IS there somewhere I can read up on the purpose and real world benefits of URI mapping, and what it will do for people like me? The " URI Mapping for Dummies version" would be best.

Can anyone help me out. I have had CEON Url installed on my site and it was working perfectly. For some reason, I get a 505 server error now, and when I remove the htaccess codes the site is back up. However none of the links are working that have the URl linking that was previously set up, due to the htaccess codes being removed.
I guess the main problem is why am I suddenly receiving a 505 server error with the htaccess codes, when I never had this problem before.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
I have located the error. There was some mis coding on the htaccess file. Now I just need to find out how someone had access to change up the coding. Thanks everyone.
Hi,
No, no problem.. I just didn't want to repost something and I do think I should make it a FAQ to make it easier for people.. searching a thread can be a bit of a pain sometimes, especially when it's as long as this one.
All the best..

Hi,
The module was primarily written so that stores could be in control of their own URIs, so you could set up easy to remember and type addresses for customers, which can be used on advertising flyers etc. (e.g. yoursite.com/april-specials)
The fact that it uses real language in the URI instead of product IDs and other technical codes means that keywords can be part of the URI, which is where the SEO benefits come in.
As I said, the primary purpose was not SEO but a side effect of the way the module works is that it does indeed improve rankings. Many people have written to me to say their rankings jumped after installing the module and creating mappings while sites they didn't have the software installed on remained the same. So that's a nice side effect. Of course the strength of that side effect will differ for everyone and depend upon the words used in URIs, how appropriate they are for the page's content (the main focus of any SEO obviously).
All the best..

Regarding this post
I am just testing a build for 1.3.9h before migrating some sites.
The url is http://www.klasicke-kristalove-lustry.cz/
Unfortunately when you login from the home page then it returns a 404 error!!. This does not happen when I turn off the CEON url rewrite!!
I have found that CEON doe snot opertate with shared SSL!!
The solution was to get a dedicated IP address for the site and purchase a SSL cert
Hi,
Yes, that's exactly what my previous post(s) say.. a site with static URIs cannot use a shared SSL certificate as that changes the URIs, breaking them.
All the best...

Ick. That leaves me out too.
For my knowledge base, what happen if use same URI name for multi products (because same type)?
Thanks!
Been discussed to death in this thread.. Short answer: it's a NO NO..
Make all your URIs for each product UNIQUE.. This module allows you PLENTY of flexibility to do this.. You can either make your product names unique so that auto-generate will create unique URI's or you can manually create URIs so that each product has it's own unique URI..
You might also consider creating a test store so you can see for yourself how the module behaves and apply what you learn to your live store..
