkout, which sends the user to paypal.com, which is where the problem is.
Note that the solution given elsewhere, adding paypal.com to the referral exclusion list within GA, doesn't work well because it excludes the entire user session from all reports instead of giving the previous referrer credit.

I wouldn't mess with any code in the actual files you listed. Not only are they core files (that would be written over during future updates possibly), but they are specifically related to payments etc... (and you wouldn't want to alter anything there.)
The easiest way to add that variable to your query string would be to add it within your actual paypal account (under the return url section). Give it the return URL that the site should go to and then add the extra info to the query string.
Hopefully that makes sense.

Hi
Have this installed and updated to my version. and in the analytics config. I have my tracking ID listed correctly.
but when I go to Google Analytics online and enter my site I get the following message: Status: Tracking Not Installed: You have 1 high-priority issue: Missing Tracking Code.
Look forward to your suggestion
Thanx

I seem to recall that there can be quite some delay between when the tracking is 1st set up and when the Status reports get updated. Check again tomorrow.

Eric how things going with the upgrade you suppose to be releasing for a year now. You any closer in releasing it?
If not do you have a beta version you can send out...
Thanks

It's ready (believe it or not). I've been continually adding to it and figured if I do that for ever it will never get out. I do have it in a package and ready for install. Once out here it should have a number of updates (to areas that I would love to add before launch, but that just are too 'large' to incorporate beforehand. So I'll push these out in various updates to the module in the coming months after the initial release.
I'm putting together a run down now of all the updates / changes to the module since the last time I touched it and am looking to have that ready here in the next 7 days. I'll upload a copy to my site first for download and then to the Zen forums for download.
The reason this has taken so long is that the package also includes my new "Ecommerce Amplifier" framework. As many may know, for the past 10 years or more I have been helping online retailers increase sales and website conversion through driving traffic, designs that are proven to increase sales etc... As the pioneer and front runner in this area for Zen Cart (no one was talking heavily about 'conversion' before I started 'educating' them that website 'design' alone won't increase sales) I decided to take all those components and roll it into a members site.
Members have found the site extremely helpful (we've taken many businesses from zero to hundreds of thousands in sales using the same process) but I wanted to do more for stores. With so many others now saying 'they can increase your sales conversion' (yet many having no real clue what it means to do that) I decided to wrap all of my knowledge and 'tools' into one framework (i.e. Ecommerce Amplifier).
This framework includes all of my 'best' modules (updated) as well as a number of 'new / upcoming' modules. All tested, targeted, and proven to increase ecommerce sales. These modules cover 'tracking'--the Simple Google Analytics as well as several other tracking modules are / will be options, the modules cover 'traffic' (I've got a new module called PPC Amplifier that helps you run more successful Adwords / Bing ppc campaigns), the modules cover 'reporting' (I've started to integrate my "Goal Get It" software into the system (previously only available to my members) as well.
So there is a ton of information I've been working on bringing together for this release (and again, not all of it is ready yet ... but I'm going to release anyhow and provide updates as we go along.)
This framework is like no other in what it can do for ecommerce stores and it has / will have some of the most powerful tools (that I built and have used for many years) yet available to once again help you store owners build highly successful businesses.
That's the long winded run down of why it has been so long in the making. It's not just Simple Google Analytics anymore, it is an entire framework that uses my SMART system tools to make store owners more money.
Stay tuned for the initial release here which includes the main thing you all have been looking for ... the updated and revised Simple Google Analytics module.

I have installed Simple Google Analytics and I also have MobiZenCart installed. In the Real Time when I use the computer normally it says "Desktop" but when I got to the website using my iPhone and/or iPad it shows "0" Visitors/Users and it doesn't show what what device they are using. What am I missing?

Just a guess. Simple GA requires a small addition to the template files (as I recall).
MobiZenCart has its own template files when viewed on a mobile device (I gather)
Conclusion, you need to make the same addition/changes to the mobizencart template that you needed for the desktop template.
Just a stab in the dark.

Right now, I am using Cherry Zen for my main template. So I need to add the Cherry Zen template to the MobiZenCart Template folder (includes/templates/mobizencart/templates/cherry_zen) that is the Simple GA folder, is that right?
-
Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Ok, in the Simple GA installation folder as follows:
includes/templates/your_template/google_analytics/google_analytics.php
includes/templates/your_template/jscript/jscript_google_analytics.php
How to put into MobiZenCart template?

Sorry. I don't understand the question.
I'm interpreting this as when you click on a link to one page (with the iPad), then click on a link to another page, the other page doesn't show.
Is that correct?

The GA pages aren't exactly 'real time' - Could that be the issue?
There is a 'tool' available for Chrome (and probably firefox) called "GA Debug". It could be worth your while installing this as it will show info about what GA 'sees' for any given page/access.
As I stated in my 1st message - I really am just guessing at all of this. I don't use the SimpleGA module, nor the template that you have mentioned.
Hopefully someone with some experience with this will speak up with something more definitive than my speculations.

I built the original version and it could be that you need the latest.

Actually RodG that screenshot is not mine. I cant set up GA with my account as I am not able to see any means of entering my GA number into the configuration on zen cart. I simply do not get the GA configuration menu option there.

What version of Simple Google Analytics did you download? If you send me a link to your site I can check it out.
I've got the most up-to-date version here and many others have attempted to update it over the past year or more which caused a few issues.
If you send me your site I'll take a look and get it all worked out for you.

Why not share that version so all can benefit?

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
I've installed this module, followed all the directions but have a question regarding step 2 in the how to use this module in the read me file:
2. Login to your Google Analytics account and make sure your site is set to "receiving data"
or "waiting for data" (this means you have sucessfully installed the analytics code on your
site.)
Where is this setting in Google Analytics? I'm logged in and don't see any data being collected at all either.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
This is not working with my Zen Cart 1.5.5. The problem seems to be with the 'Asynchronous' mode. Eric, have you see this? Any update coming?

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Jim,
Yes, I need to get this version 'packaged' and ready for download.
I will finalize the packaging of it here in the next day or two and then provide a link for downloading before I upload to the zen site.
I have it running on multiple zen versions including 1.5.5 with no issue but again, I'm talking about the version I have here that I rewrote. I've been saying I'll upload it and have never got that done yet. I've been installing though on all sites I work with and thus, the package is out there ... just not uploaded. My apologies. I got sidetracked with a number of projects over the 12 months or so and haven't taken the time to actually upload the package.
Biggest issues with it that took time were making sure it has "all" the bells and whistles built in that others don't. There are a lot of new options Google Analytics offers (as well as integration with other Google products) which I built into my version here. So making sure that was all working (and keeping up with Google updates) was another early hold up.
Will post the link here in the next few days where you can download it from.
Thanks and sorry for the delays in putting getting this out. :)

There are template overrrides so it will work on whatever template you are using, assuming you are using a responsive template and do not have a separate mobile site.

That's a good responsive one. What makes you think it's not working on Mobile & Tablet devices? What is your site url?

For anyone else having problems with this plugin and Zen Cart 1.5.5. The problem being 'WARNING: Missing Shipping Information' on the Checkout Success page. Take a look at either:
https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1827 - Easy Google Analytics
https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1997 - EC Analytics
It's a shame, this was a great plugin to add Google Analytics.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Ok, I have an issue. I am using Twitter, Pinterest & YouTube.
When a customer saw a post/tweet on my Twitter they click on the link to the product on the website then I go to Google Analytics it doesn't show Twitter on "Top Social Traffic" it work with Facebook it shows someone clicked it on Facebook but not on Twitter. Can someone help me with this area?

It does, but this plugin is using an older method for Google Analytics. Check out Easy Google Analytics for an updated version.

Does it work on version 1.5.5? It is not listed in the plugin's description.

Re: Simple Google Analytics - Support
Still no answer. Does it work with 1.5.5 too as it is not listed in the plugin compatibility?

It might work. But it seems cumbersome.
I'd suggest to use https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1997 instead.
