It seems the older version of Categories Dressing I'm suing is causing the only validation error on our home page and I can't seem to figue out where to put a </ul>
I'm not going to advise on correcting the obsolete version of the mod when upgrading will do the job better. More detail in the thread you referenced.

I tried to upgrade a while back and it was proving too difficult for me. Can't remember the issue I was having but I remember I gave up as it was taking me ages (I'm not that good at this :))
2.6 works really well apart from this one little validation error. Is there not a way to just insert a closing </ul> ?
Possibly, but I would have to research it as I don't remember what caused the issue in that version...
Did you change any of the v2.6 files aside from the defines?
Is Categories Dressing ok in v1.5.0?

I've got a problem.
I have installed the Categories Dressing Mod.
I want to hide the top-level categories and only display the subcategories (level 2)
I have uncommented the following: "define('CAT_BOX_ACTIVE_LEVEL', '0|1|9');//hide top cats"
But on my site it doesnt show any categories at all now?
If I'm inside one of the level 2 categories it's working as it should.
What could be the problem?
I'm running zen cart 1.5.0
The site is in norwegian but on the left you'll find "Kategorier" wich is "Categories"

Hello - I am running 1.5.0 cart and have recently installed the Categories Dressing Mod. You can see my site here krazycandle.com.
Is it possible to make the links under categories and information buttons. To give you an idea of what I have in mind is to make all the links look like Categories and Information header but be click able?
That is one of the basic features of the mod. Study the section of the readme on substituting images for category names and try it; then if you still need help, tell me exactly what you did.
I've installed Category Dressing with an Uncollapsable Tree.
I've added two text headings for my categories.
For some reason, on hover there still a background image appears which I beleive is catbghover.gif. It is a rectangle with those short lines along its perimeter. I have deleted it from includes/templates/customtemplate/images. It is not there, but still shows on hover.
I am using stylesheet_chcategories_dressing.css, and changed the name of stylesheet_categories_dressing.css.
I also commented out the image name in the stylesheet.
Developer's tool shows that it IS commented out.
And it is still there.
Is it possible the image is hiding somewhere else?
How to remove it?
The site is on my computer, cannot show it.

The background image cannot display if it is not in the /your_template/images/ folder (or wherever the CSS is calling it from). Check the /template_default/images/ folder; if not found in the custom folder, the code will look in the default folder.What did you change it to? If it still starts with "style" and ends with ".css", it will be autoloaded.Quote:

That is the latest published version (v2.7.3), and it works fine with any version of Zen Cart. V2.8 of Categories Dressing in beta form is attached to post 1542 of this thread, if you want to use that. The one real bug it had only happened in IE7, so is pretty much irrelevant now.
I cannot get rid of the bullets for some reason. They are round black small circles.
I made it list-style: none everywhere on chcategories stylesheet.
They show not only left of categories, but also left of text headings which I've inserted into the categories box.
I am sure I am missing something, but don't know what.
Also, cannot make categories links change color on hover. When I click one, it becomes blue, and then it does change color on hover. But those unclicked are still black and don't react on hover. It was ok before categories dressing was installed, so may be again I am missing something?

Do you still have the regular stylesheet_categories_dressing.css in your folder? If so, that will override some settings from chcategories. You should only have one of them.Quote:

Is there a way to control the anchor text, so it can be different from the category name?
You could do image substitution for the category names, with images containing the text you want. They would have alt tags of the actual category names, which might even be good for SEO...
I thought about this, but is there a way of doing it with text?
I went about this a different way, I just created a new sidebox, disabled the sidebox header and use an HTML table to generate the links with anchor text I input to the table and hard coded URL's to the newly named categories. This should help a lot with SEO for people searching, "white wedding flowers", "yellow wedding flowers"...etc. So, I got there on this one. I just used a display:none; to get rid of the #catGroup1_339 and #catGroup1_26
I have another question though, on a different subject completely. I've had to disable the top level category using li.cat-top {font-size:1.1em; display:none;}
I didn't want to do this though, I wanted to just disable category ID 349 from the admin panel. However, when I disable category 349, it also disables the link to coming soon (where the little yellow star is). I tried and tried but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why?
It must have something to to with this line, from categories_dressing_defines.php
Can you think of a way for me to keep the "coming soon" on display when I disable category 349 from admin? If cat 349 is going to stay disabled, you can move the define to whatever cat or subcat is going to stay at the top of the list.
Alternatively, you can make cat 349 its own category group and the rest another group, which will give that an id of #catGroup349.
Then add to your stylesheet
#catGroup349 .cat-top {display: none;}

I just needed to change the line to allow for the new case number. Changing the line to this worked for me:

Sorry, it looks like changing to the line to 8|0|0 hides my custom case 7 that I wanted displayed as well.
I want only case 7 and case 8 to display the subcats at all times. All other categories should display subcats when the main category is clicked. I have this working perfectly the way I want it with case 7 using 7|0|0 in my defines, but can't figure out how to get case 7 and case 8 to display sub menus all the time at the same time.
I wish I could delete those previous posts, but it probably gives you a good idea:=) Would appreciate your help.

Creating a heading for a category doesn't affect the actual category link. What you seem to want is a display link with text that is styled differently from other top categories. You could do this by making it a separate category group so it would have an id to address in the stylesheet, like
#catGroup23 > li > a {your: style;}
If you don't actually have a real category there but are just using the category to get the heading, eliminate it completely and apply the heading define to whatever category will come just after the desired heading.

I'm having abit of trouble trying figuring out this plug in.
I installed the categories dressing and ch_category. I activated ch_category from layout boxes controller and now all my categories and subcats and products are showing.
I am trying to hide my products and only show main and sub cats but can't figure out how to do this.
I tried this:

Something sounds fishy here. Categories Dressing can never show products in the sidebox, only categories and subcats. There is one expanded categories mod that does show products as well as cats; I don't know if it is even possible for both to be installed at the same time. I really need to see your site live to understand what is happening and advise further.

You do not have stylesheet_categories_dressing.css saved in the right folder. I don't know where it is, but it needs to be in
/includes/templates/classic/css/stylesheet_categories_dressing.css.
You also should read and follow the tutorials on making a custom template; the /classic/ folder is intended as an example, not as the template folder you should use.
You are right, the folder stylesheet_categories_dressing.css vas saved in /includes/templates/template_default/css/stylesheet_categories_dressing.css.Quote:

Glen with your help I have this module doing exactly what I want it to. This is a great contribution to Zen Cart.
The only issue I have is regarding to the layout display, if you are using subcategories. That is when you click on a main category, then the center column also displays this same list of your sub categories list in this menu (of course you can add an image to the center if you would like). This is creating duplicate lists side by side. You can see an example here: http://www.lasilhouettelingerie.com/...by-price-c-82/ This same scenario is repeated for any top category in this menu to the left.
Is it possible to make the top categories only, open to show subcategories; instead of going to the top category page when clicked? (that will then have duplicate lists). Another words clicking the top category link would only open the list (and not direct the page to the actual link).
Is it possible to have a Category Dressing Title be made into a link that can point to and ezpage or contact us page?

I suppose I should rephrase this and simply what I am asking. I am using the Collapseable Categories Tree. I would like it so, when the main category is clicked the tree expands which exposes all the sub-categories. I do like having the text link showing. But I don't want the category link to direct to the category page (URL), the page stays the same. Basically for the main categories only, I want to use these links as category tree expanders and not direct to the category page URL itself.Quote:

Ray: Yes, you can make the "heading" a link. Just put the HTML for it in the define, like this:

Sports_guy: Unlinking the top categories in the sidebox will require a test and conditional edit either in categories_dressing_functions.php or tpl_categories.php. It shouldn't be too hard; I'll look into it in the next day or so.

And after looking though about 40 pages of this post this morning, I would never ask for this category tree to be two way (open and close sub-category tree based upon master-category click and unclick). and I will be happy! Did you install the Uncollapsed Categories Tree files? You are not using that option, and you don't have stylesheet_chcategories.css which you would need to style the sidebox in that case. You cannot expand full trees without chcategories.Quote:

Yes this is where the problem is most likely going to lie. I did not install the uncollapsed tree (and therefore the stylesheet_chcategories.css) because for my use I need these to be collapse-able. The reason I need them collapse-able is I have way to many sub-categories. In the Shop by Designer category alone I have 47 sub-categories, so having these show sub-categories permanently is not good for my shop.Quote:

With my needs, am I missing the point of your statement above?
The Uncollapsed Categories can be made collapseable with a few stylesheet rules (generally used for making it a flyout menu). The stock categories menu can only show the immediate active part of the subcat tree, when what I understand you want is all subcats, sub-subcats, etc. of the open top cat.
If the top categories are made not links, they are no longer clickable and cannot cause any action. What was the reason you do not want to be able to use the top cats as links?
For this functionality, you need javascript. You would have to write any such script yourself, or find one you could adapt.Quote:

In browsing through a bunch of pages of posts since the post where you released the Beta code, you indicated that you made some additional changes to your development version (links comes to mind). Either v2.7.3 or v28 will work with ZC v1.5.x, as tpl_categories.php has not changed in at least 5 years, maybe more.
There was one coding tweak I made to account for correct <ul> nesting in a rare case of subcategory display, and I have not set up the conditions to test that yet. Other than that, v2.8 is useable now, and I could post or send a current copy in a few days when I finish some urgent work. I do want to get that final test out of the way so I can update the mod in Plugins.

You can single out any category name for special styling, by adding a define in categories_dressing_defines.php instead of the old method of adding cases in tpl_categories.php.
You can reset the image extension used for image replacements with one define, instead of editing several PHP statements in other files.
The image replacement feature now works for all/special/new/featured links as well as category names.
Stylesheet rules for turning the expanded categories version into a flyout menu are included in the stylesheet, and only need to be uncommented to be used.
And some miscellaneous improvements to coding, and one or two new stock choices for varieties of category/subcategory level visibility.

I've added flyouts using the three or so posts that you had instructions in, but I don't think the stylesheet that came in the beta 2.8 had this in it. Any ideas/thoughts on how to accomplish what I'm looking to do?

I think per-page stylesheets will be the best way to get what you want. Make a file index_home.css with rules that override the subcat flyout as desired; this will only be loaded for the homepage. You can also make other stylesheets with the same rules for any other pages where you want the flyouts modified, according to the notes in /includes/templates/template_default/css/CSSreadme.txt (it may be under /classic/ depending on your ZC version).

Glenn, I tried using the index_home stylesheet approach that you suggested. It was a simple and elegant solution which never crossed my mind (been away too long, I guess :ohmy:) I had it working as far as the flyouts went, but when I started mucking with the way I wanted it to look the rest of the time, the flyouts stopped working and I haven't been able to get them working again since then. I suspect it has something to do with my active setting in the defines more so than the stylesheet changes. Since I was satisfied with the way I changed things, I dropped trying to get the flyouts working, but since I see you were getting ready to release the new code, I wanted to bring this to your attention in case it was the active levels that broke it for me. I am not at my development computer right now, so can't give you the levels I am using, but functionally I have the top levels showing always and then I have all the 1st level subcats for only the active top level and all the 2nd level subcats only for the active subcat level. I am still having problems with getting one of the top cats to look the way I want, but that is for a different post. The top cats with subcats are all looking the way I want, but the flyouts won't work anymore.
Let me know if you need more details from my defines or stylesheets to test that your new code for flyouts before you release it for the plugins.

Along the same lines of what Berserker wants to do... I've got one ezpage hierarchy where I don't want the cats to show at all. I do want the sidebox title to show as a link to a page where my categories would normally show. I figure if I needed to, I can probably duplicate the sidebox title look as an ezpage link that replaces the ch_categories sidebox when I'm in this particular ezpage hierarchy and then I wouldn't have to turn off display of all the cats, but was wondering if there is a better way utilizing the power of CD to do this. I could make a linkable header that resides below the sidebox title if all the other cats are off, but I still need to have a way to control the linkable header based on the pagename. In the pagename.css I would need a .categories or #chcategories override that sets display: none blanket to cover all the ul and li conditions.

Hi again, Glenn, I've got one more thing that's been kicking my ########! :blink: My last top category has no sub cats and has an image that resides above it. This category name is five words long and unlike the other top cats which are left justified, I want to center this category name in two lines (first two words on one line, last three words on second line) below the image. I know how to style it uniquely, but my problem is figuring out how to get it to look exactly like I want. Is there a way to give the category a different name than is the actual one in the database - a nickname of sorts? The next thing I was going to try is to rename the category in the database to be "word1 word2" only and then use the subtext option to add "word3 word4 word5" below it. This has wide ranging impacts, though, with things like the address bar and breadcrumbs, but more importantly, I'll still have to find a way to put "word3 word4 word5" back into the category name everywhere in the center area. Unfortunately, the spacing of my sidebox is such that I need it to be wide enough that the default formatting allows "word1 word2 word3" to fit on the first line. I've also considered coding a line break into the category name where I want the word break, but I haven't gotten to the point of seeing what that does to the database. I did try using major header and minor header in the image define, but even without any padding and margin settings in the stylesheet for the header formatting, I couldn't get rid of extra spacing above and below them because of the extra breaks in the html, and even so I couldn't figure out how to make that link to the category (realized there was probably a way to make the image the linkable "category" title, but didn't get into that option yet!)

Yes, you could have a linked heading that displays instead of the rest of the categories box for certain ez-pages, requiring only stylesheet work. It would take a bunch of hands-on fiddling to get it right, but not a horrendous job.
I would probably need to look at the site live to understand what is not working with the flyouts. Seeing your defines would also help. I suspect the flyouts may depend somehow on parents that are hidden, so cannot be hovered on to get the lower levels, or maybe have different identifiers than you would expect so your CSS is not catching them. Not sure until I see it in action...
Maybe the easiest way around your five-word category name display is to make an image of the text laid out exactly as you want, and use the standard feature to replace the text with that. It would have an alt/title tag of the actual name, so would still be SE/screenreader accessible.

Does it make any difference whether I shut off the category display in CSS using the ZC built-in .category ID or the CD #chcategories class? Are you suggesting the linked heading be a CD defined heading or are you referring to using the facilities of ZC and shutting off the category (or chcategory in my case) sidebox for my selected EZpages? I would probably need to look at the site live to understand what is not working with the flyouts. Seeing your defines would also help. I suspect the flyouts may depend somehow on parents that are hidden, so cannot be hovered on to get the lower levels, or maybe have different identifiers than you would expect so your CSS is not catching them. That is another thing I wanted to try, as well as a variation of that for the center section issue where the image included the bottom three words and I just put the first two words into the database. To do what you are suggesting, I am already using the image and I would need to edit the image to include the formatted category title below it, but this is the only top cat which would be replaced by an image. Since I am using linked cats, how do I code the image itself to be the link and not have any of the category name show up... is it as simple as display: none in that category's css declaration or will that prevent the image from showing up as well? Sorry for the dumb question, obviously I could just try it and see what code it generates, :no: but thought you might have some practical experience trying to make this part work.Quote:

For the image substitution, just make the image you want for the category name, give the file the correct name as described in the readme, and it will automatically appear in place of the text, linked exactly as the text was. The heading set by the define is separate and will not be affected by this.
Yes, make the heading you want for this purpose. You may need to put it on a catGroup leading item to get a unique identifier for it... I would have to look that up as I haven't handled those elements recently. In any case, you would add a generic rule to hide this heading for all pages, and in the per-page stylesheet you would put rules that display this heading and hide all the rest of the sidebox elements. You can't just hide the whole sidebox or the heading would disappear too. That's about as specific as I can get without seeing your installation.Quote:

I ended up merging what was the header image with the word1-word5 text formatted the way I wanted into a single background sprite. This way the image as well as the text is linkable, I just changed some background stuff and the text color for the hover version. I'm going to have to find another way to push it down from the previous category because I did have it in as padding, but that screwed up the sprite positioning. Thanks for walking me through this!

That part works perfect and is exactly what I want and need.
But no matter what I do or what I change I cannot get the Top Category font to change.
I have tried all the suggestions in the forums (Including the one by you Glen) and nothing works.

I want the Top Category Font to be much larger and a maroon color - when hovered a dk green .
I want the sub-cats to be slightly bigger than it is now and the dk green - when hovered the maroon.
Should be simple I would think. Just a css change as everyone seems to suggest.
I really have tried everything and read the read-me of this plugin every word and have tried everything.
I have other plugin's but nothing I could see that would bother this one.
Can anyone help?

You need to edit both of these below and add the font size to each one ...

Is there a way to have bullets in front of category names on only 3+ sub level categories?
Currently, I have categories and sub categories listed without bullets. I would like the ability for 3rd level categories and beyond to appear bulleted but I'm not sure if it's possible. Please let me know. Thank you!!

I cannot seem to figure out what I've done wrong, but I can't get any of the changes I make in the stylesheet_chcategories_dressing.css to take effect. I have the ch_categories.php turned on in my admin panel. The website link is shadesofmidnight.com. This is an established website that I'm attempting to change themes on. I know that this is compatible with the theme I'm using as I've just set up another site with that theme and this mod without a problem. I've even compared files between the two sites and can't seem to find what is different and why I'm running into this problem.
Seeing it live may give me a clue to what is happening for you.
