Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
There was a new easypopulate.php attached a few pages back. I looked at it and some new fields are in it like meta tag and so forth. Has anybody succeeded creating a version with a field for minimum quantity? This would save me a lot of hand editing.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi,
Just installed Easy Populate and its great.
Got two issues though.
Firstly, the images I am uploading are from another website. Is there any way of getting them automatically put onto my website. At the moment they dont appear.
Secondly, I sell iphone accessories and would like the cases to have an option orange blue, black etc etc. How do I do that. I download a csv attributes but it doesn't seam to work.
Thanks in advance.

You have to "mass grab" those images and get them onto your local drive - then, ftp them to your shop's images folder.
See how to do that here:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Have you tried the admin setting? In the Admin, under Configuration>Easy Populate, there is a setting "Make Zero Quantity Products Inactive?". You could set that to "false".

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi all
I'm having monster problems trying to upload products to my store. I've done all this before and it's worked fine apart from me stuffing up the subcats which is what I'm trying to fix now.... anyway...
With every upload attempt I get the error msg:
No model field in record. This line was not imported
Upload Complete
I know that this has a tendency to occur in the absence of errors.
With larger uploads of even a few products I get:
No model field in record. This line was not imported
No model field in record. This line was not importedopposed on | Allied tro | while dire | artillery | tanks | and aircra |
No model field in record. This line was not imported
No model field in record. This line was not importeda hex-base | such as su | mechanics | and random |
which contains extracts from the lines that it says failed.
In all cases, easy populate fails to update the database with any information.
This is the text file for a single product that fails to upload and I can't see anything wrong with it.
v_products_model v_products_image v_products_name_1 v_products_description_1 v_date_added v_products_quantity v_manufacturers_name v_categories_name_1 v_tax_class_title v_status EOREOR
FFGVA08 FFGVA08.jpg Doom Boardgame In doom...lengthy descripton 20/10/08 1 Fantasy Flight Games Boardgames Taxable Goods 1 EOREOR
I've also extracted, using EP, the current db and tried to reupload edited portions without success.
The temp directory is 777. Are there any other file/folder permissions that I need to set?
I'm using zc1.3.8 and uploaded a fresh installation of ep1.2.5.4 and ep1.2.5.5 to check whether that would resolve the issue. I've also used Open Office Calc rather than Excel to make sure nothing sneaky was creeping into the upload. Any help would be very much appreciated as I've been looking at this now for 7hrs and am going slowly nuts. rrrrr :shocking:
Thanks, Steve

I have never had that problem before but seems like your messing a few parts of the header section.
v_products_model v_products_image v_products_name_1 v_products_description_1 v_products_url_1 v_products_price v_products_weight v_date_avail v_date_added v_products_quantity v_manufacturers_name v_categories_name_1 v_tax_class_title v_status EOREOR
I think if your missing some of the required fields you might get the error you mention. I have not tried but worth a test. Hope this helps

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi
Thanks for your reply. Got it working just a few hours ago. Here are some rules I came up with. Some of them might not be necessary:
1. Use EP1.2.5.4 rather than 1.2.5.5. My first problem came from a corrupt 1.2.5.4 and my second problem was something to do with 1.2.5.5. It's kinda confusing following 1.2.5.4 help files when using 1.2.5.5 because 5 uses csv rather than txt and also didn't seem to have EOREORs. I've no idea what my problem was exactly with 5 but it just wouldn't work. A re-install of 4 solved it all.
2. Use Open Office Calc rather than Excel. As recommended in the readme.txt, extract the existing database from your site using 1.2.5.4 under Tools-Easy Populate and then open it in OO Calc. To save once edited, use Save As Text CSV file but replace the 'csv' in the filename with 'txt' and check the 'edit filter settings' box. In the filter settings, make sure 'tab' is selected in the Field delimiter and remove the double quotes (...inverted comma) from the Text delimited to leave the field blank.
3. I then either used easy populate to browse for my file or uploaded it straight the to the server's temp folder in Catalog. I have 1200 products and the browse still worked fine without the need to split the file.
4. Not really a tip, but I noticed that setting the v_status to 9 to delete the product had the slightly rude tendency to delete the small image file used for thumbnails from the server. I'd rather it didn't do that and if I find the line in easy populate's php file that does this I'm gonna maliciously comment it out.
Hope this is all clear. PM me if it isn't. Tonnes of respect to the guy who wrote EP (it would be a horrible task to upload without it). A friendlier batch import wizard mod based on EP would be genius if anybody can produce one... v2 maybe?
Cheers, Steve

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi! I added easy Populate CSV 2 1.2.5.5 for the 4 th time just to make sure I wasn't the problem. I am running cart 1.3.8a.
I have followed the instructions to the letter and continually get an error.
I have re-installed a fresh EP. It downloaded the first file (csv) to the temp. I didn't touch the file and when I re-import the file from the temp I get:
"Warning: array_flip() [function.array-flip]: The argument should be an array in /xxxx/xxxx/admin/easypopulate.php on line 1222"
at the top of the screen. (xxxx edited for security)
I have looked at the admin/easypopulate.php at line 1222 and I can not see anything wrong. I didn't edit the file so it is from the download in a virgin state.
HELP! I only have a few items on the store as a test but have over 2000 to upload. Sure don't want to do them all manually!

Hey!
I have same problem as you have. And I also solved it with installing EP1.2.5.4. After 6h troubleshooting...
Have someone here get the EP1.2.5.5 csv-2 to work?
I think thats version have better attribute management.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I've been having a hell of a time trying to format my CSV correctly. I have a feeling it is my version of Excel not formatting correctly.
I've used Easy populate for over a year on osCommerce, but I am having a major headache with this. I've noticed that when you open a file through excel [txt/csv] so you can view it in a way to edit it and pump it back out to re-import, it screws with the format. It looks totally different than what originally came out of EP.
The is the first time I've used EP on my home comp so I know it has to do with my Excel settings. Is there a program that can load a csv file and format it correct for proper importation?
CSV Example [Pre-load] renamed CSV to TXT so I am assuming it left it comma deliminated.

Looks like it's semi colon deliminated as well as missing quote markes in specific sections. However it is saved as a CSV file. Not sure how to get around this.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Use OpenOffice instead of excel...make sure to add EOREOR
at end of every product entry or EP will not work
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Thanks for the quick response, was going nuts. I tried the EOREOR, however thought .5 did not use it.
Thanks for the Open Office recommendation, I'll try that.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I can downgrade, not a problem. Curious though, open office seems to work better, but if I open as a semicolon and save as a CSV, it still reads as semicolon delimited instead comma.
Is there a way to force it to save SPECIFICALLY as comma.
Edit: Never mind, think I got it.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Problem: Have very large descriptions of my products. Aparantly too large for EP v_product_description field.
I go to catagory in admin and go to a product and add addition data that could not be added through EP.
When I do and update, all the additional data I just added is purged and all that remains is the intial short description.
Question: How or can I upload large descriptions with EP?
or If not How do I keep product descriptions in tact when I update with EP.
Any help would be appreciated
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Need to clarify: The additional description I discuss is for products.
I promote a vitamin line and there are quite lengthy and detailed ingredient and recommended usage descriptions.
I get some of these from manufacturers and I cut and paste.
Others I have to create, so after a lot of work, I hate to loose them, when I make global price changes and such with EP.
Thanking any of you in advance for any help or solution.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Johhny,
You will need to use OpenOffice to get longer product descriptions. I don't know if there are limitations in the zencart admin product edit side...
If you truly have LOOOOONG descriptions, you may want to consider breaking this data up into a couple of logical additional fields.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
First time user. Successfully installed and downloaded my store data as it suggested. I opened in excel and added about 5 new products and deleted everything else. I successfully uploaded the .txt file into zen cart.
Question though. In the readme.txt file it says,
"Any fields left blank (NULL) will not always retain the current data in your store. Best to delete unneeded columns, and use original store data as updates template"
I am only adding entries to about 12 columns out of the 24. The other entries for the other 12 columns are blank. Does this mean that I should be completing deleting those columns in the tab delimited file?
When I did my test upload, I failed to delete blank columns do this but, I don't see anything unusual that makes me think I screwed something up.

No, no you should be good. Once you download existing data and change some stuff in the txt file and re-upload you want to be careful and not import empty fields over existing data.
Just always backup db, do some test importing with just a few items, see if the resulting import is correct and then do your bulk. If not correct, just restore and try again. :D

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
It is best to delete any columns containing information that doesn't need to be updated.
for example:
When you upload your products for the first time you will need:
product model l category 1-7 l brand l prod. desc. l price l weight l etc.
for updating daily changing info like prices and stocklevels you will need:
product_model l prices l stock l
The other columns can be deleted.
Hope this helps a bit.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
mydanilo,
ok, so it's just a precaution to not overwrite existing data with blank data. I think I understand now. Thanks.
RamsX,
So, I am uploading about 100 new items.
The following column entries are blank for each item in the tab delimited file:
v_products_url_1, v_specials_price, v_specials_date_avail, v_specials_expires_date, v_categories_name_4, v_categories_name_5, v_categories_name_6, v_categories_name_7
Are you saying that since these items I want to upload are brand new that I need to include every column, even if the column entries are completely blank on the first upload?
Thanks.

No, you can delete the empty columns or any columns containing info you don't need.

Correct to some point. I think there are some that absolutely need to be there to make it work. I think in the wiki is some info about it.
I found it does not hurt to have all columns there if you add new products.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I am using Zen Cart v 1.3.8 My current database has about 3000 products in it. When I first set-up my store I was able to upload my products without any problems. They were uploaded in 2 groups, each about 1500 products each. Now that I have a full store, when I try to download my products I am getting the following error
500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
My host is Dreamhost and this is their reply:
"I was unable to determine the root cause of the error. Unfortunately
debugging 3rd party modules is beyond our scope of support. Your process
is not getting killed by our process monitor. Nor is anything meaningful
being reported in the apache error logs, suexec logs, etc."
I am lost as to what to do to utilize EP. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
PizzaMan,
What you should try to do is use the "Create Complete tab-delimited .txt file in temp dir (Attributes Not Included)" Link.
This will put your data file in the temp directory that you can then use your ftp program to download.
Same goes for uploading to temp directory for import.
Per your download problem, have you looked at your php.ini file? There are some variables in there that you can customize to give yourself more memory and processor time.

Chadderuski,
Thanx for the reply, however, I have tried to to do the files to the temp directory and it still does the 500 internal server error. When I only had 1500 item it worked fine, but when I got to 2500+ then it times out. Does not matter weather I download or put in temp directory.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi friends,
I'm using ZC 1.38. I installed easy populate from Langer, it installed fine and could download the datbase correctly, but when I tried to upload I would get a 500 error, so now I installed, Easy Populate CSV, the latest updated in Jan 2009, which is working fine.
I need help on 2 issues which would make things easier for me.- Download and upload the database using a semicolon";" instead of a comma "," separating the columns. in Spain we use the comma to separate the decimals in the prices, eg. (€11,50) so when I open the database it gives me the price in 2 separate columns, and also the description field commas create problems.
- I use wholesale and retail prices and have the dual price module installed, when I downloaded the database with the langer module there was a column for the wholesale prices v_price_w , but this new version does not include it, how can I add this field to may downloads.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
After reading, I am still not clear on how to not over write long product descriptions when using easy populate. I am open to using Open Office for uploading long descriptions.
I had a programming friend change a core file to protect my product descriptions temporarily but I know that is not the way to go.
Should I delete the description column in EP when uploading a global price update, will that protect my data?
Would apreaciate any help.

Open your php.ini file and look for this section. You can usually bump these up, but many hosts will over ride your values if you go too high:
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Resource Limits ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
max_execution_time = 90 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds
max_input_time = 90 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data
memory_limit = 64M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (10MB)
If this doesn't help, then something on the hosting side is really restricting your scripts. In shared hosting environments you are really at the mercy of the hosting provider's imposed restrictions, and the other 100's (if not 1000's !?!?!?!) of sites you are sharing your box with.
It may be time to change providers or to consider a VPS... wiredtree and knownhost both have good affordable packages (about 40/month) and superior tech support.
Hope this helps.
Oh, just a note: Once you upload your php.ini file, run a script with phpinfo() in it to make sure it accepted the changes. Some hosts cache the php.ini file and it can take "time" to update your changes.
Good Luck!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
HELP PLEASE!!
I am using:
Zen Cart ver 1.3.7.1
Easy Populate ver 1.2.5.4
When I UPload EP File all my existing product records are updated just fine. Any new product records are skipped (not added to the dbase) with this message:
Model BF3 SM-No catagory provided for this new product.
The catagory structure is Shaker Maple>Base>Specialty
HOWEVER- if I add the product id:
BF3 SM to Catalog>Catagories/Products and then run Upload EP File again with the same file BF3 SM is updated correctly, but all the other new products are still skipped with the above message.
Can anybody shed any light on this?

Do you have the category name in your EP file that this product is going to? That is what the error is telling you - no category for the product was listed.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Yes I have the catagory name. I have several products in the catagory.
I have since taken a download file and can change the name of the v_product_model of an existing product to the name BF3 SM and upload it. The product is then added to the database. I can find no difference in the Catagory names from this file and the one I am creating. Any ideas?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Yes! I found the error.
My Bad.
I suspect I typoed in the column headings (ie v_products_model etc) but never could find it. In the end I copied the headings that were exported by EP and pasted them into my data.
The resulting file worked perfectly.

Roshlin,
1) It sounds like you have the new CSV version loaded and not the TAB delimited version of Langer's 1.2.5.4. If you use the original version, you will need to work with your files using OpenOffice's software. This will edit and export the file correctly for upload. This is no different than having commas in product descriptions.
2) I am not familiar with this mode, but if the value is stored in the products database, you can modify the 1.2.5.4 version to export and import it.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I thought it was the same thread and it would be easy to add the field.
Thanks for your help, chadderuski, I'll see if there is another post for the new mod.

It is recommended that you delete this corrupted data using phpMyAdmin.
So I logged into my cpanel and went into my phpmyadmin...but I don't know where to go to delete the information....can someone guide me on where I would find this information to delete in my phpMYadmin to loose the error message at the top?

I have found that this can be caused if a product is deleted and was in a shopping cart or visa-versa, the user is deleted and he had items in his cart.
So a good place to start is in zen_customers_basket (or zen_customers_basket_attributes), hopefully you might see it there.
If not, try to remember what was deleted shortly before you saw the error pop up. If it was a category, try zen_product_to_categories, etc. It's kinda like playing Sherlock Holmes in the db!

This is no different than having commas in product descriptions.
2) I am not familiar with this mode, but if the value is stored in the products database, you can modify the 1.2.5.4 version to export and import it.
2) I use wholesale and retail prices and have the dual price module installed, when I downloaded the database with the langer module there was a column for the wholesale prices v_price_w , but this new version does not include it, how can I add this field to may downloads.
I also use wholesale and retail prices. I have only been able to load one and then have to go in to each product for discounted price. How did you get it to work to load two different prices for one product? Where and what did you add?
Thanks, Kim

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi Kim,
I am unfamiliar with the Dual Pricing Mod. If this mod directly changes the products database, then you can easily change Easy Populate the handle this added field. I am unfortunately (or should that be fortunately?!) involved in a large print project and 2 full eCommerce projects, so I don't have time to do this for you :(
But, this is what you need to do. If the Mod had an SQL patch, take a look at it. Did it update the products database? If so, what fields did it add? Open up easypopulate.php, and search on v_products_price. At each line reference (doing a search), add your new field, say "v_products_price_w"
Also note that the new CSV version is not quite the same as the TAB delimited version.
Wish I had time to help more, but just too busy... But this is not hard to do. Just make sure you BACKUP your databases first!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi,
Ive been "playing" with my zen cart and mythsngifts.com since about October, and although i have had a couple of orders, I just cannot get it right :(
My latest problem is that ep 1.2.5.4 works great for uploading and downloading products, but everytime I try to download or upload an attributes file, the screen goes blank. I have tried to d/u to my temp folder but nothing appears, I have removed and reinstalled ep but still get exactly the same problem. Is this likely to be an admin issue or could I have done something in mysql thats causing the prob
My next resort is to completely start from scratch, but it will mean my site is down yet again and I should really be promoting it by now.
Any help would be soooooooo much appreciated thankyou!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi.
Appologies if this is a newby question or that there is an obvious answer but I have been at this for over 20 hours now and I cant see the wood for the trees.
I have a clean install of the latest zencart with the template ZJ Black 2 and the latest Easy Populator.
My problem is I am trying to input 1268 products but Easy Populator says all are done but when you go to the shop only a few are.
So I restricted to doing just 12 just incase it could not handle the number, but it still only installs some and not others here is what I am trying to install.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi - my site is clonecopies.com
I installed the ezpopulate and tested same. worked for uploading 2 items. tried 10 great result. Tried 100, 50 went great the other 50 will just not upload, I get the following message: SKIPPED! - Model: 11034NA - No category provided for this new product
I first used Excel with tabs, then I set up open office, downloaded a master list again, set up the 50 rejected items, set up tab file in Open Office - uploaded, nothing. Re-entered the category not by cut and paste but by typing, tried again - nothing.
And yet these are the same categories as the ones that worked.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
i am trying to use easy populate to split my rather large inventory list and import it. I followed the instructions from the INSTALL file and read the read me, but when i go to browse and choose my tab deliminated .txt file, it goes through the long process of what i assume is uploading/splitting the file, but at the end i have nothing added to my product list and no option to import the split up files.
what i do have is a message underneath the create your own / upload your file that says "
Upload split files in turn
All done!
Upload Results
Upload Complete
"
but i have no options to do anything further and nothing is added to my store inventory. I hope someone can help me.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi - regarding my post earlier today re categories not showing up. Thanx to some-one whose name I cannot remember but in the forum suggested if the EZ file does not load up - look at it in Notepad++. Bingo; my vendor uses tabs in the description file which threw out the columns.
But one thing leads to another: 4 items loaded up, one crashed and at the top of the EZ Pop screen got this message:
Warning: explode() [function.explode]: Empty delimiter in /...../......./......../admin/includes/functions/extra_functions/easypopulate_functions.php on line 241
Can any-one tell me what this means
thanx

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
This may be a stupid question, but what is the layout for an Excel Spreadsheet in order to perform this? Is it exactly as the product window is?
What fields do I need to have in order for this to work properly? =/
Thank you!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Not sure what kind of spreadsheet app your are using (if any) as I do not see any kind of formatting on what you have. I can't see any EOREOR at the end of any line, either. Also, it must saved is a tab-delimited text file.
You need to verify that in every v_model field, the data is unique. If any are repeated, the product will be overwritten with the info from the other one(s).
excel97 works for me but some do not care for it.
I suggest that you download a full text tab-delimited file from your install. Open it with the spreadsheet. Copy/Paste the EOREOR into every line in that column that you will need to upload.
Input your data into the correct fields and then sort (excel has a w/header row as a sort option. Verify that no v_model entry has been duplicated. Then save it to a tab-delimited text file and upload it. Until you are familar with how it all works, do not delete any unused columns.
If all of this is correct and it still fails, go back to the first entry on this topic and read the instructions.
BTW, I upload files with over 3000+ lines without any glitches, so the amount of products is NOT your problem.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
My site is currently down on purpose. I'm purchasing a special template for it and I don't intend to work on the layout until the template is purchased. So, I'm trying to upload all of my products in the meantime.
You will not see any information up there at this time.
What I am asking is this:
My Excel Spreadsheet should look like?
Products ID# | Product Name | Product Type | Weight | IMG SRC
What fields do I need to have so that this works properly and in what order?
Sincerely,
Indi

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I'd be willing to email someone the spreadsheet I currently have. It is not completed yet, but I want to make sure I have all of the fields of information necessary for it to upload properly.
So far my fields are:
Model No: | Series | Genre | Character | Color | Wholesale Price | Retail Price
Do I need to have the fields listed on the products form such as:
Date Available | Description | Quantity | Taxable Goods | etc.
Thank you for your time. =)

Mine looks like this if you are using the Langler version and not the cvs one.
Attributes don't do very well using ep.
If you downloaded a complete tab-delimited text file from your site, the fields will look like the ones in the above image. Some can be left out but it's not a good idea if you are a newbie.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I would like to put in for two requests for a new version, and for now, some advice on how to get done what I want to do (Hacking EP to make it work like I want)
First off, reading the code, it looks like it would be fairly easy to add a feature where users can customize a "map" so they can upload a spreadsheet from a supplier's inventory list (without it needing to be zencart compatible) and the headings from that .csv would be "mapped" to the correct fields (I.E. ProdImage => v_products_image )
That way in admin user can set up their own mapping for the data files they wish to upload (or even better a simple point and click interface)
for example, have an area (probably in config) that users can upload a truncated spreadsheet (headings plus 1 row of data) and the code would parse it and display it in a couple of rows, with the required rows for easypopulate below or above , and take the number value from easypopulate fields and enter it to the new spreadsheet rows , indicating which column matches which (it's easier to visualize than to explain) and when everything is set, save the values, with a name they choose - and use that map to parse data from the user's uploads, and they could select the "format name" from a drop down list , default easypopulate .. and easypopulate could simply use that "map info" to parse the given spreadsheet and match it up with what's required.
it would save a massive amount of time. (I'm currently digging around in the code to figure out how to make this happen to direct upload a Doba spreadsheet without altering it)
and Secondly, add a couple of fields to easypopulate for "cost" and "markup" so the user could also include their cost price of the item and customize the markup % , rather than having to figure it for each item, or use the list price. - even better, make it so that markups can be calculated based on a formula set in config (I.E. < $10, markup 40% , $10.01 - $100 markup 30%, $100.01+ , markup 20%) - (I actually have a script that I run commandline right now to parse a "updates" file from supplier with quantity, price, available date, minimum advertised price, and list price, on which I do that sort of operation - but it would be nice to be able to simply upload a fresh spreadsheet with updated data and letting easypopulate calculate the price according to formula)
Now, as for the above two features, I am going to be developing this for myself and a client as well (and probably others that will also want this feature, once they find out about it) an I would like some advice from developers on where the important stuff of the code is- namely - which file and where is the parsing done that reads in the easypopulate csv file and pushes it into the database - and also where is the actual updates to database being done.
It'd help immensely in reading unfamiliar code..

Try this:
BACKUP DB FIRST!
(I used this method to change to the OSC EP, since it allows for category specific downloads. It's a little buggy but the +'s outweigh the -'s in my case.)
1) Remove or rename the old (ie. .phpX)
2) use phpMyadmin (or whatever your host provides) to edit your db:
in configuration_group - select browse - find easypopulate - (make note of the group ID) - delete that group ID
3) select configuration - then browse - sort by group ID - find the one that you need. (there should be 10 different config. ID's for that group) - delete them all.
4) install new EP
I tried it by just replacing the old mods with the new cvs ones and could not get it to work right, I didn't really need the new so I just put it back as before.
Good luck!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
My products are each in multiple categories. As I review the use of this contribution it seems that the only way it supports products in multiple categories is if each such product is duplicated (i.e. a new model number) for each category. Am I missing something or is this the way to handle products in multiple categories? Thanks.

Not sure if I am following you but I will take a guess. Excuse me if I read more into your question that what was intended.
Sounds to me like you may be a little foggy on the difference between linked and copied.
If so:
A product linked to 10 cats is just one product being displayed in those 10 categries. Edit one and all 10 reflects that edit, since that product only has one model #. If you update that products model #, it should update that product in all 10 locations.
Even if you copied the product to 10 other cats but did not change the model # in each one, then it will be treated as if it is linked. Change 1 with ep and you change them all.
If a copy is made to another cat, and it's model # was edited to be unique, then changing one with ep will not effect the others, so each will have to be updated individually (as they are different products that just happen to look alike).
That is how I understand it to work, but since I don't use linked products, I wouldn't bet the farm on it!
Test it this way:
Create a test product and link it to another category.
Download the models, price, qty EP and delete all but that one product (it should be listed just once). Change the price or qty and upload it.
If the qty and/or price changes in both locations, then what I said is correct.

Someone please help, I am upgrading my cart and I don't have the install files I paid for on 2/20/08
I Purchased the install services but now all I need is the files.
I have sent an e-mail nicholak the creator and opened a ticket with his help desk ticket # MRS-52527-323, but no word, and im afraid I wont hear from him. So anyone that might have a copy of the files please let me know I really need to get this reinstalled on my store I have hundreds of prices to change.
The latest support on his site is months old and I can't wait that long please anyone that purchased the advanced copy and still has the install files please. I can send screen shot of invoice to prove I have already paid and am not just trying to rip the developer off.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Help.
I am trying to make Easy Populate work and it isn't and I cannot work out why it isn't doing what I think it should be doing.
I have installed it correctly and can download and create dtabase files as needed.
I am trying to upload new products, and it keeps giving me the message "No model field in record. This line was not imported" all the time. Nothing is uploaded, not a single thing.
Each product has it's own 10 digit product number, I have put EOREOR at the end of each line.
So what now?
I have tried to search for help before this, but I am either putting in the wrong search terms or I don't know how to make the search give me individual results from a 2000+ posts thread. Honestly, I am sick of trying to search for things.
Thanks, I hope.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Additional information.
The problem appears to be this.
I am using 1.2.5.5.csv on 1.3.8a ZenCart.
This computer is running Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and OpenOffice 2.4 for editing.
Downloading the file to my desktop (Zencart is in this computer locally) is no problem.
When I open the file with Open Office, it asks me how to open it. If I specify the seprarator to be a tab and text delimiter to be " I can edit that file, save it as a .csv file and it works just fine. The problem is that the file is a bunch of words and digits all smashed together with little rhyme or reason. To simply edit things it wouldn't be a problem really, but adding items would be much more reliable using the standard Zen Cart product addition setup.
I want to use this to add products to this store (before going live I want to make sure it all works as needed of course) and no matter what I do the final file I get from Open Office or a plain text editor (Gedit) will not talk with Easy populate. Even when the newly added items read identically to the existing, uploadable and editable items, it does not work.
Can I actually add new items using easy populate and my existing editing software, or not?
Thanks again, I hope.
Stu.

Me again.
I may have it worked out, a file I tried earlier has just worked. I do need to check and see how and why it worked to make sure I don't get excited over nothing.
If anyone out there has suggestions, I am all ears.
I hope I made it tick for good...

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Two simple questions
1. Can I import into zen cart using easy populate, ATTRIBUTES export from (CRE LOADED Easy Populate)? The text file format looks the same for both.
If the answer is YES then...
2. What will happen to my existing attribute IDs and option, and their values? Will it just append and associate product models with the imported file attribute ids etc.. OR will it overwrite my existing attributes for exisitng product models?
why I ask this is because, I am using 2 different suppliers who supply the same products. One having more than other, I have already imported from supplier 1 and its all seems ok but supplier 2 export has the same products too besides new ones.
I am not sure what to do ? can anyone please advise? thanks

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I have searched, but cannot seem to find the answer to my problem.
I am using Zen Cart v. 1.3.8a
I am using Easy Populate v1.2.5.4
Everything works fine, except that my product descriptions all get truncated.
My Easy Populate settings are as follows:
Title ------------------------------------ Value
Uploads Directory------------------------------ temp/
Upload File Date Format-----------------------m-d-y
Default Raw Time ------------------------------9:00:00
Split File On # Records ----------------------- 300
Maximum Category Depth ------------------- 7
Upload/Download Prices Include Tax ------- false
Make Zero Qty Products Inactive------------ false
Smart Tags Replacement of Newlines------- true
Advanced Smart Tags------------------------ false
Debug Logging ------------------------------- true
I am only adding about 50 entries per Easy Populate run (have tried it with as few as 5, still same problem).
I have all products added via Easy Populate added to the same directory, and then I move them to their proper directory manually later.
And every single time, the end of the product description is always cut off.
Now, I have been adding html tags to format the descriptions, but I also remove all blank lines and such as well.
ANy help on this would be very appreciated!!
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
The truncation is probably MSExcel's fault, not EP. I experienced the same problem and then switched to OpenOffice and used that to work with EP files.
You can also use a good text editor to work with the tab-delimited files but you lose the advantage of WYSIWYG that a spreadsheet offers.
I'm reasonably experienced in EP, so I sometimes use Crimson Editor to work with long product descriptions which I then Upload via EP. In these cases, I just have the Model Number column, the Description column and the EOREOR column.

That should be easy enough to check... I have all of the text files I created for the uploading
For some reason, I kept thinking maybe I had too many characters for the field, or something like that.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi,
My first post in this thread so please go easy.
ZC v. 1.3.8a, EP v.1.2.5.5, just installed on my test site.
Just imported the online site into my test site.
Tools -> EP says:
5 partially deleted product(s) found! Delete this dross to prevent unwanted zencart behaviour by clicking here.
You are seeing this because there are references in tables to a product that no longer exists, which is usually caused by an incomplete product deletion. This can cause Zen Cart to misbehave in certain circumstances.
Upon clicking I get this:
http://www.example.com/ladywig/admin...ns/warning.gif Deleting of product data debris failed! Please see the debug log in your uploads directory for further information.
Then the log says this:
Product debris corresponding to the following product_id(s) cannot be deleted by EasyPopulate:
110:6e5c303399d5f09249685463bae53bd4
114:5d9acb39caff4904d944963fc99a1e77

109:7f9a284d9ed0620f95c07b62b69a302d
It is recommended that you delete this corrupted data using phpMyAdmin.
The problem is: how do I delete corrupt data using phpMyAdmin?
Thanks.

If a user had a pending cart with those products and if either the products or the user was deleted before the cart was emptied, then that can happen.

Beyond the products table there are about 14 more tables refering to products.
Did you check each of them?
By the way, did youclick the Browse at the top of the structure to see the products??

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi
I am looking at the free easy populate v1.2.5.5
It says its for Zen cart version v1.3.6?? So it wont work with Zen cart Version 1.3.8a?
How does this compare with the Advanced easy populate someone is plugging on here.... zencartbuilder.com???
As an alternative I am looking at http://www.magneticone.com/ Store Manager.
What I want to do is to take a huge list of products from my supplier.. and import that into Zen cart, then I want to export it out of Zen cart back into spread sheet with all the direct links to the products in the (which zen cart should put in?)... I can then submit that list to google base (plus a few extra columns etc). Will it keep everything in order so the columns in my initial sheet (which are formatted for google base) will come back out in the same way.
Many Thanks!

No, but the osCommerce version does have that option. It's not perfect but the ability to pick and choose which cats to download and whch headers to include makes it work for me. Try it on a test installation to see if it may be what you need.

Select all tables.
Copy and paste the "debris" information.
Click go and delete all instances found.
EP is clean and happy now.

The first one can be assigned with ep. All will need to be uploaded via a ftp program.
ie. if
Image 1= mypic.jpg
then
Image 2= mypic_2.jpg
Image 3= mypic_3.jpg
etc.

I have not started yet with EP, trying to understand it for the moment, so this post could be off-mark.
From what you describe I think Image Handler does all that for you and is less error-prone.
You navigate to the product and assign it a main image simply by browsing in your computer (or network) to the one you want.
Same procedure for additional images, IH uploads them to the images folder, renames them, etc. No need to FTP, just point and click.

That is true, the IH does do all of those things but if you are uploading en-mass, then why take the time to assign multiple images one at a time? Kind of defeats the purpose of EP, don't you think? The quickest way is to rename your images (ie. 1.gif, 1_1.gif, 1_2.gif, 1_3.gif, etc., and ftp them and let zencart handle the multiple image assignments for you.
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
The important thing to remember is that EP does NOT "upload" images...
The data you put into v_products_image column is simply a REFERENCE to the location and name of the primary image, and this data (reference) is stored in the database.
The actual image FILE (jpg, png, gif) is stored in the images folder (and/or a relevant sub-directory) and the best way to port the image files to your server is to use FTP.
ADDITIONAL images for any given product:-
(Main image = image.jpg)
- image_01.jpg
- image_02.jpg
- image_03.jpg
Are ALSO loaded via FTP, and their presence is then automatically recognised by ZC via ZC's "additional images" functionality.

I've used Easy Populate to update and to add products to my site. However, even though the upload and import to database were successful no products were added or updated.
I have over a thousand products to add and this would be a life saver. Here is what I have:
Zen Cart - 1.3.8a
Easy Populate 1.2.5.5 CSV
PHP - 5.2.9
MySQL - 5.1.30
I've attached a test file. Any help is appreciated.

As with EP 1.2.5.4 if you had no products in the DB and no category/ies and you imported with EP your products would not show, but if you have a one category and one product in ZC - EP would import and show!

Scrat, thanks for the reply. I had one product in Zen Cart which I added in manually. I also set up categories as well. What I did was download the complete CSV file without attributes and used this as a template for my test file. I added a new product with a unique model number and EP says no errors but nothing is added to the database.
Should I go to EP 1.2.5.4?
