That was going to be my next suggestion to you.

will the current Google Feed files also work with submitting to BING data feed ?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Reinstalled GBF and it worked without a hitch.....which meant I knew something wasn't gonna work on the flip side, Google. I couldn't seem to get it to upload from my cart which is no biggie since Google will fetch it on their end. I kept getting an error about the value cannot be set at 0, or something similar. So I played around with the configuration. Even though the GBF was set to show no quantities, Google would not accept it. It would actually show it as zero. So I turned on the show quantities attribute and added 1 as the number to show. Worked...no problemo...at least for that part.
Now I'm having problems with unacceptable words/characters in my product titles and descriptions. I thought it was gonna be easy to find. Not so much. The dashes, parenthesis, commas, etc were removed from the listed products....even though this is the same feed I used earlier this year and it worked without fail. So the next thing was words. Descriptions of a product....some were the actual names of the product....and Google won't allow it.
I have a partial list of the words not allowed and what it was used for in my listings:
Charity....no idea on this one
S.e..x...y.......lettering on said product
Liquor.....flavor
Liqueur......flavor
PentHouse.....which was a brand not the mag
Cigar.........like a cigar box shape
Tobacco....part of a brand name fragrance description
Rum........flavor and scent
Bourbon.....flavor and scent
Arouse.......massage oil description
Flame, burn......candles (Not sure which of the words is the trigger)
Bible....not sure if this is the word but I removed it and the item loaded......used in game description
Some of the words I get...others...uh NO!!
Anyone have a list of words Google won't allow in feeds? I looked for it on their site but so far, nothing.
Thanks in advance.
Back to sifting through the last errors!! 200 down, 60 more to go!!!:clap:

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Here are a few more words:
Sensual
Pagan.....not sure, it's in the description with Bible
Apostles.....not sure, it's in the description with Bible
Churches...not sure, it's in the description with Bible
Seductive.....referring to food not humans...like chocolate
Is there an addon for removing or highlighting questionable words/wording? It sure would be better than having to go through each listing manually, especially when you have thousands of products to list.
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
More words...these are a given since they only allow these in the adult store option:
Kama Sutra....massage oils
Tantric....massage oils
Too bad they don't allow you to upload different categories to different options. Some could be adult based others family.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hi everyone,
This new feature of Google banning feeds due to keywords and not providing a list of keywords is a problem.
So, how should we remedy this? Would you like a configuration field created where you can specify the keywords? Should the module then remove the keyword when it create the feed or skip the product? It seems if the keywords are banned, they probably do not want the products either...
Keep in mind any such feature will add additional server load and may cause larger stores to time out. Before we implement anything, please let us know the size of your store and what the best solution would be for you.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Just this week I began getting product rejection notices for Google on the products I've been submitting for close to four years. Actually it's only on six of my 400+ products. It seems that Google has added a 'profanity' filter and some of my products are being flagged as inappropriate. I took a look and the products contain the three letter 'A' word (I don't want to offend anyone here but am writing this for clarification).
Will the current version of the add-on support filtering out these products based on profanity? I'd like to keep the products on the site but not submit those products to google products.
I'm running a pretty old version of google base feeder but it's worked so reliably that I haven't upgraded in a while.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I know I might be a little out of line here but I'm getting ready to install this feeder and have a few questions.
Is a dedicated IP really needed for it to run? I read that some place and want to know.
There are numerous SQL updates (18) shown do I need to just load the last one after I install (version 1.8.1)? (2.Install current version update_#_#_#.sql by copying and pasting (do not upload);)
The instructions say "3.Go to Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patches and install googlefroogle.sql by copying and pasting (do not upload);" and I can't even find that file.
Just so I understand I need to take these SQL files, open them some how, and then copy and paste the commands in the window in ZC rather than uploads?
Please help if you can.... I'm computer savvy just a little confused. :blink:

You can find lists of bad adsence words and looking at the list, more then likely is what's being blocked. Perhaps a pre scan using a text file list returning a product ID. Let the user check the product before doing the feed creation.
I've only had one product get rejected out of 5000 so far.
One of the bad word lists....
urbanoalvarez(dot)es/blog/2008/04/04/bad-words-list/
I can see why google is doing this, lots of complaints with adsence ads.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I did a little research and it is related to 'family safe' option. Unfortunately, I'd really like to keep my items in the 'safe search' part of google products as if I change to 'safe search', then I will only have my products show up if the user has changed their settings to allow for the 'safe search off' mode. I guess google just decided to check to make sure my products were in compliance.
It'd be really cool if this plugin would allow for setting the feed for either 'safe search' or not and then filtered any offensive words based on a list of words. I'd be happy just to know where I can look to try and add this check myself. I know enough php to hack it in but don't have a whole lot of time right now to dissect the code. Any help is appreciated. I'll share my hack if anyone else is interested.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
:censored:I have been with Google products from day one. I have had over a dozen feeds that were problem free for many years. Suddenly and without any notice they disapproved all product feeds. It took two weeks to get a response to my enquiry. They told me they had determined that I was a drop shipper and did not own my inventory. Where did they get that from? Amazon maybe. I sent them a video of my warehouse and some documents. After a few more weeks they sent me an email saying they had determined that I was not a drop shipper. I put the feeds up again. After a few days all but one were disapproved again. After a few weeks I got an email stating that I had duplicate products on multiple websites. Which was true but it was less than a dozen products spread across a few websites. Why disapprove them all? I fixed that and was able to get a few feeds approved. Today Google disapproved all the feeds except one stating I had invalid media and book identifiers. I have had to lay off 36 employees because of Google's shenanigans. It seems that when a feed is disapproved you loose page ranking. I was number one now I am on the third page. Amazon has taken over my original position. Is this some sort of collusion between Google and Amazon? Just in time to knock out the competition before the Christmas season begins. What ever happened to the notion of communication? Why can't Google send an email stating the problem and giving a few weeks to comply? Is there an alternative to Google products? Are other people having the same problem? Is there a better way to communicate with Google other than the email form provided online?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hi, I have seen the question asked several times before on this thread, but cant seem to find an answer.
I am using zencart Zen Cart v1.3.8a/v1.3.8
Im not sure how to find which version of googlebase feeder is installed.
I have the option to sellect "New" in the configuration, and have done so, but google rejects the feed saying there is no condition attribute.
Any help much appriciated.

Google Base Feeder and CEON URL Mapping
I've installed google base feeder, latest version. It is working flawlessly so far in that the uploaded xml file to google was accepted and everything looked perfectly fine.
I also have CEON URL Mapper, latest version which is a great module as well I might add.
Anyone know how to make base feeder work with CEON url mapping so the urls mapped into the feed are the seo friendly urls? Have searched this thread and don't really see an answer.

Well while im sure there is a way to do this...that would throw you into a secondary issue of not having product desc and they would prob disallow those as well.
but on a different note, I have been looking around and havent seen anyone mention it yet to be worked on but is there any idea on if this is going to include their new mandatory desc for books/media?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Has anyone had success with the googlebase isbn/upc feature?
I activated the upc/isbn feature. The isbn number uploads in the feed but in my google merchant account, in the feed errors, google recognizes it as an invalid upc number.
My feed shows the isbn number in the correct field
<g:isbn>0517093103</g:isbn>
This was a few months ago and I had asked about it on the google boards and never got a resolution.
I'd love to hear about the experience others have had with it.

Are you using product book type? If yes, how did you get zencart to show isbn for google feed? You activated isbn/upc feature? Do you mean in google?
Thanks, Kim

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I have googlebase 1.8.2 installed along with the mod, numinix product fields.
In admin configuration > googlebase feed configuration - I have
UPC/ISBN
If using Numinix Product Fields, include UPC/ISBN? - this is set to true
and
Numinix Product Fields
Activate Numinix Product Fields (requires separate add-on)? - this is set to true
I do not use, product book type.
Numinix says, Numinix product fields is all that is needed.
When I go to my google merchant account and check my Feed status summary it shows
Item Warnings - 11 items with warnings 11 items affected
11
Invalid UPC value (11 warnings)
Please make sure the value is a valid UPC value.
Learn more.
Examples: Examples:
Item Nr. Line Nr. Value
89 1,515 0801967295
136 2,315 0345303075
163 2,777 0619059206
170 2,897 0448089068
174 2,968 0517093103
So for example the first item 89
Item Nr. Line Nr. Value
89 1,515 0801967295
When I open my xml file and find the value that google says is a upc number - 0801967295, it shows
<g:isbn>0801967295</g:isbn>
I don't use UPC numbers at all. My xml file doesn't have any upc fields in it, only isbn.
oh, and my zen cart is version 1.3.9d

OK, how or what did you install that made it ask to set those fields?
Are you saying that when you installed the Numinix Product Fields addon and it automatically asked in googlebase if you wanted to ativate that option?
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Or....maybe I have an older version of the googlebase feed module and I need to update it to ask for those items?
And I guess my next question would then be...If I update my googlebase module, is there any modifications that have been done that I will need to be concerned of?
I guess other than the zencart updates, I havent updated any of the modules I currently use. Is this an easy process to update?
OK....i just looked and Im using version 1.7.1a? theres like 5 updates since I installed this. When I update would i then do all of them or just the most recent?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
fusionsp
I have googlebase 1.8.2 installed along with the mod, numinix product fields.
The 'upc/isbn' and 'Numinix Product Fields' configuration options are a part of the googlebase 1.8.2 installation.
The settings are found in
configuration > googlebase feed configuration
If one is going to use upc or isnb numbers in their feed then both these fields need to be set to true. In addition these two fields rely on 'numinix product fields' mod to work.
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
thanks, I was wondering about that. Currently Im waiting to hear from my distributers to get that information. As they have around 10k products and they never used that data, so their trying to update their own info.
but as far as updating....which .sql file/files would I use then to update my installation?
Thats not clearly notated in the install information.
Secondly, would updating my datafeed/install require anything other than what they listed which was just overwriting all files? I obviously assume I would need to redo my feed and reprocess it with google. But is there anything else need done to make it all work? Its all working fine now other than missing those fields, and Im really not looking to break anything, LOL

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
well as far as touching any modifications: the googlebase mod file names all begin with google so the mod files shouldn't touch any modifications of the cart itself.
Of course look at all the file names and use your own judgement.
Regarding the sql updates. If ever there is an uninstall sql, that is what I always go with. I uninstall and then install the newest sql.
The googlebase mod versions on my pc all have an uninstall file so check the files for the version you are using to see if you have an uninstall.sql.
And again use your own best judgement and always make a backup of your database and your store before you do anything.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Has anyone else got an email from Goggle about the changes made to include the shipping charges?
"An alternate way to submit shipping information is to include item-level values for the new shipping attribute in your data feed.
These values will override any account-level default values that you have set for that item.
More information on formatting the revised SHIPPING attribute, please visit http://www.google.com/support/merchants/bin/answer.py?answer=160085&hl=en_GB#shipping"

no i havent, but it seems google doesnt always send out everything to everyone. Ive seen ppl say they get all kinds of things and i have never seen them.
As far as shipping charges, that would be a hard item to include for most companies. Myself, I only use UPS and only offer ground, but for a company that offers multiple forms of shipping and different options I dont see how they could do any form of default values for shipping.
I guess that is until Google has ppl create user profiles with "their" favorite form of shipping. lol

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I just had the following email from Froogle:
Hello,
Thank you for participating in Google Product Search. We are reaching out to you to inform you of updates to the Tax & Shipping settings tab located under "Settings" in your Google Merchant Center account. On this tab you will be able to set shipping values for your items on Google Product Search. We will soon be displaying this information on Google Product Search to provide buyers with important price information. This email provides an overview of the submission process in order to help you provide this data.
==================================================
HOW TO SET SHIPPING VALUES IN YOUR GOOGLE MERCHANT CENTER ACCOUNT
You have two options to set SHIPPING for your products:
1. Specify a flat shipping rate (or free shipping).
2. Define custom tables if the shipping rate you charge varies by price, weight, or number of items. Note: If you define a table based on the number of items, for now, we will use the rate in the first row only.
If you use the weight-based table option, please be sure to include the SHIPPING_WEIGHT attribute. More information on formatting the SHIPPING_WEIGHT attribute can be found here: http://www.google.com/support/mercha...pping%20weight
==================================================
HOW TO SET SHIPPING VALUES VIA DATA FEEDS OR GOOGLE BASE API
An alternate way to submit shipping information is to include item-level values for the new shipping attribute in your data feed.
These values will override any account-level default values that you have set for that item.
More information on formatting the revised SHIPPING attribute, please visit http://www.google.com/support/mercha...en_GB#shipping
For more information on shipping, please visit our Help Center at
http://www.google.com/support/mercha...&answer=160162
Sincerely,
The Google Product Search Team
Does this mean there needs to be some coding changed in the core files of this mod in order to output shipping tables to the xml data feed?
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
hmm, well luckily for myself we only use one option. I set the default shipping method to that and have not had to change it.
Have you already set that option in the merchant center to what you already use?
if so, you wouldnt have to worry about code as its already entered on their end. that may be the easiest way to handle the question anyway. Im just not sure what would change if you entered more than one. I know it asks for a default, it will probably just display that no matter what you enter there...

Re: Google Base Feeder - crashed admin area
hello, I successfully got my host to add this cron job to my site. Right now it is uploading the feed every day (do you think this is too often?)
The problem I see now is that I have a list of googlefroogle.php?feed=fy_uy_tp.## files in my root directory. It seems that every time it uploads it is creating a new file. Does anyone know how to avoid this?

well, I see that you have your host to do this job. I have google fetching it for me on their scheduling area. I found this easier as I had issues attempting to have my host do it.
And..I have mine updating every day as well. My wife will go through and update our website products every few day swith on hands, active products, etc. I found it easier to just do it every day instead of having to do it every single time we update so it minimizes the 404 errors.
I also just have a cron job setting up my google feed to run and create the feed daily. then its made sure its accurate. Then when google fetch the file, their just pulling that file.
It sounds llike your host is renaming the file every time. and not to overwrite the file. So....changing it to do it like i have may correct your issues.

fusion - thanks for the reply. I had already set up Google to retrieve my data feed through the Google Merchant Center, but it didn't seem to be working, so that's why I went this route. Maybe I should figure out how to make that work and cancel the cron job setup through the host.
The URL I had listed was: "http://www.iscatech.com/googlefroogle.php?feed=fy_un_tp" is that right?

well i guess it depends...is that the URL you had listed for google to fetch your products or was it for your host?
you have to also add a command for your host. Remember in the directions..
To run it as a cron job (i.e. at 5:00am), put something in your crontab like the
following:
0 5 * * * GET http://your_http_catalog/googlefroog...?feed=fy_uy_tp
or
0 5 * * * wget http://your_http_catalog/googlefroog...?feed=fy_uy_td
or
0 5 * * * curl -s http://your_http_catalog/googlefroog...?feed=fy_uy_tn
You have to add the GET or something similar to tell your host what to do with the job.
If you were trying to have google do it then thats also wrong with google you just direct it to the file location. Do not include anything else.
ie; http://www.fusionspiritualemporium.com/feed/YOUR FEED NAME_products.xml
Hope this helps.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Now Im having a new issue. I finally was able to have the time to update my module and now its not creating any records?
Google Base File Complete In 2.742825 Seconds 0 Records
I uploaded and overwrote the files, installed the current patch, and set all the configurations back. It was working fine before, ONLY reason I messed with it is to include the UPC/ISBN data.
Is there something in the files I also need to set now?
alright, I figured out my first issue..lol, I dont have qty on my site and I missed that setting. But now its skipping a few products due to the desc field less than 15 char and it has a product ID of which one it skipped. So, is there a way to search by product ID and figure out which ones have the issue??

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
OK nevermind. I remembered I needed to download my database file to look through it. It would be really nice if Zencart had that option built in to search by the product it that it assigns and not just by model. Seems like a lot of modules and other things use that ID number and its odd that you cant look it up by that..oh well

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Every time I run the Google Base Feeder, I get an error log in my cache folder that says "PHP Warning: ereg_replace(): REG_EBRACK in ../includes/classes/google_base.php on line 214."
Why am I getting this error?
Here is line 214 in google_base.php
PHP Code:
$products_image_base = ereg_replace($products_image_extention, '', $products_image);
I'm using Zencart v1.3.9g

Is it better to have it that way then compared to this way?
PHP Code:
$products_image_base = preg_replace('/'.$products_image_extension . '$/', '', $products_image);
This how the module image handler 2 has it. If so, should I change it to that for the image handler 2?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
What ever works..... or... does it!
str_replace is just a simple search replace, where as preg_replace, does more complex search and replace... or for better info.... check out http://us2.php.net/manual/en/function.str-replace.php
Keep it simple.... makes for faster code...

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
ZC v1.3.8a
New to GBF and it's working fine for me but I have one question about the ftp upload.
When I log into uploads.google.com with my ftp client, shouldn't I see the domain_products.xml file that was created by and successfully uploaded using GBF?
Since I didn't see it, after a couple of ftp upload attempts and no product data showing, I decided to manually upload it via Merchant Center.

It is better to manually upload it via Merchant Center or You can let Google automatically get it for you. You can set it up from the Merchant Center for Google to retrieve it.

I have a question. Every time I create a feed which by the way does just perfect I get and errors in my error log. I'm pretty good in fixing them but I just can't think today for some reason.
Here is the error i'm getting.

Here is the error i'm getting.
Basically, there suppose to be a folder numinix_version with a text file in it google_base_feeder.txt
the text file is nothing more then the version of Google base feeder... Check to see if its there and can be found by the program... I didn't feel like having another folder just to hold versions in, so I commented it out...
Code:
function google_base_version() {
//$file = DIR_FS_CATALOG . 'numinix_version/google_base_feeder.txt';
//$handle = fopen($file, 'r');
$version = "1.7.4.9g"; //fread($handle, filesize($file));
//fclose($handle);
return trim($version);
}
I've modified so much of it I can't just do a simple upgrade anymore... plus this way I can keep track when I upgrade it to meet a new cart upgrade... (9g) Could just update the text file too....

Yep... Zero quantity is bypassed unless you turn it off in the settings in admin. Google well more then likely reject 0 quantity feeds....

I tried recreating the error.... no luck. Line 15 is writing the output to file.... you could echo $output to see what it looks like. The Missing argument 3 could be the offer ID.... have to look to at the xml to see what's missing..

Here's the xml file if you like to see it. Let me when you download it so I can delete it. Thanks for the help.
If you would give me example where to put the echo.

OK... got the file... will look it over when I get back in from work...
includes\classes\google_base.php
Code:
function google_base_fwrite($output='', $mode, $type) {
$output = implode("\n", $output);
if(strtolower(CHARSET) != 'utf-8') {
$output = utf8_encode($output);
//echo $output;
} else {
$output = $output;
//echo $output;
}
un-comment the echo and when you click the create button, the popup box well show what is written to the xml file... set the amount of products to just 20 or less before you do it. Just enough to see what's going on.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Where do I find the xml file?
Also I am using SEO URL's and not magic SEO URL's does this create a problem?
Thanks

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Oh sorry for the confusion I got it working but it is always "login failed" "upload failed".
I am on shared server and shared IP address.
Do I need to do it manually then?
If so how.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Thanks for the Add On.
A customer wanted to add MPNs that were different from their Model Number, and I had alread installed the Product Fields mod so I duplicated the SKU folder from optional fields, changed all instances of "sku" or "SKU" to "mpn" or "MPN"
and then in googlefroogle.php changed this:
PHP Code:
if ($products->fields['products_model'] != '') {
$content["mpn"] = '<g:mpn>' . $google_base->google_base_sanita($products->fields['products_model'], true) . '</g:mpn>';
to this:
PHP Code:
if ($products->fields['products_mpn'] != '') {
$content["mpn"] = '<g:mpn>' . $google_base->google_base_sanita($products->fields['products_mpn'], true) . '</g:mpn>';
and added "p.products_mpn," right after "p.products_model" in a couple of places.
I'm sure this concept can be used for other fields as well.
Hope this is helpful to someone. :clap:
On a side note:
Before I did this, actually when I first installed the mod, I was getting an error about a missing column, p.products_category, so in line 126 I changed
PHP Code:
$additional_attributes .= ", p.products_condition, p.products_category";
to
PHP Code:
$additional_attributes .= ", p.products_condition";
Got rid of the error.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
hi there, been using google feeder for a month or so now, but gone back to checkup again etc....
and it says dissaproved
i click the "dissaproved" link to show why, and no errors load...
im thinking it may be due to the file size of my domain_products.xml
which is almost 14mb....
is there a way to set googlebase to split the file into several once it hits a certain filesize?
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
without manually changing settings 4 or 5 times to create seperate files?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
GB is working great except it's showing the "Item#" in the description.
Quote:
Swirls of 14kt White Gold surround our Diamond Heart. Just like the security you feel from the significant other in your life. Item # SLJ-AG0M9A ...
That Item# is actually entered in ZC as the Model#.
The only option in GB that is on, and could be doing this, is the Show Option ID, which is set to ID.
If I turn that off, will it stop generating the Model# and, if I stop generating a Model#, could that cause my feed to be rejected by Google?
In case it's relevant, I do not have Numinix product fields installed.
Thank you,
Stephen
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I figured it out. I have Tabbed Products Pro I use its create a tab code within the main description to create a Specifications tab.
I just need to make sure my main description is long enough to keep Item# from being included.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Ive just installed the google base (froogle) feeder module but all my products are priced by attributes so google are not allowing the feed as all the price fields are 0.00 as they are all priced by attributes.
Can anyone advise me how i get the module to work with price by attributes?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I have spent hours searching for installation intructions for this numinix google base feeder. I cannot get past step one of the official installation intructions. Here is step
1. :censored: # Unzip and upload all files to your store directory (except .sql files);
WHICH DIRECTORY????????
Individually or the whole thing?
Just the files? Or do they mean upload the folders and the files go along for the ride?
Overwrite existing files or how else can this be done?
I have been thinking about this for a long time i would like you all to know but i am not a techy.
Option 1. Do i upload the entire (google_base_feeder) folder in the zip file to the zen cart catalog folder on my server?
Option 2. OR do i take the contents of that folder and upload them to the folders that have the same names as the folders on my server? For example take the google base feeder folder called admin and upload it into the folder in my zen cart install called admin?
Option 3. OR take the files out of the google base feeder admin folder and upload them in my zencart admin folder?
I am very afraid of option 3 as it would overwrite the files because many of the files and folders on my zencart instal have the same names as the google base feeder files.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I have just been looking to install this myself, and to answer the previous poster, simply extract the folders overwriting your folders, all that will happen is the files in this installation will be created in their own folders.
However there is a problem the documentation states
Go to Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patches and install googlefroogle.sql by copying and pasting (do not upload);
however there is NO googlefroogle.sql in the archive!!!!!
Just a series of sql updates of which there is no mention in the documentation either :(
Nor does it tell you in the documentation where to place the googlefroogle.php file!

in the version prier to 1.8 it was googlefroogle.sql, in his latest version its install.sql
If your referring to the googlefroogle.php outside the folders, admin, includes, then it should go to the root of your site.

Why not update the documentation.html file to say "install.sql" instead of googlefroogle.sql. I always try to RTFM and follow it precisely :smile:

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I've got a problem with shipping.
If I set it to use table rate it works fine, but unfortunately this is set up with the postage costs for European shipping while I want it to list GB shipping.
I have zones set up with the shipping for GB but if I select zones in the google base feeder it sets all delivery costs to 0?

I know this is a long shot but what the :censored:.
I've got Tabbed Products Pro installed on my website which causes the description on my Google Products to display in an extremely funky manner.
I've noticed that Google is picking up more than 80 characters so I was hoping that someone would be able to help me limit the characters downloaded to the description portion of the XML file or even (better yet) think of a more efficient way around my issue (besides changing the description in the file before it's uploaded of course).
Thanks in advance!
I'm having a similar problem (searched this thread, but didn't see a solution) and now Google has started kicking out all of my products which have a 'Size Chart' tab because the descriptions are too long and contain HTML.
I know I could remove it and create a popup window or a separate page for all my size charts instead, but I really think it's much more buyer friendly if they can see ALL of the information in one window without having to navigate elsewhere.
Is there a way to limit the number of characters the feed pulls from the description?
Thanks!

Ok, maybe I am just being blind, stupid, or both but when I try to run this I do not see any instructions and all I get at the top of the page is:
Google Merchant Center Feeder
Feed Type: Products
SQL Query Limit ##########___
SQL Query Offset ##########__
I have tried to play around with the SQL Query things by placing random numbers in it or leaving it blank.
All this mod does so far when I click the confirm button is open a new window that stays blank and that is it, doesnt create anything.

Make sure in /web-site-root/includes/.htacess that line 26 has the xsl|XSL included. If that does not work go to admin/configurations/google_base_feeder/configuration and turn on the debug to see what that tells you.
on line 26 you will find:
<FilesMatch ".*\.(js|JS|css|CSS|jpg|JPG|gif|GIF|png|PNG|swf|SWF)$">
Change the line to:
<FilesMatch ".*\.(js|JS|css|CSS|jpg|JPG|gif|GIF|png|PNG|swf|SWF|xsl|XSL)$">

Problem and solution
Recently google started limiting number of characters for product descriptions:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/...3b147064&hl=en
I started getting these messages few weeks ago about some of my products and they were not getting listed:
"Error: Offer too big - Error
Your feed contains offers which are too big. These offers will be dropped."
I searched the forums and could not find a solution, so tried digging into it myself. I'm not sure what google's limit is, but I trimmed the description to 500 characters and it seemed to have worked. Here's what I did:
file googlefroogle.php (in the root directory):
added code to line #191 (version 1.8.2):
new code:
PHP Code:
if (strlen($products_description) > 500 ) {
$products_description = substr($products_description, 0, 500);
}
$products_description = $google_base->google_base_xml_sanitizer($products_description, true);
old code:
PHP Code:
$products_description = $google_base->google_base_xml_sanitizer($products_description, true);

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hi there
We have google base feeder working on our site, but I am currently adding products using the music product type. Our existing products are all the of the 'general' type. When I generate the feed however, any music products are not included... From what I can find on the forums, it seems like you can only have one product type in the feed - is this correct? Or have I missed something else?
This is really important for us, as we need to utilise the music products to give extra functionality to our products (wallpaper). Is there any way of having all products included in the feed?
Category using music product types: http://www.davieswallpapers.com/desi...ath=1_7_12_649

We are using Zen version: 1.3.8a
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I think I've sorted this out - was looking for something far more complicated than was actually there!! I've now done a feed with all the products included:-)
Thanks anyway.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
If, like me, you are php blind, for $25 they will do it for you - solved all my issues and was money well spent (no, I didn't get a discount for saying this - forgot to ask :-))
Seriously, they did a great job, very quickly and saved me much more than $25 of my time fiddling around with it; fplus irst Google merchant generated order within 24 hrs of the install made me over $50

I am having a problem with my Xml feed; the base feeder report on making the xml reflects that all products are valid, I have checked for the funny A and corrected them, plus for & etc.
I load the a file to Google of about 4,000 products and they consistently reflect about 50 products but indicate that the file is good.
I ran a validation report of the first 500 products to-day:
the text on the screen from the file looks like a foreign language and I get the following feedback:
XML parsing error: <unknown>:1:0: not well-formed (invalid token) [
Please can any-one help me - even IM me and correct this professionaly for me?
Best wishes for a Merry Christmas to all Zenners and your families where-ever you may be

I looked at the xml file and it started creating the file but never finished.. Any ideas of what might be going on.. Thanks for all your input..

Using ZenCart v1.3.9f
For some reason only the Google Base Feeder Configuration will show up after installation, I can not get the Google Base Feeder to show up under Tools. Anyone have an idea of what could be causing this.
I uninstalled the SQLpatch and Reinstalled, I re-uploaded the google_base_feeder files, the feed directory is 777, I also went ahead and tried making the whole google_base_feeder directory 777 as well.
I have installed this on another store that is similar and it works perfect.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I've been using this mod for a long time and it's fantastic. However, I could use some help with something now.
I've started to create custom products for individual customers and I keep them hidden inside a hidden catgory (hidden in the sense it's switched off with a red box). Now, the products inside this category are active and can be viewed with the relevant URL. The products contain some personal info (like peoples names) and they're tailoerd products, customer specific. I have no desire for them to be published to Google Products.
So, every time I have to generate a product feed, I need to deactivate every one of these custom products manually, so they don't end up on Google Base. Then re-activate them when I'm done. Surely there's a way to tell this mod to ignore certain categories and the products within?
Can anyone offer advice here?

In the GBF admin, it's under 'Excluded Categories' - enter the category number of the ones you don't want it to create for. Works like a charm.
Now if only I could get a mod to substitute our custom category names for google approved category's... :shocking:

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Yikes, how come I never even noticed that before!! Thanks Fez-o Joe.
Last question on the matter, if I have a category URL like main_page=index&cPath=1_350 Do I just enter 350 or do I enter 1_350 ?

It's the Category ID - when you're looking under your Catalog/Products, it'd be the number next to the folder - not the actual product number.
So if you have it as 1_350_250 (item number is 250) - then yes, just the 1_350 - as far as I know.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Yes, thank you. I did a few trial runs and all you have to enter is the single integer category ID. Im my case 350
If only it was this easy to make the same adjustment to the XML sitemap mod :)

Feed not showing change in tax rate
Hi there,
Price-wise things were fine before I changed the sole tax rate I use (UK VAT) from 17.5% to the new 20% rate. All the products were updated fine in Zen Cart but the feed is still showing the old (inclusive) prices.
I find this a bit strange - any ideas on how to fix (before Google ban me for an incorrect feed!)?
Also, on a separate issue - I could never get the expiration date to be 30 days ahead so I gave up on automatic upload. I've been changing them myself with search&replace before manually uploading. For some reason the feed now stays at 2010/12/01
My relevant settings are: 30 for expiration date adjust and 'now' for expiration date base.
Is this correct?
Thanks ever so for any help offered.
Nick

Check and make sure you have renamed the admin folder to match the custom folder you are using, if not it will not find the folder.
